basically what you are looking for is something that has touchwiz, samsung's version of htcs's sense. i have not found anything that has touchwiz included. right now most devs are working on ics or jb for the evo.

Just to put my opinion in, I don't see why anyone would even want sense or touch wiz when as a rooted user you can find roms that has either one removed going bareback, also not as much memory being used too 
But that's just me as well.

yeah i agree. touchwiz can be just as space and resource consuming as sense. pure android is the way to go really.

On xda look for team dirts remics rom. It has a touchwiz ui based off the s3. It's an ics rom so no wimax and ffc.

So does this mean an AOSP ROM would be 'pure Android'?

Yeah. Although often custom roms come pre-installed with a custom launcher like nova, trebuchet or the other ICS one(?), which are based off the stock launcher.
so if i went from MikG 3.11 to an AOSP ROM, what, if any would the differences be? When I think of what AOSP stands for I wonder if that mean I will have an open-ended ROM that will constantly be changing or updating, kind of like a work-in-progress. A few of the AOSP's look appealing to me but I dont know want to end up with something that I have to constantly maintain.

Kinda....as far as AOSP, it doesn't mean constantly updating or changing, so no need to worry there. I run Decks Reloaded, an AOSP rom and coming from MikG, yes it is faster, smaller and I enjoy it more myself. Do I have to "maintain? it? No, as in, updating it constantly, no....I also like the fact it has, and can use, the Mason kernel which is awesome imo...
