Help Any problems with the new update?

Called Sprint they said HTC... quote "HTC got contract with Blockbuster and that's why you have BB app in their update and is not possible to remove it"

...And then they wonder why everyone wants to Root!
I like how they sucker punched us with Nova.
"...Hey, Here's a small game that doesn't take up any space...oh wait--now you get to forcibly download an 80mb file to make this cheap Halo knockoff work! Surprise!..."

*********** streaming audio fix*************
you need your phones MSL pin prior to attempting this!!

Apparently the update changed the settings below to something that disrupts streamin. Whether it is because Sprint wants to redirect this traffic* to a* proxy server or someone just goofed on the settings, who knows.* But I checked the settings against a Moment and the Moment has different* settings.

Here's the fix:

1) Dial ##3282#
2) Choose Edit Mode
3) Enter MSL
4) Choose Advanced
5) Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
6) Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0

Successfully tested on both 3G and 4G with NPR News app, streamfurious (which* consistently errored out within seconds of starting before this change).

**This change STICKS as well after your phone has been cycled off and back on** Enjoy

Great find!

Now - for those missing their MSL - if you get a chance and are willing, would you kindly check out if this app will do the same thing?

Can not use my top contacts in my phone, or change my weather channel top day settings. Pretty much anything at the top of the screen. Anyone else having this problem?

Almost a week after the update and my phone now wants to be in Argentina. I have corrected it but an hour later it thinks it is in Argentina's time zone again. Called Sprint and it is a known issue with no true known fix. I saw one similar post on this, anyone else having this issue?

This is the sort of thing that pisses me off to no end.

Grab a pitch fork and a torch, and meet me by the Jenkins farm.

My battery life has crashed. Just went from 60 to 40% in 30 min sitting on my desk doing nothing. Hope we can figure out a way to fix this...

Then don't load it (or erase it afterwards)- problem solved!

(The problem I've been having with the update? Hearing folks moan endlessly about "bloatware" (many of them Swype beta users- whom, ironically enough come out ahead because the installed Swype is far smaller than the combined keyboard/installer of the Beta))

It just so happens that the update fixes my 4G and makes it usable. I'll put up with bloatware in order to have working 4G, but I shouldn't have to. I didn't launch Nova's download of the 80MB game file yet, and will not do so. The Nova and Blockbuster apps piss me off greatly, but NOT having 4G pissed me off WAY MORE.

I don't mind the Swype at all, but for me, simply NOT installing the update is not an option. 4G is one of the main reasons I went with Sprint. To not have 4G working was a slap in the face. I am more-or-less content now...but will continue to bitch and moan about the bloatware. I shouldn't have to get apps crammed down my throat.

I will never use the folowing apps out of spite:

Amazon MP3
Sprint Nav
Sprint NASCAR
Sprint Football
SprintTV
Sprint Zone
Nova
Blockbuster

I may even consider rooting once 3.7's crack is less "green"

I just did several software upgrades over the last 12 hours or so. Last one brought me to 2.2 (firmware) and 3.70.651.1 (software). (This is a work phone and for various reasons we had to wait to install any Froyo update.)

Now that I'm all updated I have no android market. If at all possible I'd like to avoid a factory reset, mostly because it's a pain in the butt. Is there any other way?

Note: this is the only thing I've run across so far that seems wonky. I did have the Swype beta and uninstalled it as my first Froyo was installing. After another two updates (of the software perhaps...not sure) Swype is working. The market has been gone since the first update in the series. One colleague says to factory reset. Others have not had this problem.

Help!

any suggestions, my evo is burning my leg while in my pocket it is getting so hot. I have an extended battery that has been getting about 20 hours or so each day until i did the software update yesterday. I stopped google talk, i stopped Facebook for sense, i have taken off all widgets, and the thing just keeps heating up and that 20 hours or so of battery life has turned into about 4 - 7 hours the last day and a half.

Havent had any battery problems before the update yesterday, any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I assume you have rebooted...

Check out the battery usage to see if there's an obvious offender. Any Home Screen->Menu->Settings->About Phone->Battery.

Also, try switching the phone to Airplane Mode for an hour or so to see if the phone cools down.

HotPocket(TM) can be caused by several things, but it usually comes down to two things... if you are in a marginal service area, the phone will get very hot if it needs to search for service. The other is a runaway application (I have one that does this, I always have to kill it with a task killer, or hello HotPocket(TM) :) ).

There are more steps you can take, but these are the things I would try first.

Hope this helps,

jd

Welcome to the forums!

I presume you have the Market app, just no Market access.

That's not uncommon with wholesale updates and can even happen with a factory reset.

Usually, the Market will respond within a few hours to a day when this happens. Many have found that pulling the battery, leaving it out for a full minute and restarting alleviates this problem.

If you're going to do a factory reset, I'd suggest you not lose things by using MyBackup Pro or an equivalent - for 5 bucks vs. your time, I'd think your employer would be happy to pay for that.

Thanks EarlyMon!

I actually can't find the Market app anywhere -- so if I do have it it's hiding. (I didn't actively delete it, just something in the updates.) I did try removing the battery, but did not leave it out for any length of time so I'll try that. As well, I'm hoping that a few hours or a day and it will adjust itself. I'm glad to know that's a possibility!

Since we really only use one program (in addition to the actual phone) on these phones for business use (our email/calendar/etc. program) and the rest is personal, I doubt they would pay for a backup. (Good news and bad news about being able to use the phone for personal use!) In any case, if it will let me pay for it separate from our corporate Sprint bill then I'll look at the MyBackUp (or equiv.) options.

I'll see what tomorrow brings first. Thanks again and I'll update when I see what happens!

For whatever unknown reason, sometimes an upgrade or reset will drop widgets from your desktop.

Look in your drawer - up arrow, lower left - and let me know if your Market app is there.

At the same time you've been doing this, Google did a Market update - but I've never heard of the Market app completely disappearing before.

No, no market app in my drawer. I even tried changing "scenes" because I've "found" missing widgets and such that way before. No dice. Tried taking the battery out for a bit, again no dice. I'll see what happens tomorrow. It just seems like there should be some way to actually download the market app through google. At least, that would make sense! Everything else seems to be working just fine with the update -- at least I've not run across any other issues.

Nothing in the updates should have deleted the Market app - that's really whacked.

If this doesn't fix itself - you might be in for a factory reset.

Also - for reasons unknown to me - sometimes all of my apps don't show up in the drawer. However, they're there if I switch view to menu -> list while in the drawer. Try that.

Great tip -- I'd never realized I could change to a list view. Unfortunately, no market app.
