Root Any stable Roms?

Are there any stable ROMs out their for the DX? I've been stock rooted forever now and want to try something new. I've been browsing the forums for every ROM and I can't seem to find one that is stable, has every core feature working (camera, GPS, etc?) and that has decent battery life.

Any help with this?

i think the most stable roms you will find will be:

Liberty
Apex
Shuji
Vortex
CM7
MIUI
Liquid Gingerbread

just my personal opinion that is

I like CM7, which I'm running on GB 650. I have yet to find any hardware that doesn't work while using it. Also, and for me this was paramount, it FIXES the whole issue of calendar alarms not sounding, caused by something Motorola screwed up when they released GB for the DX. :)

I am currently running APEX day to day. I use my phone a good bit, sync 3 email accounts, twitter, facebook, take pics often and text. (Oh-- yeah-- a few phone calls too). I have used GPS in my car dock. No big issues with this ROM. I have used Liberty in the past as well, just not the latest. I get about 18 hours of battery on a normal use day.

Thanks for the input, but isn't the new liberty a battery killer? I want to get a full days worth of battery which I get easily on stock 605.

define battery killer to you? also it depends on your usage. I don't see a prob with battery life running it but that is me. Your opinion will vary from mine.

I would think liberty battery life would be better than the 2init roms, since stock has the best battery life and 1st init is closer to stock. I was on CM7 which had awesome features but bad battery life. Then I went to ICS MIUI which has better battery life but still not great. I tried installing liberty3 but the custom features and appearance were a huge step down from the 2init roms so I immediately switched back (otherwise I would be able to offer a direct comparison).

Hasn't been for me. However, I went to Liberty 3 from Sensei v3 .602 and after I installed Liberty 3 I did noticed a little more power drain with Liberty 3 than with Sensei. Then I realized that my screen was set to the max brightness and that was pulling my battery down some. But even at that I got 13 - 16 hours out of one charge.

I use the official extended battery from Verizon, which really doesn't add all that much. It did seem to me like the battery life was poor on CM7 with GB650 until I learned about, and used, a battery calibration app. I think, especially with my having switched to the extended battery, the calibration idea is sound. It corrects the DX from mis-reporting that the battery is low when it really isn't.

When I ran the calibration, and the DX started reporting only 10% battery left (you let it run down from fully charged until the phone dies before recharging it) the DX actually ran another 3 hours past the point where it first showed 10%, and that was with the screen on for much of that time.

Unless I use the DX quite a lot more than "normal" during the day, my extended battery rarely falls below 50% now, running CM7 and GB, between nightly charges. I run the screen at auto brightness.

I'm on CM7 GB - the customization is amazing but the battery life really stinks. I can drain my entire battery on like 4/5 hours of usage. It's ridiculous - and it's been getting worse, not better with time. I've been running it for about 3 weeks and it's starting to lag as well. I may actually go back to stock rooted until I figure out what phone I'm getting next. I can't take this battery drain and lag - makes me nuts!

1- How old is your battery?

2- Have you tried calibrating the battery?

Lag can be caused by different things. It might be something you have installed that is running in the background all the time. That can also drain a battery rapidly.

The battery is probably a year old? Not exactly sure. Yeah, I calibrated the battery.

I'm going to run stock rooted for a week or two and see if things improve. If they don't then clearly it's a battery issue. Otherwise, it's these ROMs not playing nice with the locked bootloader

I think I would try rebuilding from the nandroid you hopefully made right after you flashed CM7. If you have something hogging resources in the background, you might notice what it is as you reinstall all your apps.

Also, I suppose a 1 year old battery could be tanking if it was used and recharged heavily.

Could be - but it was a huge dropoff. I was getting like 15 hours w/normal use until I popped this ROM on - now I need a charger near me all the time. It's kind of ridiculous. Worst case, I will try the rooted stock, if that still stinks I'll pick up a new battery. I'm sure they are cheap enough now - this phone is all but extinct.

Hmm. I have to wonder if something is running in the background that you might not have intended, sucking the battery dry. I believe there are apps you can get which will show you the current amount of battery drain per application. Might be worth taking a look at that.

Truthfully there hasn't been a rom I was impressed with since Darkslide, even though it's on 596 I'm going to downgrade and reinstall it. I found the whole keyboard/radio updates made 0 difference for me, in fact my keyboard is slower.

I had that issue with one of the CM7 GB nightlies too, basically battery life was cut in half and going to a different nightly doubled it back to normal. If you don't want to give up on CM7 definitely try a different nightly.
