Any Time is Grillin Time

My two cousins are coming for some grilling time tonight, bringing their new girlsfriends for a first close encounter :) Sweet :) One is from stateside, from Chicago. It has been raining and thunderstorms all night long. I hope it will get better during the day.
Will marinate chicken chest pieces and use that for sateh sticks with onion, bell pepper and mushrooms. And burgers, I guess. Mixed vegs, Cajun seasoning, Thai basil (sweet), creamy cheese and gouda cheese in a flat dish on the grill. A salad of cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, pepper & salt, basil and lemon oil. Baguettes. Kartoffel salad. Oh, and my home made garlic sauce with cucumber :)

Kids here don't particularly like the sour taste of saurkraut. I've got this awesome recipe with spaghetti and bacon for the oven if y'all like..?

That is more my speed than sauerkraut. :) About the only way I like cabbage is egg rolls.

I'll get back on this recipe later then. Family is almost here now, and I need to check the measurements (I know them in Dutch, just by size of the packaging).

Today's Chuckle Bros.

I took the wife out for a steak dinner tonight... "anniversary obligatory evening out". I had a nice ribeye. It was tasty enough but definitely not tender. When I throw down 90 bucks for steak dinner for two, I want it to at least be equal or to exceed my own efforts. It was a fun night out but...

With the prices of steak at a restaurant they can afford to serve the very best of meat given the very best of attention.
I was going to smoke ribs today. My plans changed when I saw a window to go to the cabin. The wife and youngest daughter were going to fish while I mowed. Plans were to grill some brats down there before heading home. Then... it unexpectedly rained two inches in the night. It's way too wet to mow the few lawns I had left on my schedule this morning. I hope it will dry out enough to do that this afternoon. No ribs... no brats at the cabin... I'm bummed.
I might just grill out some chops tonight. That would improve my attitude. :)

I did some serious grilling down at the river this Labor Day holiday. Saturday night I grilled out boneless skinless chicken breasts and thighs. I brined them first and was very pleased with the results. I was feeding a crowd, around twenty. The grill was wall to wall chicken. I gave them a good grill and then foiled up the pieces in a deep aluminum pan with some bbq sauce and turned down the heat. They were done to perfection by the time my asparagus spears had steamed in butter. The ladies had some baked beans in a crock and somebody prepared a great cucumber tomato salad. It was a great meal.

Sunday was grandchildren day. We had three different families with grand kids. The river was down so they all went swimming. I cooked up burgers and dogs for the kids and their kids. We cooked up some corn on the cob and they finished off the leftover beans. They had watermelon and cantaloupe for desert. After they left I grilled up some steaks for the grandparents. Baked up some potatoes and the wife tossed a salad to round things off.

I'm a kid at heart,I'm good for 2 or 3 burgers,pleeeeezzzzeeee. :D

All kidding aside, there's nothin' like a good burger cooked on the grill, over wood preferably, chef's choice,I'm good w/anything except treated lumber.............. :thumbsupdroid:

No argument from me. My wife works four nights out of seven. I often grill up a couple of burgers for myself on the smoker. :) That wood taste on the burger is to die for. Toast up some buns.. grill some onions on a foil dish with butter. Good grief, I'm getting hungry. :)

I'm cooking a couple as we speak......................

It's like you have a family reunion every weekend. Pretty cool! Grilled up 6 pork steaks that I turned in to 10 pork steaks, because they were so thick. Also got to use the grill mat for the first time.

I BBQ with an authentic Japanese clay Kamado fueled with oak branches collected from my land. The clay oven uses a surprisingly small amount of wood. Lately I have been making shish-kabobs with lots of veggies and chicken or beef.

The clay oven is to the right of the spire:

That's interesting looking. If you have a chance, could you take some closer and more detailed pictures of your kamado? I, for one, would enjoy giving it a serious look.

The Kamodo was cracked when I received it and the internal parts were in pieces. Fortunately all the broken pieces were included so I reassembled them as you can see in the photo. I also obtained a stainless steel vent, gasket and refractory cement to patch the cracks. After that it worked great. It is a very versatile clay oven and bbq.
