Anyone buying one of those cheap android tablets?

I know Kmart has 7 inch netbook or notebook running android for $100 and a tablet. I also heard Toys r us, has a tablet 2.

I really wouldn't recommend them. The only one at the moment worth looking at for Android is the Galaxy Tab. In this case, you get what you pay for.

I Disagree.

Anyone actually going to buy that? I haven't heard of it until now. Specs are one thing... The other component is user experience. I wonder how good it is and why it would only be priced at $350.

Archos has been known to have quality hardware.

I just may pick one of these up... after xmas.

Is that Archos one using a capacitive screen? I've seen that most of the low-end tablets running android have those cheap ass resistive ones that eliminate multi-touch capabilities.

Yes they are all capacitive. The Archos 101 isn't low end by any means.
The lowest I've seen it for is $320

I assume that the user experience isn't as solid as the galaxy tab or iPad. The only way to tell is by someones review. Anyone know if a tech website has any mention of this tablet?

I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of a tablet but I want one ;)

I would pick up a $100 tablet for my kids but won't buy one that doesn't have Google's Android Market (no thanks on the pseudo android markets).

The Archos tablet looks pretty nice and the price tag is closer to my threshold.

i wounder if they will be a large development community for archos?

is it the full android market in usa?

May not be huge, but it sure was fast as had installable full market 2 days after first demo was in hands of archofans site owner...

cheap tablet 1st, ebay it when a good cdma tablet becomes available?

I wouldn't mind getting a cheapo for right now as long as it has all the things I want, i.e.,

capacitative screen
decent camera
bluetooth
wifi
g sensor
hdmi out
sd card / micro
usb
SWAPPABLE BATTERY
better than 800x400 screen
3g preferably 4g
GPS
HID or SPP bluetooth keyboard support (though wifi keyboard works well enough)

or at least a significant percentage of the above if a cheaper tablet.

I'd really like to go full geek and replace my EVO entirely with a 7 inch tablet.

My options are to guy el cheapo to have a second laptop so my wife & I are not in competition over this one, so it would need to have HDMI out and keyboard (via bluetooth or USB-anyone know if android supports that? or bluetooth via usb?) then sell that one on ebay once a full-featured CDMA 4G fast tablet becomes available (at a reasonable price, like sub-$300).

Of course performance is the crucial issue. I'm reasonably sure the first iterations of tablets will blow, so reviews and a measure of self control will be necessary...

Must...not...buy...bleeding...edge...technology...

Burned too many times...

OTOH, the EVO is performing splendidly, the first of the 4g phones...

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent performing cheapo tablet or a (relatively) expensive one with CDMA & 4G?

I purchased the Sylvania Cheapy at Toys R Us on black friday, it's for my 12 year old son. The wife and I figure that it'll be enough for him for now and it'll also show us how he can handle that kind of tech. He was really pining for a G-Tab or an Ipad. This should be a good starting place for him to learn android and all that stuff. i figure we can root and overclock it too ;)

Screw baseball, rooting and overclocking is how we should spend time with our kids. jk.

just got it last nite and I was downloading apps no problem .Now it says network error and won't let me download ANYTHING. I have it connected to my evo hotspot so there shouldn't be a network error at all, it's a good connect.. unless it's talking about something else... please help i would hate to send it back.:mad::mad:

If you are talking about downloading from Market then that error seems to come and go for some folks... sometimes after a reboot it's fine, other times it's just time that seems to heal it like a server you are routed to having issue for a bit...

I bought the Augen simply to see if I like the form factor and size. I really, really do.

If I didn't have an evo with a capacitive screen, I would be fine with it. In stock form it isn't as bad as I expected. If I were keeping it (probably getting the archos 70), I would root it and play with it. For $130...I still might keep it around for the kids.
