Anyone considering giving up Android for iPhone 4S?

Then go get your iPhone, what is the point here? You have all these people telling you they do not want to switch. You aren't going to convince anyone. I will enjoy my larger screen, my widgets, the friendly community, all the things I can do with my phone. Go buy your iPhone and enjoy it but you aren't going to convince anyone to switch.

Plus your video shows how much nicer the SGS2 screen is. The 3.5 inch screen doesn't cut it anymore. I rather have the real estate to view my websites then for it to come up faster.

Thats fine, I was just looking for discussion here. No need to get hostile because I posted proof of the new iPhone being faster than any Android phone out. The Galaxy is still a great phone and ICS should make them run faster whenever the carriers finally get around to updating their phones which will be well into next year sadly. Like I said, I want the new OS day one with a phone I paid good money for, I don't want to sit around running a year old OS on my new phone...

Here is a link to the tests on several benchmarks with the iPhone 4S coming out ahead of the Android phones as well as a browser test video. In fact, the only Android device that came close to matching the A5 chip in the 4S was the Galaxy Tab. You can look at the related videos from this one for more.

I saw some fast benchmarks for the iPhone 4S as well. It does seem to indicate that the iPhone 4S is significantly faster than other phones out at this time. I would be interested to see how the Nexus Prime performs.

This thread is a good discussion about the iPhone 4S which is big news even if you are a fan of other phones. There has been some healthy discussion about the tradeoffs of going with the iPhone 4S or Android phones.

As I said, there are more videos than this one you can check out on YouTube with similar results. Check my join date, I have been a member here for a year and a half, I didn't just come in here with this to be a troll. I am not an Android fanboy or so married to it I can't move to another platform. So I was just seeing what everyone else thought and if they planned to consider a switch.

You know, we have been talking a lot about the Iphone vs Android and I don't see any one promote any practical reasons for changing Android for Iphone. Why don't you give us a clue?

I really couldn't care less if anyone switches or not. I own no stock in Apple, so it's not like it effects me. I was just curious if others thought iPhone was finally worth a look now that it's seemed to have caught up to Android.

People are asking because for every reason they give you, you question it, making it appear you are dead set for the 4S and is looking for anyone who agrees.

Personally, no I wont switch. There is no point. Benchmarks are a moot point, especially browser benchmarks since iOS has no Flash, thus they'd always be faster unless you turn off Flash on the Android browser, then we can probably see. Then for real world usage, you'd see the difference there only in certain high end games which I'm not really a fan of.

My SGSL serves my needs perfectly well, whats the need to spend twice the amount to get an iPhone? Unless you show me a practical reason to, I'd think getting an iPhone is just for show. "Oh I got an iPhone!"... Then what? At least I enjoy customizing the looks of my phone to levels which I cant do on an iPhone.

If everything you do with your handset is browser-based then those benchmarks show that the iPhone 4S may be faster. Otherwise they're meaningless.

Android Forums isn't real big on platform wars. They're devisive, turn casual visitors off and usually end in tears. Please keep to the topic when responding. Giving reasons for your decision one way or the other is fine. Attacking others for theirs is not.

I like my phone. I like the features it has. I like how I can customize anything. I dislike the iOS style launcher. I dislike how small the iPhone is (I have no problem with a bigger phone that houses a bigger screen). I couldn't care less about voice commands, as I disable them on my Android. I also dislike the way Apple just about sues everyone for copying them and then turns right around and copies the people they sue.

Besides, I don't mind that Apple has already sold over a million 4S's. I like being relatively unique.

Nah, not considering. Have my eyes on the Prime.

I like having a big display, a la my Droid X. Not sure I'd like going to a smaller iPhone screen.

Plus, my requirements for a new phone include (1) 4G and (2) NFC. Am I correct in that the iPhone 4s does not have NFC? On Verizon, would the 4s have LTE? Currently grandfathered in on unlimited data, and have a hefty monthly discount through work. No reason to leave.

I am just tired of getting screwed by carriers and Android phones. The Hero missed two Android updates because Sprint didn't feel like putting them out and then I had to buy the Evo 4G at full price ($550) just to get Froyo. Then I upgraded to the Nexus S 4G which was a total POS with wifi and signal issues that Samsung blamed on Google and Google blamed on Samsung and no one fixed. So I had to pay full retail price AGAIN to get a phone that actually worked, the Evo 3D. Now ICS is coming out and God only knows if or when Sprint will ever get around to updating the 3D with it. I am just tired of all the crap and spending literally thousands of dollars.

You just show all of the reasons why I let someone else buy a phone on the release day and wait to see if there will be any problems with it. Within a week or two of a release there is alot of feedback on the phone and how it performs.

This thread is akin to someone going to the Apple forums and starting a fight about a new Android phone, with all due respest.

Without a doubt Apple has been a game changer in the technology arena. I'm sure we wouldn't have alot of things we have now if it wasn't for them. Android is just another take on it. I like the freedom to choose what I want as you can also do by buying an Iphone on the release day. More power to you. Enjoy. My brother has an Iphone and my other siblings have Android's. We still all get along. Heck none of them no how to use their phone anyway.

A little reading here and I get to use stuff that was never intended for my phone. So I say thank you to Google for letting me have excitement and always feeling as if I just got a new phone. And of course I thank all of the Developers that keep coming up with new things.:D

I am not interested in the Iphone but I don't have a problem with someone else buying one. To each their own, right?

Have fun waiting in line.

These threads are all the same. It's like trying to convince someone that your favorite food is better than their favorite food. Waste of time.

For what? I used to have an iPhone 4, and then I switched to Android.. I dont have a reason to switch because the iPhone 4S has barely changed much from the original iPhone 4.. adding features that nobody will use. If I were to make an upgrade I'd upgrade to a better android phone.

The iphone 4s doesn't even have 4G and the screen is still small, and how often do you really thing people will use Siri? They spend their money and time improving in areas that nobody is interested in so im sticking with Android.

I agree with that. But that's just us. ;)

For many it is not a waste of time to air their thoughts and feelings about the Android/iOS comparisons.

Thus the forums and the proliferation of these sorts of threads. We welcome them all... post away!

Just don't fight. :D

I hear your words, and on the surface they sound reasonable and innocuous. But your actions speak louder, and they contradict what you say.

In your opinion, iOS has caught and surpassed Android. Has it? Other than Siri, which really does look interesting, where's the innovation? Widgets? Nope, not even when jailbroken. Side loaded apps? Ok, once jailbroken, I'll give you that one. Multi-tasking? Not really, iOS simply suspends most apps and sends them to a queue. Flash? Nope. Alternative launchers? Nope, Apple won't allow them. See the common theme here? It's customization, and Apple doesn't allow it. They make some very nice hardware, but until they rethink that aspect, iOS will never catch up. The best they can do is sue Android manufacturers, avoiding the real confrontation with Google, whom they steal from on a regular basis.

Your question has been answered again and again. Other than a couple nods of agreement, it seems that not many here see a compelling reason to jump. That must not be enough for you, because you've yet to acknowledge an opinion contrary to yours as valid, and you just won't let it be. You claim not to care, but other than your OP, the remainder of your posts in this thread, your thread, clearly and consistently say otherwise.

I'm a fan of the sgs2 and iphone 4s (currently own sgs2) and I think at the end of the day for me I do like a smaller phone and Siri looks simply amazing and is the coolest thing in mobile tech right now IMO, so I want to give it a try. Also, iMovie is a bit more advanced than Video Maker and I love that app. I am curious how the iPhone 4s camera holds up against the sgs2, because the sgs2 camera is pretty awesome. However, I do know faster shutter speed is iPhone 4s, which is great when trying to get a good picture of a 3yr old that won't sit still.

It's funny the things I think are better on Android aren't mentioned often, ie. trial periods for apps and not having to enter a password every time you download an app.

I wonder if Apple will steal text reflow from HTC. That's a really good feature to have IMO.

For those who don't know, text reflow is a feature on the stock HTC browser that wraps the text to your current zoom level, eliminating the need to scroll horizontally when you zoom in on a webpage.

For the longest time, I thought it was an Android feature.

Funny video. You do realize HTC and Google stole pinch to zoom, double tap to zoom and about a billion other things from Apple though right? Stealing the notification bar is just payback haha

HTC seemed to have been able to put those features in a package that I like more so than Apple. I'm not against iPhone users getting some nice features that Android users already have for a while. Still, the over package that Apple has come up with does not interest me enough to switch to an Apple product.

Ok, so I went down to my local Sprint store at 4am this morning all prepared to get the iPhone 4S. Luckily they had a demo model to play with while waiting once inside. The more I played with it, the more I realized it was just too damn small compared to my Evo 3D. I have gotten quite used to all that space. Not only that but I would miss having the hotspot feature, 4G and voice guided navigation. So long story short, I walked out with the Epic Touch 4G. I swore to never buy another Samsung phone again but man, the size of it, the wonderful screen, its super light weight...I just couldn't pass it up. Guess I will be sticking around a bit longer!

Wow! I'm surprised, from your posts in this thread I thought you hated us. ;)

I don't think I'll ever use a different OS. Apple has made the Iphone more appealing to me with the IOS update but the phone itself is missing features that are a must haves for me.

-SD card
-LTE
-Bigger screen
-Oh and the Android OS. :p

If the Iphone had those, then I'll buy one. :D
