Help anyone else get poor battery life?

I'm seeing between 4-6 hours of screen on. WIFI is usually stuck at the top in the list of battery drain. Really, aside from EA being lazy with support for the Infinity, this is my only issue. I love it otherwise. I'm not returning it as I'm crossing my fingers Asus fixes this battery woes quickly. And if not, I'll live with it I suppose but I won't be happy about it!

I should add that I'm primarily web browsing on it with autobrightness on, although I'm usually in a pretty dimly lit room so the screen isn't cranked up at all.

I've had my TF700 for less than a week, my biggest concern before getting it was this thread about battery life.

I'm happy to report I'm very satisfied with the battery life. I did a test, fully charged, It took 6 hours to drop 35%. By 12 hours I was below 20%. That's not too bad. Using balanced mode, I did a decent amount of web browsing, remotely controlled my pc for a half hour, played some games.

I received my dock yesterday for that added life. Together I can easily get a full day of moderate use out of it. Heavy use, watching videos, streaming, downloading non stop, high performance mode, gaming...I bet I could still get 10 hours out of the combo.

Although battery drain is still a concern, I too have fallen into a pattern of use with my tablet that has me going days between charges. I use it for a couple hours after work then in the morning before work, sometimes on the dock sometimes not, keeping it in balanced or conservation mode and turning off WiFi when not used. Because it charges so quickly, I like to keep it off the juice as long as possible. When asleep with WiFi off, it holds a charge incredibly well and for a very long time! Sure the battery could be better, but overall I'm very happy!

Now that I have my Infinity, I've spent some time testing out wi-fi performance. Here's the main problem: it's really hard to quantify everyone's definition of usage. In other words, unless we know exactly how much data is being transferred via wifi in a set amount of time, there's no way to compare one person's 'high usage' to another's.

So I started with some simple tests just to weed out some of the speculation.

First test: turn off the screen but leave wifi on. I have a gmail account and an exchange mail account that are both pushing mail as they arrive. I get about 5-10 emails per hour from both accounts combined. Started at 100% charge. Set to Performance mode. Wifi set not to turn off when tablet sleeps. 3 hours later, I was at 98%.

Second test: I set wifi to turn off when tablet is asleep (screen off). I powered off the screen, waited 15 seconds, then turned it back on. On the lower right, it reported no connectivity, and then a few seconds later, my wifi was back on. That proves the wifi did go to sleep when I turned the screen off, and nothing was keeping it on. I turned off the screen again, this time for 8 hours straight (overnight). Started at 100% charge, performance mode. In the morning, I turned on the tablet, and the battery indicator read 99%.

So in both of these situations where I was not actively using the tablet, wifi is behaving normally: very little drain. I've read people claim that searching for hotspots is causing big drain. I don't see any evidence of this; nor have I ever seen evidence of this with my 3 Android phones.

When I looked at my battery stats, it reported that 99% of my usage was from wifi. Makes sense, since the screen was off (hence no display usage), no apps were running in the background (email programs couldn't sync cause there was no connectivity), and Android OS was perfectly calm and not wasting resources. So that 99% wifi use accounted for at most 1% of the battery drain in 8 hours.

So I really think that the battery life concerns people have here are purely based on heavy usage, not something inherently wrong with the device. If you use use more data, you'll use more battery. This is a pretty fixed correlation, so if you feel you're not getting good hours, it's cause you're doing something that eats battery fast, and you have to come to terms with that.

thanx novoxx77 for this write up. i whole heartily agree with your conclusion. i have tried these same tests on my infinity and have seen similar results. just curious though are you using your keyboard dock while running the tests? cuz i ran tests with it docked to the keyboard. not that it would really make any difference.

I've been using mine for a couple days now and finding the battery life seems very poor and not what i was expecting or advertised.I haven't even been doing much on it..using news apps, light web surfing, reading a book. Not doing any streaming video or gaming on it right now. I have it set to power saving mode, turn off wifi in sleep mode, gps and location services off.

Any one else experiencing this? or have tips on what can improve it?

Same with me. On my second infinity and cannot get more than 4.5 hrs life with light continul use. Even drained battery and recharged, same thing.
Ran all the same side by side with ipad 3. ipad 3 on max bright and infinity on max bright regular ips.Ipad 3 killed the infinity for battery life.
This is going to be the infinity's flaw. Just as the prime's was wifi and gps.
How sad as i really want to like this tablet.
