Help anyone else seeing the signal bars completely disappear?

I exchanged GNexus once already, same issue...at times no signal at all... get no data connection error on browsing, market, speed test apps.
what is strange is I get 4G/4 bars in parts of NJ, closer to NYC, in parts of NYC and speed is sometimes 20 up, 10-12 mb down, elsewhere it won't even go above 1mb download:mad::mad: sometimes even in a 4g full signal area, it drops all bars for few minutes and then comes back...I am not sure it is the hardware...
Annoying like Hell:mad::mad::mad::mad:

you should have kept your GN.

my buddy has had the same exact issue with his bionic in different part of the country. it's clearly a verizon network issue, rather than a failing of the GN ;)

your 3g Dinc is a different animal. you're comparing apples to oranges.

I'm simply comparing reception in the same areas with two different phone. If the Dinc is two years old than the Gnex should have at least the same reception quality in the same areas; and I'm in Atlanta so I'm not in some rural country area.

Don't get me wrong I really like this phone a lot, but the reception issue needs to be addressed and I don't care if it's a VZ problem or a Google problem, it just needs to be fixed fast.

I have problems with bars turning grey and then losing net connection but not phone connection (ever). I find that putting it in airplane mode and then back out, will get it back. but this shit needs to be resolved.

I think bottom line most of us could agree upon is that this is not a cheap phone, supposed to be flagship phone with major release of the operating system. We expected better reliability of phone and data signal than what we experienced thus far. Camera is crappy as well. If carriers do not play along, Google needs to find a better business model to release Android phones directly in partnership with manufacturers. I rather pay $350-400 and get an unlocked device that is CDMA/GSM than get stuck with AT&T or Verizon or.... I find them suckers of our money and providing less value for it. My 2 cents anyway!
Regards

This can't be. This honestly can't be. After owning a Bionic from the day it came out, the signal drops are infuriating. They happen at least 7-8 times a day! I could not put up with this again at ALL. This really does suck too because I have been obsessed with this phone and saving my cash for it so I can buy it, but now, not the case. The Rezound is looking better and better every time I hear someone talk about it, it is also the one that I have heard doesn't have the data drops. The Razr? Hell it probably has the drops too considering it's from Moto. God I don't know what to do now. :(

My GN was working great at first (got it on launch day), but ever since the major LTE outage on 12/21, mine has been losing data connection quite a bit as well. I will see gray bars with no 4G or 3G symbol, and net apps will not work. I'm hoping this is a Verizon network issue, or perhaps a specific software issue with the GN. I guess only time will tell whether it's 1) a Verizon network issue, 2) a GN software issue, or 3) a GN antenna or radio hardware issue. Hoping it's not the latter!

Friends, not that this is any excuse or a consolation, when I got my kid a Samsung Skyrocket on AT&T, it won't 'Rocket' to the Sky!... there were:
1. DEAD devices (AT&T store rep opened two and they won't even start:mad:)
2. Almost NONE to POOR data speeds, internet access (even within the store)
3. In areas where they were testing LTE (like NYC) constant searching for 3g vs 4g/LTE signal, sucking battery in 3-4 hrs max
4. AT&T won't admit any network transitioning/handover problems. Standard answer ranged from: No Issues here to do a hard reset, Phone On/Off, go talk to Samsung tech support who will bounce me back to mostly clueless AT&T. Ironically setting the Application Network Settings (APN) to wap.cingular.com at least got me consistent internet access (slow though)...lol...went back to the store and walked them thru and their phone started working (slow internet access that is)...lol...
net net, I am beginning to resign to the fact that for many of us practitioners of 'leading edge...bleeding edge' this is living thru that desire in real-life...we should keep the pressure on carriers via digital 'Occupy Verizon, AT&T...'
Oh well, on that note, have a great day everyone and keep the chin high...lol
regards

I use lightflow with the 'no connection notification' set at solid red.
This phone's connection does go down a lot more than one realizes.
Early this morning I looked over and the red notification was on for over an hour.
Came back when I toggled air plane mode.
The red notification comes on when the phone is in sleep and there is no connection.
Will not come on in sleep when there is a connection.
Hope this helps

I had no bars this morning and had to restart the phone to get a signal back. Once restarted I only had one to two bars of 4G.

I have noticed that if i switch to 3g, it keeps a signal all day long. If i turn on LTE, i lose the 4G connection every 15 min or so, then I may or may not get the 3g signal. so for some reason when it drops the lte signal it has difficulty picking up the 3g signal.

you can't compare a 3g network that's been established for years to a new 4g LTE network. they're completely different. even the way your 4g phone receives 3g signal is different.

Seems Nexus is not the only phone with this. I feel bad for those with this trouble regardless of which phone. I am not having total signal drop/outage issue. It just drops to 3G where LTE is weak.

this is what many seem to be missing. the fact that verizon's new LTE 4g network causes issues like this with any model of 4g phone, but it doesn't occur with everyones'.

My bars dropped off while driving today. I keep the phone on cdma all the time. When the bars dropped, It dropped the call. I hit the home button and then went back to phone and the bars returned full signal. Happened again a couple of minutes later and I did the same thing and they came back four full bars again.
The caller I kept dropping though said that he had a weak signal and thought it was his phone. THis is the first time that Ive had this problem and I bought it on release day.

3g signal on 4g phones its affected by 4g network problems. i called verizon when their 4g network went down a week or two ago and it mentioned that in the recording.

I've been having the same issues. Took my first one back for this issue, and the second one is worse. Now the store won't do another exchange, because they couldn't replicate the issue in the store. :(

Called Tech Support, and when I gave him my signal readings on both 4G and 3G, he sounded sincerely astounded. He said I'm 1.3 miles from one tower and 1.7 miles from another tower in the dead center of a strong 4G area. He said I should not be seeing signal in the range of -100dBm. He told me it should be closer to -75dBm. He said he's sending me a new SIM card hoping that will help. He gave me his cell phone number to call him back Sunday after using the new card for a couple days, and if my issue isn't resolved, he'll start a trouble ticket. He told me there should be NO signal problems in my area, and since this is one of their two top sellers, it will be a Priority One, and they will definitely look into fixing the problem locally.

I know a CSR will tell you anything, but this guy sounded sincere and concerned. Whether or not it does me any good, time will only tell. Until then, I remain...FRUSTRATED.

I'm interested to hear if the new SIM helps. If it does, I'll be making the same phone call.

I too hope this works for you. At home, if you go by the bars visible on the task bar, I have zero bars, only the 3G symbol. However I can still open the browser and search, look at Facebook, make calls, etc... Verizon has actually switched out my handset 3 times in hopes that maybe I've got a lemon. No such luck! Lets hope something is done about this in a quick hurry. Also FRUSTRATED!

I don't understand why you say that. Perhaps VZW is having issues with their network, but I had a BB for 3 years and the connection at my home was just never a problem. At home with this phone, I only rarely see a 4G connection, which is fine, but the phone often cannot get enough 3G to connect to the web. I will give up 4G for a reliable 3G at this point.

I called tech support, got a ticket number, but no call back. My guess is they are buried right now.

Not sure what to try next: Bionic, Rezound, iPhone - but I may just buy the one with the best signal strength at the store.

OK, so based on what you're saying I just need to get use to the fact that the 'newest and greatest phone' has a 4g signal that sucks, where the old 3g signal on my Dinc was perfect (in two years I honestly can't recall ever having a dropped call). I get it now, one step forward, two steps back! :(

Have you checked this out? Maybe he is expecting the EVDO signal reading
