Anyone else snag a TouchPad during the fire sale?

I ordered one from B&N, doesn't look promising. Lots of people getting messages saying that their order is unable to be processed; they sure were able to process my cc though.

You've got a 1 year warranty. Besides, it's $100. If it dies after a year and you only paid $100 for it, you probably got your money's worth. I don't know about changing the battery. No clue. I really want the touchstone charger, but it's $80. I paid $100 for the tablet and I'm supposed to pay $80 for a charger? Really?

They've not charged me yet. I got an email saying they received my order and the expected ship date is 8/24. I have not been charged for my order from Best Buy yet either. I'm hoping that between the two I get at least one TouchPad out of this.

Yeah, funny how that worked out.

B&N clearly state that your CC will not be charged until the item has shipped. I guess I missed that fine print stating that this does not apply to Touchpad purchases. "we charge for Touchpads immediately, we will ship them to you when we get around to it... if we have the item in stock."

I could actually understand this happening on Saturday, but they had a full 48 hours to plan for this event and they still messed it up.

Edit: answering the OP. I got one 16gb and one 32gb from Walmart at 5AM Saturday morning. I have 3 more ordered. Paid for them, but we will see if they come in.

That would look really bad for US's image if there are mass riots across the country because of an HP Touchpad shortage. Japan would just be like "Jesus Christ... that's what they think of devastation."

Well... Lady Gaga, I can't say. Justin Bieber is from Canada... so we can just blame Canada again (sorry Roze!). :p

I personally really like memes involving cats. As long as they're funny or clever... they're just fine with me.
 
HP is encouraging ppl to go into Brick and Mortar stores for inventory. Has anyone had any luck that way? I haven't yet tried. Supposedly Radio Shack, Staples, Costco stores should have stock.
 
What's a bit sad for HP is that this is probably a taste for them how Apple feels whenever they release a new/updated iProduct, except for the wrong reason.
 
@dc2grape, they're all over Craigslist! The 16gb versions are offered from $125-299.

No one understands why HP released a white 64gb version @ $599 yesterday, though. Go figure
 
You can't find them on CL here locally. Only guy selling one wants to trade it for an iPad. Good luck with that. Otherwise, they're just not available here.

My order at Best Buy is still "in processing". My payment was processed yesterday though. That's a good sign right? But they haven't shipped it yet so they could always refund my money to me. I really want this new toy. Is it sad that this is the most exciting thing going on in my life right now?

Same here. My order was placed at 12:06 central time, and they continued to take orders til almost 4 am. B&N really dropped the ball on this one. 48 hours to prepare and this was the best they had to offer. At least when the original Nook sold out you aware of it, so it's not like they don't have the ability to track their inventory.
 
I'm seeing people with their tin foil hats on claiming that BN never intended to honor any of the orders anyway. I placed mine at around 0700 and they were still taking orders. They said that BN has had the Touchpad on their site for some time, but unavailable because all they were wanting was to get people to order it and they could gather user data that they could use to market their own tablet. So they had no intention of ever selling the thing, they just wanted to gather user information from people who would be interested in a tablet at $149 or $99 so they could market to them.
 
I thought that BN was fulfilled via Amazon? In any event, there is a site called crazedlist.org that will allow you to search Craigslist across the nation. I'm sure if you find a deal that you like, you could work out shipping with someone.

  1. To Search the whole craigslist for a specific keyword:
    keyword site:craigslist.org OR site:craigslist.ca
  2. To search some specific cities:
    keyword site:sfbay.craigslist.org OR site:nyc.craigslist.org OR site:bos.craigslist.org
    (nyc for New York, bos for Boston, aus for Austin, den for Denver etc.)
  3. To search some specific categories:
    keyword site:craigslist.org OR site:craigslist.ca inurl:sss OR inurl:hhh OR inurl: OR inurl:jjj OR inurl:bbb
    (sss 4 'for sale' category, hhh for housing category, jjj for jobs categories, bbb for services categories etc.)
  4. Use any combination of above rules to create more comprehensive craigslist search.
