Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

I wonder if it would be good to do this around the whole phone to make sure it's properly sealed.

Good thinking! The right side of my wife's screen was unsealed so I had clamp that as well. This isn't a permanent solution, but may buy some you time until we can get replacements.

Awesome idea for the screen fix. Thanks for being the first to try that out. If mine gets any worse than a solid trip to Walmart may be on my agenda.

I have a good amount of light leakage below 3 of the 'buttons', and as of yesterday I noticed that the left as well as the right side of the bottom edge is now showing light leakage. I'm talking a 1 1/2" worth of light showing. Very noticeable when the device is horizontal. This wasn't there 2 days ago. I'm leaning more and more towards the adhesive being a poor shitty job. Then add the light bleeding onto the screen, making it really bright in 3 areas. :(

I'll try to post pictures later.

Not sure what to do anymore. This will be my second handset, the first one had dead pixels towards the middle of the screen, but no light leak; both did/do have the poor WiFi problem though. I would have to sit at my desk in front of the router to get a 'Good' signal, I move a few feet in the same room and it drops.

Funny things is, I went from Friday afternoon to last night (50+ hours) on one charge with about 4+ good hours of texting/internet/customizing/Sprint TV.

I tried the hairdryer thing and results were not great, especially with a Zagg installed. Kind of wonked up the glue under the zagg and since I don't have clamps, it didn't make much change in the light. Well, it did, but now 2 hours later and we're back to square one. Oh well, I am over trying to fix it. It gets worse and I hit up TEP.

I bought 5 EVOs on the 4th from BB for myself and other family members. ALL of the EVOs are showing signs of this. My EVO has light leaking from each button on the bottom. If I twist the case, like RomanG does at the end of his video, I could easily put my fingernail between the case and screen. I will be returning all 5 to BB before July 3rd for replacement, if not refund. I so don't want to reactivate my launch day Pre, but I will if I have to. I was one of the lucky ones (I think there were 10 of us :D) that never had any problems out of the Palm Pre.

My thought is I will try for an exchange. So far we don't know the percentage of EVOs affected so there's a chance that I can get one without this defect. In addition if I do this in the first 30 days there is less hassle and I still have the option to exchange within the first year from warranty. If I wait past the 30 days I do give up the option of the 30 day return.

Besides, I figure the longer I wait the more difficult the switch to a new phone will be, although it's still a gamble.

There's no real guarantee that this issue won't happen to each and every EVO out there. Replacing within the 30 day window at this point is basically just buying you time.

I agree that there is no guarentee that the next phones will not have the same problems.

However, if everyone just "lived" with the problem this lets HTC off the hook. By not returning your EVO due to a defect you are telling HTC that your device is 100%. I will NOT pay ONE CENT of my hard earned money for any product that is defective and then not return it. That is nearly the definition of insanity to me. To each his/her own, I WILL be returning my EVOs to BB in order to let HTC know that this is truely an unacceptable problem.

We've identified this issue in the lab and are reviewing the information and devices.
It does not appear to impact the usability of the device - the LCD and touch screen are sealed units.

Wassup my man. I tried your fix and so far so good. You are the man. Hopefully it works for a long time. Untill I get my next upgrade and get the EVO 2 with a 40mp camera and 2060p HD video camera and a 4ghz quadcore processor and a slim 5000mah battery.LOL :D

New Evo/Android user checking in. Bought one at BB on Saturday and the OS is terrific. Sadly, my phone also has the display problem. It's raised along the bottom of the phone and I have horrible light issues. It's extremely annoying when watching a movie or viewing web pages with light backgrounds. I just finished the hair dryer mod with some clamps and we'll see how that works. If it doesn't, and i can't get a replacement with a properly assembled display by the 24th, I'm getting another iPhone, which is going to be a step backward. The iOS is the Jitterbug of the smart phone world after my limited experience with Android.

I wonder if there's a widget or something to turn off the LEDs under the bottom buttons? Are those lights somehow related to the display itself, or do they just light up the home
page button, etc.? I'm not too annoyed by the screen raising up a very small amount, but if the light issue can be resolved, I'd be fine with the phone.

Here is a pic of my light bleed..if I press slightly on the screen it disappears.

I not sure if to live with it or take it back to R/S:confused:

Would you keep a Prius with a sticky gas pedal?
All you have to do is just reach down and lift it back up when it sticks. This doesn't affect the usability of the car.. Or, would you take back to the dealer and have it fixed?

Just got of the phone with R/S they don't have and replacements and told me to take it to a Corporate Sprint store.

What do you guys think I should do ??

R/S said I could get a refund...but I really like this phone.

The light bleed between the base and display would be a non-issue for me. My problem is the bleed onto the display on light colored backgrounds. Try taking a picture of the phone after hitting the menu button. It's not apparent on the dark home screen.

I dont get what your saying...do you have a pic ?

You people cry when the screen isn't bright enough, now when you see a little light escaping from the sides you freak out. It's like some of you can't ever be satisfied. Why don't you (the people complaining) go develop a smart phone. The only problem I have with my Evo is battery life and that's a conundrum for all smartphones.
The Evo is my first android phone. But I am getting frustrated about battery life. I am used to 13-14 hours of battery life with my instinct, but I am barely getting 10 hours with the Evo. Does this sound normal?

It is great to hear Sprint identifying an issue and looking into it.

Sorry for the bad pictures, hard to take a decent picture in the dark without a stand. Light bleeding at the top right (Bottom right in vertical position) and pretty much half of the phone below (left) at the edge.

Mine looks EXACTLY like this. My screen is hardly elevated at all. I have to stare at it from a specific angle to see any elevation. I can push it down a hair If I press on the lower left of the screen under the home button and then the light leak just about disappears. I really love this phone and it has no stuck pixels which is a dream come true. I just don't know what to make of this screen issue. I'm almost wondering if the phones with a serious screen separation issue are rising up MUCH more than mine.

I also have slight light leakage below the buttons. I'm usually very anal about any defects, no matter how small, but since I really love this phone, I was willing to overlook this issue. However, today at the grocery store, I noticed that my EVO has slight separation from the screen on the right side, in the same area as the volume buttons. I carefully inspected the phone when it arrived and have done so daily since receiving it, so this just happened. I can only assume it will get worse, despite "babying" this device.

I really don't want to go back to AT&T and my iPhone. I'm getting great service with Sprint and much faster 3G speeds. I don't know if I should cancel with Sprint, exchange it, or wait until later on down the line to use the warranty/insurance when it is (hopefully) more likely that HTC has resolved these issues.

Join the "fix it when the problem is taken care of" club. Switching now isn't going to fix a thing, but stick with the EVO - you know you want to.

Sprint is notorious for deleting negative feedback on their FB page. It's quite taboo in the social media world to do that. However, they keep doing it. Coming from that industry, I've actually never seen it done as bad as they do it. It's sad. Most people don't have pitchforks, they are just asking for help.

That is the same thing I was told by radio shack and I believe that is why I was able to return to sprint.
