I will post this question here as many want to know and do not seem to want to ask in the root section of this forum, has anyone tried to root there phone since the latest maintenance update release 2.31.651.7

I tried with androot and no luck, thinking of going back to the last version so I can root again. I don't see much improvement with the new release at least not yet. Any other suggestions?

That is the answer many wanted to know, thus the reason why I have not updated

I have Godspeed Recovery Darchstar edition. Rooted. Tried to run the update. When it reboots it goes into Darchstar recovery and tries to verify the update. the verification fails and it won't run the update. Any insight on this?

I was asking for others, but the reason why is simple, peeps want to update and if the update does not resolve there issues, they want to be able to root without having to re flash the .5 build

Why update if you plan to root though? It's a bit pointless in that case..

I have, just started getting into rooting on the Android. I came from WM, and found this application to work brilliantly!! Download Rom Manager from the market place. It is as easy as one click, and worked flawlessly to root. It can root and unroot with 2 clicks!!

I have a Sprint HTC hero that was update to the latest!!!

Are you sure you rooted with the latest 2.31.651.7, check your firmware to make sure, I was told you cannot root with the latest, and have you flashed any ROM's yet

That's my reason. I would be okay running the stock ROM if the lag issues were corrected. If I can root it to run a couple apps that I want, e.g. wifi tether, it would be even better.

i rooted last Tuesday current asroot2 worked for me. my question but i never installed the new update. rooted another a week a week ago but lost the phone last friday...still didn't update

After you roll back the update and root .5 has there been a rooted/deoxed version of the most recent release posted? I hadnt seen one but maybe Im not the best at searching.

I tried to roll back to .5 and then root after I received the.7 update. the RUU to .5 claimed to work, but when I came back up, I was still at .7.

Well you just said you tried to root after rolling back to the .5 build and then root after you did the .7 update, is not correct, if you are updated to the .7 build, then you would have to flash the .5 build and not update the .7 build, just root from the .5 build, unless you explained it improperly

I guess I am not clear. I am trying to root. But I am at .7 and the instructions I have to root explain that if I am at not at .5, I need to run a script that takes me to .5 and then I can root. [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

But when I attempt to "revert" to .5, I am not successful. The revert steps say they are complete, but I am still at .7.

What I would like to know is how to root at .7. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't believe anyone has found root yet with .7:( Hopefully some day:)

The only way thus far is to flash the .5 build back first then you can root access from there, you will have to search for the .5 build, it is out there, but you will not find it on the HTC or the Sprint website, I will look for it again when I get to work and if I find it I will post you a link here later

Just to correct this, you DO NOT have to flash back to .5 to root. the universal 1 click method (link below) works with the 2.1-update-1 (.6). I did it on 2 phones this week, and it worked as it should.

One click Root APK for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

I tell you what I would really like to know if anyone knows, what if one roots with the one click Universal Androot then does a nandroid back up, does that save the phone exactly as stock but with root access, then one can flash a custom ROM to play with, then if they don't like it, they can flash there original backup, then be back to stock and rooted, then could they use the Universal Androot to unroot and be back @ square one (stock)
