Anyone try simultaneous voice/data over 3G and/or 4G?

I know they aren't advertising the simultaneous voice and data over 3G, but reports are that it works. Anyone had a chance to try it? Or how about while on LTE? Certainly not a deal breaker for me either way, just curious.

just did it on 4g on my brothers thunderbolt. i was actually impressed with the speed and there was absolutely no change in voice quality.
I would say the speed was a tad (maybe 1 or 2 seconds) slower than on my X on 3g like normal.

Tethering now and just made a phone call. No prob. Holy crap this thing is fast. 20 Mbps down and 13 Mbps up. And that's a speed test on the laptop.

All the replies were answering the OP's question. They asked

First of all, if you are going to quote someone, get the quote correct. He initially asked about 3G then about LTE. No mention of the word "4G" anywhere in the post. That is how I missed it initially.

My apologies, as I did miss where he asked about LTE.

Read the freakin' TITLE of the thread: "Anyone try simultaneous voice/data over 3G and/or 4g"?

BTW, 4g = LTE on Verizon's network. It's the same thing.

If you're going to criticize people, at least know what you are talking about.

Wow, aren't you friendly. They said 4G in the thread title... which you should have read to get into this conversation. Or did you miss that? It's also right above the post. It happens, but don't be quick to jump on people...

Just tried it in 3G and it works. Repeat: Calls + 3G web browsing at the same time works. I am absolutely sure I turned wifi off.

I just had it work on 3g for me as well!

:-D

EDIT: Just to confirm that there was no LTE or wifi signals available when I tried, so there's no chance it snuck through one of those. I was on the Boston subway and they only have 1X/3G signals underground for Verizon, no LTE (and no wifi) yet.

lurking the thunderbolt forums :)

so.... in theory if the thunderbolt is set up any way like the evo...the calls+data would definitely work over lte or wifi as they use different radios correct?

the true test on the evo was ACTIVELY downloading/uploading over 3g and trying to make a call...which of course did not work. over the months we found many would open up a web page (which had finished loading mind you) and made a call...which of course worked...the radio wasn't downloading or uploading anything at the time the call was made.

very interested in the continued results in the dload speeds people are achieving with this phone.

looks awesome!

Its been confirmed that you can surf and talk with 3g/4g

There is a video on Youtube showing that it works. Its due to the new chipset

Verizon is just not really advertising it due to possible iphone sales taking a hit.

LTE is not doing voice at the moment so it is only for data. So there is no simultaneous data/voice over LTE. Data will be LTE(4G) and voice will be always CDMA(3G). So if you want to test if it does voice/data on 3g (CDMA) you only can test it if you are in a zone where you don't have LTE because you can't switch off LTE.

Right and Wrong

4G is Data Only (Right Now) VoIP coming in the future. This means that both Data and Voice will be simultaneous over 4G.

3G is Data Only. Has been and always will be on Verizon

Voice Is over 1x

With the new Chipset in the Thunderbolt, it can run both 1x and 3G or 4G at the same time.

Not sure of the technical stuff but it can run both streams as one. Think of a Dual Core Processor. Same idea where it can handle two things at once.

Thanks for clarification. You are right:-) For me as livelong GSM user it is hard to understand;-)

This one got a little heated up there. I'm really jazzed about this phone suddenly. I got a Droid Pro when it came out and I love the keyboard, but the screen just isn't big enough and moto's locked bootloader means there isn't a single custom rom out yet (if ever) and I loved hacking my Incredible.

Anyhow, thanks to everyone that has commented. I realize now I don't care about simultaneous voice/data in a 4G area, since I'm not frequently in one. I really just care about being able to drive down the road on a call, anywhere in New England and still getting emails/data.

Anyone else been able to use simultaneous voice and data while NOT in a 4G coverage area and NOT on wifi? Again, just on 3G network, is voice and data working at the same time?

Yup, I can add my wee confirmation to the list. I live in a non-4G area (even have that turned off through the "phone info" app) and I don't have my wi-fi on. Called work, then went on facebook. The call quality dropped a wee bit, but it worked none the less!

No sweat...was on the phone today and was streaming Pandora, then downloading a file, then googled for food in the area... Not a single hickup on 4g.

Yes, it works for me and there is no 4G where I live. Tried it the first day and still use it.;) When i talk on the phone the 3G is still on. I remember on my INC the 3G would drop while on a call.
