Root AOKP 4.2 (jb-mr1) Discussion

TBH, if you're not looking for the PA features in PAC. You might as well stay with AOKP.

I like Pac, because I crank my resolution up. I like having more screen real estate.

This. If you're not going to tweak the dpi, just run aokp... Pa uses more resources so no need for it if you're not going to use it.

So I am a huge fan of DSP Manager from CM. I can never get it to work on AOKP. It works just fine for me on CM and elemental X. Anyone else have this issue? I listen to music all day at work and it sounds much better with DSP.

Some report that it works, but on all the devices I've run AOKP on (Droid 1, Droid 2, Droid X, Spectrum), DSP has never worked on AOKP. I've heard mixed results for pushing the Beats files to your device, which you can do with PimpMyRom. Use with caution... I've heard it really screwing up our audio in some cases.

If you're using Google Music or DoubleTwist player (like I do), the equalizers in both work better than DSP, so food for thought.

Battery life/performance.

Some of you know I'm an avid Juice Defender user and speak highly of it. However, on the MR1 release of AOKP and wifi, I find it's more of a hindrance to the OS, than helping it.

Case-in-point, I went to bed last night @ 92%, woke up at 37%... and I was only asleep for 6 hours.
Doing the math, that's 9% an hour, which is what you should see with moderate use like browsing or anything that uses the screen.
What's odd is I have 'kill all' set when the screen is off, with 15 minute pings (for my Exchange email), so at MOST I should have lost 10% battery.

Now, I keep wifi on at home and have it prevented from being killed, but given the way wifi is supposed to work on these roms, it shouldn't drain the battery if the device is in deep sleep, as mine was.

So I'm going to keep monitoring, but I think there's an issue with wifi and the kernel. I've got Juice Defender turned off for now and I'm going to see how it does tonight. Since it can't seem to put my phone into airplane at night anymore, the app has less and less functionality for me these days, anyway.

It's a change in 4.2.2 that broke the airplane mode.

You can get tasker with the secure settings app + the root helper within that. It's a bit more advanced than juice defender... but if you can figure it out you can do a lot more than juice defender did.

Oh nice one, thx! I have jd super modified to do what I want, so I can probably figure out the other app.

So far, using it with LLAMA is far more effective than JD. Of course, there are some quirks with LLAMA, like it won't let you split ring from notification tones without an error message every time the profile changes (even though every rom lets you do it).. but it put me into airplane last night, as expected. Hell, i can even have it kill the data when the screen is off and I'm not at home, like JD used to... only its faster.

I still have Google Search as my #1 battery consumer overnight... still trying to figure that one out. With no data connection, 'Now' shouldn't be trying to update.

I saw a comment somewhere that somebody had gotten better battery life leaving GPS on, said that Google searching for it when it was off was using more battery than just leaving it on. Maybe try that? I haven't had an issue with Google Search, but I don't use it very much.

There was something about a maps feature that would make search run constantly. You should be able to disable it through google settings.

How is the 6-3-13 nightly doing?? Video playback working??

I haven't tried the latest AOKP, but the latest PacMan still has video playback issues. From what I understand that's due to the core CM code that each of these ROMs are based on so I'd assume it's still an issue on AOKP as well, could be wrong though! The 3/21 nightly was the latest stable AOKP for me, just trying out the battery life on the others right now.

Thank you for this!!! Very informative. Tried it out myself and it does indeed have video playback issues. Couldn't even play a video on YouTube. Also, I've been using ElementalX and when someone calls it just says "In Call" and no number even though I have that person in my contacts. Tried latest P.A.C.MAN and it did the same. Is that also a known issue for aosp roms??

Pretty much all our roms except stock are cm based.

Oh wow... I didn't even realize there was a video playback issue. When did it last work that you know of?

... I wonder if its related to the 1080p recording fc issue.

could be... there was a ton of audio/video commits right before the rc came out. It looked like they just jackhammered it.

Last time video stream worked for me was on CM 5/27 nightly. Ever since it has had odd issues.

Tried out 6-9 nightly and YouTube video playback was okay, still a bit messy when changing from landscape to portrait orientation while video playing. Also tried playing a video from Facebook with gallery video player and screen was jumbled still. :(

So I noticed Bluetooth works but suddenly stops. After a reset, it will come back on but then stop and trying to turn it back on fails. Anyone know what might be the cause?

The latest nightly (6-15) has the black screen issue, is an update being worked on? Also sounds like the video playback problems have been fixed in CM so would be nice to have that fixed too ;-)
