Root AOSP vs Sense ROMs

Just checking out this thread and thought I'd chip in my 2 cents. I wanted the speed of the AOSP roms on my Evo with the functionality and stability of a Sense based rom and while reading up on all the different roms out there and trying a few on each end of the spectrum I found [ROM] VaelPak 3.0 [01/01/11] - NonSense - [SBC-NOHAVSv8] - 3.70.651.1 OTA - xda-developers this rom. The developer took a sense based rom and removed sense from it leaving an AOSP lightness and feel with sense functionality. for me it's the perfect balance and might be the solution to what some of you are looking for. Def worth a look anyway. I love it, it's basically stopped me from flashing a new rom every week or 2 onto my phone. I've been rocking Vaelpak for roughly 6 weeks now.

A good ROM (according to me) is one that offers -

- complete stability
- a better user experience and added features
- is smoother and faster in daily use
- great battery life

I don't care about Sense/AOSP as long as these are met. Tried CM7 and it didn't feel any faster to me than Sense rom's such as Myn's WarmZ which I'm running now. The one with the most features is easily MIUI but I had battery life on it and had to switch.

Sense IMO gets a bad rep but its by far the best oem interface (esp compared to MotoBlur, TouchFlo etc) and HTC do have nice enhancements. Once you take out the bloatware (Sprint, Nascar, Amazon) the remaining parts of Sense are not bad at all.

I am running CM7 now because it seems the best supported of the AOSP type and is somewhat stable (and I just felt like it) ... But only Sense will have the stability most people want, because the mfr knows its own quirks best. Things like AGPS, and voicemail (OK that's Sprint not HTC) just won't work as well, if at all ... Simple removal of bloatware from Sense by renaming the offensive /system/app/whatever.apks using Root Explorer achieved maximum stability with great speed and smoothness. So the gf's phone remains stock Sense ... Worst bloat offenders are actually the Google apps and their minions (partners). I can live without GMaps because Locus and Mapquest are serviceable enough. Now I typically get 40% main memory in use (60% free including cache).

aosp is stable enough for me, yes you have to do some "fixes" but it's well worth it IMO
I found evervolv super stable but switched to cm7 becuase it has more features and customization. CM7 is pretty stinking cool I have to say

I have to agree Luigic. I have been switching off between Destroyer and the nightlies for CM7. I like the options they give to customize without having to flash anything. Nothing comes close to it that I have seen as yet.

I run a evo4g mildly stripped sense 2.2 3.30.651 pri177 ,root(unrevo) unlock nand got superuser setcpu run netarchy/toast 4.3 bfs hav nosbc and caulkins no power clockworkmod 3.o.o.5 recovery stable overclock all day 1228 custom profiles and havs save all types of battery and EVERYTHING works.Setcpu short bench 144 long bench 293 Linpack bench 40.519mflop quadrant score 1390. Aosp cm7 kings etc...tweakers playground :-)

Im pretty sure that should have been more than two sentences :) Though neither actually count as sentences LOL.

If quad and linpack are my only methods of measuring i actually have gotten my sense to run faster. Except cm with the turbo snap kernel...

Lmao just putting out my stable recipe for a stable evo4g ...I suck at English but I can root the dogsnot out an evo Lmao :-) I couldn't get cm7 over 1119 stable and have all the bells and whistles... and how did caulkin slow down bench speed? W/out caulk high 40.8 and with was 38's on linpack gotta 1430 on quadrant after playing with setcpu . The netarchy bfs 4.3 is faster bench than cfs on my handset. I understand sence was built off aosp, I've just gotta toy around with it some more I guess... what do I have to do to break the 1228 and be rock solid? I boot loop on 1267 almost instantly are havs a bad idea for this ? I was glitchy on more hav so I went a lil less aggressive and its flawless, bit what do you do when you peak.... Lmao load cm7 and get to work !

LOL yeah your posts are difficult to read :)

I dont think there is any way you will over clock over 1228 and have a stable set up. I ran quads over 2300 but that was with turbo mode on the snap kernel.

BFS likely will bench higher than CFS. BFS has higher peaks and lower performance valleys than CFS. CFS is completely fair scheduler and its pretty much a flat line performance where as BFS is brain **** scheduler and it has a more fluctuating performance, it will go higher than than CFS but it will also go lower, this makes some peoples set ups unstable on BFS kernels.
