[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

ive been running groove ip and google voice for months on my droid razr from verizon. i no longer have a voice plan on it. it worked fine until i got the ice cream sandwich update pushed to it the other day. ever since then, google voice works for texting but i cant get groove ip to log in at all. last night at a bar for about half an hour it linked up, but it doesnt work at my house, or where i work or anywhere else that it used to. i deleted both google voice and groove ip, downloaded them multiple times trying to find a fix, and i have no idea what is wrong.

can someone help me?

Are you using WiFi or a mobile data connection? What error do you get when you try to sign in? Also try doing the following

1) Uninstall the app
2) Restart the device
3) Download and install the app again

Also try making a call from your computer. Log into www.gmail.com then click "Call phone" from under Chat and install the plugin and make a call.

Is there a way that I can use the phone's number as the google voice number, get incoming calls through groove ip, and always have the groove dialer as the default? That way, I could just text with the phone. I'm getting the Samsung exhibit 2, and wanted to know if that was possible. I obviously don't fully understand yet. The main question is if I'd have to use google to text.

GrooVe IP can only make calls through your Google Voice account, so using your Google Voice phone number. The only way to use your native phone number would be to port that to Google Voice, but at that point it would be like canceling your native service. I believe sprint is the only one that integrates with Google Voice completely so your Google Voice number can be the same as your native number.

Hi snrb,
Grooveip seems to be dead on my Samsung this morning! No outgoing or incoming call, even though the phone is working normally? Is anyone having same problem?

Google Talk currently is experiencing a massive outage affecting a majority of Google Talk users. Since the app connects through Google Talk this will affect calls through GrooVe IP. When Google resolves the issue calls should also work properly again.

You can get updated status on the problem here

Thanks snrb for quick response. First time it happened, so I don't know the source of the problem. Sorry about that! It's back now. Google is the problem.

snrb labs,

I purchased the App today. I am new to Android, but partially tech savvy. I have the Samsung Exhibit II, TMO no contract, with 100 minutes but unlimited data.

The App worked right away, my first call connected and my GV number showed up in the caller ID on the receiving phone. Only one problem so far: I'm getting voice delay on both sides. We had to talk like we were using walkie talkies, where we'd say "over" then wait. This was over a 4G connection. I haven't had a chance to try it on wifi yet. Which settings should I play with? The mic buffer? Total volume? The overall sound was really good, just the delay made the conversation very difficult. I will experiment with it more tomorrow, thanks for any advice.

The most likely issues is latency on your network. Can you run a speed test with the free speedtest.net app. Check the upload, download and ping time. A high ping time could indicate latency.

I purchased groove ip for use on my galaxy tab 2 the one feature I would like to see is integration with The contacts app.when browsing my contacts there is no option to call with groove ip.

Besides that I love the app & it was well worth the purchase :)

Not sure I understand why you rooted the phone to use the app, the app does not require you to be rooted.

I know that rooting it has nothing to do with it, that still doesn't mean you can't follow up with an answer if you knew, so apparently you don't. Also another question is when I root my phone with z4root it just disappears after it's done. It doesn't restart or anything!

I've been using speedtest.net since I bought the phone, and my ping/download/upload has been consistently better than my friend who has an Iphone on ATT. My pings range from 45ms to 62ms on 4G and around 30ms on my wifi at home.

The App does work significantly better on wifi. Although I was in Reno over the weekend using their wifi at Peppermill, and I experienced the same kind of delay. So sounds like the App will only work for me (without the delay) on a very good connection. I'm disappointed with TMO 4G that I'm not getting a better connection, but that's what I get for switching to the no contract $30/month plan. I'm used to Verizon network, but I got tired of paying $90/month and being locked in for 2 years at a time.

This App will help pick up the slack on my limited minute plan, and with that I am satisfied.

You shouldn't expect to have 4g speeds. They don't even have very many 4g towers in kentucky and they say they do to charge you more, it's ridiculous. Even your phone will say 4g but it's not true in most places here at all! 3g is faster so it doesn't make since!

And I forgot how I got Groove IP to work but it didn't make since why it was making the problem. I can't use it though because it's a 715 area code which is long distance and I believe whoever I call would be charged for long distance

You can always select a new Google Voice phone number by logging in at google.com/voice. I believe they allow you to specify a preferred area code.

I recently downloaded Groove IP to save money with my new prepaid TMobile plan on my Samsung Dart. I have two issues, and hope this is the right place to post:
1. Once connected the touch tones are recognized, e.g. I can't dial someone's extension
2. I can hear the other side fine but there seems to be a big delay or something for them...they keep saying "Hello? Hello?" until they can finally hear me.

Is there something I can do to rectify these issues???

Hi;

I have 2 numbers pointing to my phone:

1) Google Voice number that forwards to cell phone number
2) Cell phone number

If someone calls the Google Voice number, will it send me the call through Voip (Google chat) or forward the call to my cell phone number (ie cell towers)?

For the first issue try turning off audible dtmf from the audio/echo settings in GrooVe IP. That may help. For the second are you using WiFi or a mobile data connection? It could be latency on the network, or it could be something on the device going into a power saving state. Try the keep screen alive checkbox and then maybe synchronize voice.

GrooVe IP can only receive the call if you have calls forwarded to Google Chat in your Google Voice account.

Ok; if the call forwards to Google chat AND another phone number that points to the same phone, how will the call be routed? (Through Google Chat, or through my carrier's number)

You'd receive the call twice. Depending on which incoming call screen you answered on it would go through your carrier or through GrooVe IP.

I actually have the app. I can make calls. How can ppl call me through it? It doesn't want to work.

You'd have to have a Google Voice phone number. People would have to call that number and you'd have to have calls forwarded to Google Chat in your Google Voice account.
