Root Apps2sd not working after updating?

Download here:

GParted - Browse /gparted-live-stable at SourceForge.net

You need to use CD burning software that allows you to "burn image to disc" or Burn iso to disk".

Its a bootable cd so it doesnt matter what Operating system you have.

It is best coming from a wipe in this case, yes.

Without being offensive, why do you always advise people to burn to a disk. I don't know many that keep spares lying around anymore, especially young people.

Why not just burn it to a usb drive? so much easier.

Download the website and find the iso.
Plug in your pen drive.
Download and run this.
UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads
run the .exe, locate the iso, and select burn to disk drive (E:) or wherever it is.
Done.

Now you just boot from the usb when you turn on the computer.

I just think a USB is so much easier.

Ok thanks guys..i'll try both ways to see which is easier.

Sorry seems i have another question =/

4) Resize the existing FAT32 partition from the back, leaving space after it and create an EXT partition in the space. Steps for the GUI are below.

  • In the drop down menu (top right) select the SD card (be careful not to select your HDD)
  • Right click on the FAT32 Partition and select resize
  • Press the Up arrow on "Free Space Following" until you have the desired sizes
  • Click Resize
  • right click in unallocated space and select New> EXT format of your choice
  • Click Apply

The part where you asked to resize is that the memory that we use to install the apps? Then what about EXT? I know that there is EXT2/3/4 but whats the difference? do we need to have all or just one for example just EXT3 or just EXT2?

Because I know if they have a CD rom, it supports booting from CD. Not every machine has a bios that supports USB booting and not every usb stick is of a decent quality, plus flash memory is still pretty unreliable.

Unetbootin never worked for me but Yumi did. Given Yumi is a bit more complex to set up than unetbootin and that unetbootin isn't as reliable as you would expect, I would prefer to suggest CD burning as its an easier concept to grasp and an easier process to explain / trouble shoot.

My prefered method is VMware player, but I only suggest that to people who have no CD's or USB's

Does Leedroid even use Dark Tremor a2sd? That command only works on Dark Tremor. Thought Leedroid just uses a standard one?

Whats the memory like?

When i use quick system info, the ap2sd storage is there, and internal memory is also there. but the problem that i faced since the start is that whenever i install any app, both my internal memory and apps2sd storage reduces, and when there is no more internal memory, it says space is insufficient.

That is where i thought that maybe the partition was incorrect. but i did the gparted way and it still turns out this way.

That is correct, once internal memory is gone, you cant install anything. All the partition and a2sd does is give you abit more of a buffer by shipping part of it out to EXT.

How many apps have you installed?

So far 0 coz i plan to start all over from the start haha..

Ok then i guess everything's okay for now.

Thanks to you and williamj1 for all the help =)

Ok i did what you asked me to..and it seems it says a2sd not found! Omg so what do i do now???

Okay i think i have bigger problems now. Some of my apps are not working. and i cant seem to install any app coz it says insufficient memory and when i checked my internal memory and sd card, they is still alot of memory left.

I cant install quick system info as it kept on saying my memory is insufficient. Gosh i'm in big trouble now =/ please help T.T

Hi All

First post but been mesmerised with this rom thing and have an issue

Sort of got the same problem on HTC Desire with backup/nandroid Insertcoin, AcesMod, LeeDroid A2SD+ roms, specifically Terminal Emulator says "a2sd not found" when trying su> a2sd check etc. Trying to do this because having the same issues when update/install apps.

Internal storage: 82mb free
a2sd storage: 75mb free (sd-ext is 457mb at start)
about 130 Apps int and ext all in all

Strange thing is that when i restore Miui latest a2sd rom (backed up) the a2sd storage is as it should be (i think) and Terminal Emulator functions correctly when trying su> a2sd check etc.

Internal storage: 87mb free
a2sd storage: 239mb free (sd-ext is 457mb at start)
about 130 Apps int and ext all in all

Anyone got any ideas why the problems with a2sd between roms? I have recently changed radio but not sure if this is the problem.

regards
fs1

Because there are many different a2sd scripts and only one of them uses the a2sd command line interface. Dark Tremor, which is standard on Miui and Ginger villain.

Thanks for quick reply SUroot.

Not sure what you mean. Is it that in terminal only the roms you have specified will work with a2sd commands? How do I rectify space issue with other roms? Partition ed card to data2ext and use a base rom?

It's that the command "a2sd" is specific to one particular apps2sd solution, the DarkTremor script. This is included in the ROMs SUroot names, but if another ROM uses a different a2sd script then it won't recognise that command.

In general where a ROM contains an a2sd script all you need to do is have the partition there and flash the ROM (and if it has a setting for controlling the default app installation location, set that to "internal"). Some a2sd scripts move the dalvik cache to ext by default, others (such as those used by Oxygen and Redux) do not, but have separate add-ons that can be included if you want to do this (e.g. Redux has an extra zip you flash for this). In general the first couple of posts of the XDA thread for the ROM will tell you, but there isn't a single answer to the question - you need to read the information for the particular ROM.

If a ROM doesn't come with an a2sd solution then you are free to install your own. For example, I'm using CM7, which by default doesn't have a2sd but where a couple of options are available as add-ons. But as I'm familiar with DarkTremor I added that instead of one of the CM7 solutions. However, if a ROM comes with a2sd it's simplest to use what's included.

Historically all a2sd scripts moved dalvik as default. Then Dark tremor came about and decided not to move it by default. This meant roms using dark tremor saved less space than roms using other scripts. Now however some other roms give the option to not move dalvik.

In my experience, miui moves less than other roms by default, but I cannot comment on the roms you mentioned. You'd have to look at each roms thread as Hadron suggested.

Why the difference in space on SD ext partition between A & B?

A. Incercoin, LeeDroid roms - Internal storage: 82mb free
a2sd+ storage: 75mb free (sd-ext is 457mb at start) with about 130 Apps internal/phone storage

And

B. Miui rom - Interna/phonel storage: 87mb free
a2sd+ storage: 239mb free (sd-ext is 457mb at start) about 130 Apps internal/phone storage.

Oh I see. The gingerbread sense / new sense Roms are too big for the phones system partition so they have to put part of the Rom on sd ext. And if you don't move dalvik on miui it will take up less space on ext too.

Really your sd ext partition size is on the small side for new sense Roms.
