Are there any really simple apps that you would like?

I'd love to see a better htc-like home/time/weather widget. Here are my complaints with what I've seen so far (Beautiful Widgets, etc.)

- No analog clock skins- hate the flip dial clock
- No weather alerts
- Grossly inaccurate temperature/weather conditions displayed (off by > 10 degrees)

Edit: I know there are better weather widgets out there, but I'm looking for the all-in-one home widget.

1. There's an analog clock in the other BW pack.
2. True, wish he'd add that.
3. This isn't really his fault, in fact the latest version today said in the changelog that google's weather server has been spotty and off recently.

It would be nice if you could make a way for a Picture Frame Widget picture to link back to the original when clicked on.

2. an app to simply toggle on and off the backlighting for the 4 hard keys (back, menu, home, and search).

Great great idea. It would be so nice to keep these lit all the time in the dark.

Jon,

I really want to learn Java myself but just haven't gotten around to it.

I own fairly large marine aquarium which I have the Neptune Systems Apex controller. It is basically a small computer with multiple switched outlets and probes that keeps the aquarium happy while I am away. The Apex has a built in web server that allows you to monitor things like Temp, PH, current amp draw ect. It also has an RSS feed that spits all this data out every minute or so.

My idea for an app would be a widget that sits on the home screen and periodically reads that RSS feed and shows me the Temp, PF and current AMP draw right on my Droids desktop. That would be extremely helpful and doesn't seem that hard.

Like I said I want to learn Java but my programming skills are very limited, just some VB script and some Powershell. Anyway, that's my idea.

A media player for musicians. At a minimum it must have A->B repeat, so I can loop just a part of the song or backing track. Other features I would like to see are a jog wheel control for fast forward/rewind to make it easier to find the spots to mark as A/B. Waveform display. Metronome built in. Beat detection with the ability to sync the metronome to the beat with count in capability. Tuner built in. Tempo change with no shift in pitch.

Battery icon replacement. It's not accurate and no percentage. That's my main gripe.

Also wish Blizzard would release the Authenticator for Android. But that's not really "simple."

Mimic the way BlackBerry uses "profiles". :D

Amen. This is the single thing I miss, and it is huge. This seems like it would be so simple to build and it continues to amaze me that no developers have made an app for this yet.

I need a better way to manage all the sounds. Blackberry has sound "Profiles" you can build that list out each notification and allow you to customize the volume, vibrate, ringtone, etc. This allows specific changes to individual notifications and ringtones with one press, unlike current Android apps in which one can define only how ALL notifications behave in a given situation ..

Once you've used the BB profiles to switch - say from "work" to "home" or "page" or "night" for example with a Blackberry - you would never want any other way to do it. There is no Android app that does this. "Locale" does a bit of it, but does not come close to what the BB profiles do in terms of defining EACH notification sound per Profile name.

Please , this is really needed for Android, thanks!

some were mentioned above but:
I have a great Wifi toggle (Wifi onoff by curvefish) and would love ones fo;
Airplane Mode onoff and 3G onoff, blinking LED onoff and also a Ring/Vibrate toggle

It looks like Jon Nale is going to be a busy guy.

Hahaha. :)

Some of these are really good. I definitely would like to work on some of them, but my only concern is that most of the suggestions are widgets. The reason this concerns me is because I suck when it comes to graphics, and most people want pretty widgets.

i'm sure some graphics person here could whip you up an icon in photoshop. but really, prettiness comes in at a distant second compared to function.
