AT&T Atrix OTA v4.1.83 update roll out

I really hope all the @$$monkeys that jumped ship to the Inspire or Iphone because they thought the Atrix would not live up to billing are happy with their decision today. We have 2 updates to their, is it, ZERO updates with the Inspire and well the Iphone will always be the Iphone, nuff said. :D
My wife's Inspire updated the same day as my Atrix. Her upload speeds have tripled!

I am looking to upgrade my Motorola Razor V3xx and have been following this forum finding it useful for information about the Motorola Atrix phone. since many of the posts have been positive since Motorola dispatched the 57 and 83 updates I thought I would stop by the AT&T store and see what it was like now.
The first thing I noticed was of all the smart phones on the wall the Atrix was the only one not running. The sales person showed me that they had to re-start the phone to get a connection. Said it seems it won't maintain a connection "keeps dropping out". Since we could not maintain a connection I could not make a call to see what the call quality was like. I will note he did not say if it had the new updates or not.
I noticed that there have not been any posts on this forum since May 7th and wondered if all the problems had been solved. Since my visit to the store today I would guess they have not for all the phones.
I really hoped to be able to stay with Motorola and At&T but without a resolution to this problem, regretfully I may have to look elsewhere.:(

I have had my Atrix exactly a month to day and I have never dropped a call or have problem connecting.

Mine came with 1.2.6, ota updated to 1.5.7 then to 1.8.3 and no problems in any of the 3 versions.

When I was at the store, they were pushing the HTC Inspire over the Atrix even after I said I cam to buy the Atrix.

I would ask them to take a new one out of the box for you to try it.

Good luck.

Quick question: can I still root my phone with the new update already on there?

If you're asking if you can root the latest build, the answer is *certainly* - that's exactly what I did last week, and it may have been the easiest root of any of my android phone. As long as you follow the directions, it's a very simple process. :)

What method did you use for rooting?

I used GingerBreak. The *trick* is getting the thing onto your phone, so you can install it as an apk. Once it appears in your app drawer, it's a five minute procedure to root, install the recovery system and do a back-up.

It seems as though although Motorola had a great idea for a new phone in the Atrix they fell short on the primary purpose of a phone " to make phone calls". I have been following the Motorola forum for the Atrix call quality problem, on which it seems that the people writing in and calling Motorola have not been able to get any answers as to why their phones have such poor call quality or how to get them fixed. I have been following this thread hoping Motorola would come up with a fix and then I would purchase an Atrix phone, but since it seems no one is able to get a reasonable answer from Motorola, I will have to look elsewhere for a phone.
I hope Motorola gets their act together soon, they used to make great phones.

My call quality is fine. Almost 4 months and no issues.

Try reading the forums on just about any new phone. They all have their issues. If everyone without an issue posted in the forum that they didn't have any issues, you'd never see the ones that did.

This is a bunch of carp. I just bought 2 of these in the last 10 days and they are both perfect. The salesman at the AT&T store had been using a refurb he bought a month ago and never had any voice quality problems.

People have said I sound like I am on a landline. RF is rock solid. I read the Motorola forum call quality thread and laughed at them. They live in fear. Go forth and conquer.

Now that they are $99 you have nothing to fear, buy it from a corporate AT&T store and then take it back if you have any problems.

The internet forum is a strange beast of deception. The handful of people that do have problems all congregate in 1 place and make it sound like the world is ending.

Edit: I just read your above post and saw what phone you are using. I just went from my V3xx to this phone. My V9x broke so I went back to that old one. The Atrix call quality makes both of those look average.

This is my experience too :) I found the RF on the Atrix 10x better than the RF on my ol' Nexus One.
