Root [Avail] Newbie with z990 root- now what?

Ive recently acquired root on the z990. My reason for wanting the access was to remove bloat and improve performance. I have Superuser elite, TB, and ES File manager installed. I have read tons about getting root, and most of the available info is about HTC, Samsung or Moto. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

For the AT&T, use the instructions found on this forum after flashing the T-card update from ZTE.

For the Merit, there are instructions for that too.

The way I understandit, the zip file I downloaded and unpacked in a folder I had to set on my SD-card, put the phone back to a state that ZTE had it before AT&T put any "updates" in it. I did an ABOUT PHONE update in settings and the message was "performing T-Card update". The dialer code *983*7668# will give you the message toast "wait some time, and you will have root". I got the message immediately. But, if there is a quicker, simpler way, Id go with it. Im a noob and dont have much experiece at ths. I have no computer access, so the way I went, was my only way. Hope it helps.

What Ive seen is- You need CWM to do ROMs, I think v5.0.2.0?? And anything I can locate is not for the Avail. Being very new to Android, I dont know where to find them. And Google seems stuck on HTC, Droid, and Galaxy. Is there a Android Guide for idiots I could read through?

You can find CWM here on the forums for the Avail.

Here's a little assistance:
Download either my or anthony062991's ROM and copy superuser from them. Move the copy to your SD card and enable "unknown sources" in the Applications section of Settings. Use your favorite file manager to locate Superuser and install it. Run the ZTE root code (*983*7668#) then go into Superuser and update the binary. Ta-Da! You have root.

Lost me at installing superuser with file manager. Isnt superuser an app I have downloaded from Playstore?

I tried updating the binary from the most recent update, and it did nothing. Unless you push an existing su binary to the system, then update, you're gonna wind up stuck.

After I installed Superuser and update fixer, I tapped "check for updates" in the app. It went from shell root to root root. I hope that was the right process. Forgive the ignorance.

I did the same thing, Motorhead. It said I had root access after the dialer code and after Superuser gave me root root. Thats why I didnt see the need for Superuser app.
