Awesome!!

Bought a nook at best buy tonight and rooted it within 15 minutes and all i have to say is AWESOME!! Coming from a china clone irobot running android 1.5 I'm astonished how well and snappy this runs. Angry birds and a few others and they are running pretty smooth. The rooting process was so simple its not funny. For the price the nook is a beautiful steal...:D

I'm with ya! :D

I had originally purchased two Coby Kyros Tablets for Christmas for my kids (9 and 6 yrs old). The Kyros tablets were JUNK! Then, I exchanged them for the Archos 7 Home Tablets for my kids. I have an Archos 70 and loved it so I thought the 7HT would be good enough right? Wrong.

When you compare the $200 tablets with a $250 NOOKcolor, there is NO comparison. The NOOKcolor is a quality device. Once you root it, remap the hardware keys, and about 5 other "necessary" hacks...it's a decent tablet! And the build quality is top notch!

My kids are much happier! My wife is happier too cause I sold her on the idea of doing tablets for them cause I touted their e-reader capabilities. The Kyros tablets were just too junky to keep, the Archos 7 HT had a too outdated version of android (v. 1.5) so there was no support for the nook or kindle apps.

So the kids can game it up with Angry Birds and read books from multiple sources. And I have another tablet to play around with. Life is good! :D

What five hacks do you have installed? I installed Launcherpro, esfile manager, astro file explorer and app installer.

Those aren't really hacks. I have things done like:

- Enabling Android Market (depending on the root process you used...this may be done already).
- Remapped the Vol+ key to act as a physical home button, Vol- key acts as the menu button.
- Multitouch enabled on default apps
- Enabled "sideloading" of apps (not allowed by default).
- Setting up a new launcher (not really a hack but needed). I went with Launcher Pro but have been using Zeam Launcher and am much happier with it on this particular device)

And to do most of these...you have to have ADB installed and configured properly.

Maybe not a huge amount of things...but getting root and the market is just the beginning of things you can do to improve this device.
