Root Backup and Rom files

I am trying to organize my files (backups and roms) for my triumph. I have quite a few files that Im not sure if they are backups or roms and Im not sure if they are from CM7 or CM9. I was hoping someone could help me shed some light on this. I have files like these (2012-03-06.19.11.59, 2012-02-15.18.56.39 ), are these backups then?? And also, is there a way to tell if its from CM7 or CM9? Thinking that these were backups, Ive tried a restore and Ive had it say MD5 mismatch. I made sure there were no spaces in the file name as I know this would cause a issue. Also, in CWM, when I click on restore, it takes me to backup/CM7 or CM9/ Ill have two backup files in say, CM7, but it doesnt show the two files, it goes to try to restore, then it says MD5 mismatch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, thank you guys for all the hard work you have put forth on these roms.

Another question, I noticed when I installed CM9, that google automatically installed all of my apps in my google account. Can I get CM7 to do this also, or is this just exclusive for CM9?? Thanks again.

They look to be nandroid backups. If it were a flashable ROM zip it would be named differently. Without restoring them, there is no way to tell what they are. I believe the backups cannot be in a sub-folder, but they need to be in clockworkmod/backup.

Ok, thanks, I will try it in that folder. Also, if I try to restore a backup thats from another rom, it wont do any damage right, it just wont restore then??

If you restore a backup from another ROM it will restore that ROM. Not necessarily doing damage, but you will lose anything you didn't backup beforehand.

Ok, also, do you know why I am getting a MD5 mismatch. I have made sure the file contains no spaces. Would it be that I had the file in the wrong place, like you suggested above.

And when reply to a comment made in a earlier post, how do I copy the part of text that I want to include in my post. I have seen others do that on here but havent figured out how to do that. Thanks

The file could be corrupted or has been changed after the backup was made.

cm7 should restore some apps. I have noticed that some of my apps will get restored others won't. It seems inconsistent so I'm not complety sure.

Thanks, I just always added .cm7 or .miui or the like to the end and kept them in the same folder. That's good to know. :)

If I keep these file in CWM/backup/CM7 or CM9, will CWM find it when I do a restore then. Its seems when I had multiple backup files in say, CM7, it wouldnt give me the choice to pick between the two files. It would just try to restore. Then I would get a MD5 mismatch.

Ok, I have an update on my issue. I was on CM9. I did a backup a few minutes ago. Then a wipe/factory reset. The I tried to restore with the file I just backed up under CWM/backup/CM9/my file. Its saying MD5 mismatch. I didnt change the file or anything. All I did was move the file into CM9 folder from backup folder when it backed up. Can someone shed some light on whats going on?? Am I doing something wrong??

It is possible that the file is corrupt. MD5 is used to check data integrity. If the information has changed somehow (through corruption, some name changes, adding/deleting things from the file, etc) it will come back as a mismatch. MD5 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One thing I should mention, I have been moving files back and forth from my phone to my pc. I dont open them with my pc, just move them. Would this have anything to do with it?? Also, when I restore, I havent been doing factory reset, or clearing the caches. Is that correct??

If that is the case, how am I corrupting every backup I do?? Its not just this file, its every file I have, I have tried to restore and it keeps saying MD5 mismatch??

Ok, I moved my latest backup from the CM9 folder into the backup folder. Tried retoring and it appears to be restoring. I have tried restoring in the CM9 folder, just on the sd card (no folder). It appears that the file has to be in CWM/backup folder only. I havent tried the other backups I have yet, but Im assuming since this works, the other will too.. Thanks for your help.

Don't know what version you're using, but
this does not work with CWM v5.0.2.7.
You can select a sub-folder, but cannot navigate to any back up within it. It will just try to restore the folder and return a MD5 mismatch. This is the same whether the folder contains one or multiple backups, or is completely empty.
The files can be renamed and moved all around without a MD5 mismatch, but must be returned to the backup folder for CWM to restore them.

I realized that when tried to restore. Finally discovered that the backup file has to be in the backup folder (and yes, I am running 5.0.2.7). Thanks for confirming this.

I am using recovery-cwm-5.0.2.6-triumph

I almost changed to CWM v5.0.2.7 a few days ago, I am glad I didn't.
I would really miss my back-up folders ;)

Just saw this thread and thought I'd chime-in with a little info that might help you guys:

1. The typical reason why you get an MD5 mismatch error in custom recovery is because the md5sum command (or function, depending on the version of CWM you have) simply cannot find the nandroid.md5 file (and therefore the files referenced in it). So, instead of telling you that it can't find the file, it reports an MD5 mismatch...

This typically happens because the path to the ClockworkMod backup directory cannot be traversed, either because the backup directory name contains wonky characters (spaces, special characters, etc.) or the backup directories are not in the simple /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup directory structure.

2. You can manually verify your Nandroid backup off-line using an md5sum -c nandroid.md5 (i.e., when your local shell's directory is changed to the location of the Nandroid backup files) from either your PC, directly on your phone, or via an adb shell. This is exactly what ClockworkMod custom recovery does.

Additionally, my AFV app has a "Verify Nandroid Backup" function (and its equivalent "md5sum -c Type Check" function) that allows you to manually verify your Nandroid backups on your phone.

3. Lastly, there's a cool utility app called Yaffs Explorer that will allow you navigate through various system.img files (or even system.ext4.tar files or data.img, etc.) from your Nandroid backup. That might help you find things in your Nandroid backup that helps you identify its version, etc.

Hope that helps :).

Cheers!
