my laptop has windows XP so i went ahead with the installation of the HBOOT USB thing for windows pc. and then before on my very first attempt to root i did the install of the HTC sync and ten i proceeded to uninstalling it, just to get the drivers... but now when i try to root with this new mthod. i keep on getting this error onthe one click root

"Validation Error: Backup CID is missing"

i did some search on google for some info on he problem but no one steps up to give a solution. i really would like to finally root this evo, can anyone help me please

Another problem with unrevoked, lol. I rooted 2 evos, my first had to be warrantied out bc of charging port issues. Second came with 2.2 and i did the downgrade simple root method. I had a few issues with unrevoked with my first evo. There are great guides how do do this, and it is what i recommend since it will give you a greater idea about your phone than the 1 click unrevoked.

This will get you started if you want to try another way

You should contact the unrevoked team via twitter. If you look, someone had the exact same error, and the dev team was really interested about it... Maybe they know how to fix it now. Here's the convo on twitter:

# @unrevoked Sadly I sit on "Waiting for device" on OSX 10.6.4 6:53 AM Sep 15th via web in reply to unrevoked

# @unrevoked and "Validation error: Backup CID is missing" on Windows 7 ... 7:40 AM Sep 15th via Tweetie for Mac

@NakkiNyan Send us a DM with your phone model, version, and carrier... that's very interesting. Thursday, September 16, 2010 2:10:40 AM via web

# @unrevoked Can't DM without you following. Evo 4G, Froyo x.6, Sprint but off contract (and supposedly bad ESN) just a toy. 4:31 PM Sep 16th via Tweetie for Mac in reply to unrevoked

hello Android Forums
i keep on getting this error on the one click root

"Validation Error: Backup CID is missing"

Same here. Just tried rooting my HTC Desire 2.2 and all looked OK until it eventually stopped at that CID message. Thankfully, the phone still works but the rooting hasn't been successful.

I don't use Twitter, but it seems that is the only way to contact the developers.

I had a problem with my rooted EVO (USB/charging port stopped working) and was given a new/refurb phone under the HTC warranty.

I tried to root the new phone as soon as I got it home, using unrEVOked, but got this same error.

Anyone found a resolution yet?

ROB

I've googled this error, and it looks like a lot of people have had the error message pop up. I just haven't found any resolution yet.

Can anyone tell me what a "backup CID" is?

If your new phone was shipped out with software version 3.30xxxx and hboot 2.02 unrevoked will not work yet.

That's not the case with my new (refurb) phone. It's got HBOOT 0.97.0000, which is the old one, and should work, right? I'm really frustrated, I want my root back!

...and my software is 3.29.651.5

That should be ok with unrevoked, right? I guess I'll need to try another method. What are the other options?

Thanks!

Your good to go with unrevoked! I have the very same set up. Sometimes unrevoked doesn't work on the first try. It took me 2 times running it.

I wish! I keep getting this same error. I've tried on two different computers. I wish I knew what this error means!

Are using windows based computers? If so have you tried reinstalling the drivers? There is something preventing you so now I guess its time to trouble shoot

I've tried reloading the drivers. That didn't help. Yes, these are both windows machines. Unrevoked "sees" the phone, and begins the process. After rebooting the phone, it gives the error message.

which hboot do these phones have? someone recently posted up older software..but the new hboot
My phone has the HBOOT 97, which is supposed to be supported, I thought...

Thanks for the responses guys, even if it serves no other purpose at this point than the bump this thread, hopefully someone who has successfully dealt with this error will eventually see it and I can get my wireless tether back!

So I just did some research on Google regarding the missing Cid. What I found doesn't look so good. Apparently there have been numerous problems with the missing Cid and unrevoked on almost all supported devices. From what I read the devs over at unrevoked are aware and it will be fixed on the next release. I guess the problem lies with how the misc partition on the phone is set up causing unrevoked to think cid is missing. For the evo the only fix I found was to search Google for unrevoked 2 which I guess was a test build. People say they had success but like I said it was a test build. I would wait lol.

Thanks so much for looking into it for me. Hopefully unrevoked will have a new release soon.

I think I read some of the same things you did (I did google it first), but didn't understand some of the lingo. I still have no clue what a "CID" is, but I guess I'll just take your word that I have to wait. :(

Thanks again!

yeah I am lost on the issue...the few times I had seen it in the past folks just kept running unrevoked until it worked...no more than 5 tries
