Help Bad Micro-USB charging port. Insurance claim or new phone?

Last night my phone would no longer start charging. I was using the original charger. I also have my old blackberry one's in the car and at work. None of them work now. I've never had a problem or anything until now and have owned this phone since January 2012. I tried all the tips I found in the forum, cleaning, bending, and whatnot. Sometimes I can get it to charge if I pull the plug back out just a little bit. However, when connected to the computer Windows complains the USB device has failed or something along those lines.

I have insurance on the phone, so now I'm trying to decide if I should pay the $65 deductible or just go get something else. I noticed the Galaxy Rush is on-sale at Radio Shack for $79 right now. The LG Venice is also tempting. I'm not interested in a ZTE.

I wonder if I make an insurance claim what phone they will send me? I was actually planning on canceling the insurance the next time I added money to my account because the STU was so cheap now ($99 on Boost's website.) I would rather pay $99 for a new phone, than $65 for a refurb. It's just not worth carrying the insurance on this phone anymore.. it's weird how it failed now while I was thinking about that. Looking back I wish I had bought the extended warranty from Best Buy now instead of paying for the insurance. *sigh* But I have been paying for it so...

I'm not sure what to do here and am looking for advice from other STU users who have used other Boost Android phones. This is the only one I have used.
 
Kinda surprised your insurance covers a breakdown - that's more warranty territory.

If it does, they will replace the phone with the same model.

Personally, for an additional $40, I'd go for a new phone.

My Ultra started doing the same thing, then switched to thinking I was rapidly plugging and unplugging the charge cable when I tried a few of the suggestions for the charging/not charging issue. Odd thing was, while it didn't say it was charging, the battery stats did show that the battery power had increased.

In the end, I went with a new phone, because I didn't want to pay the deductible ($100 for me) and risk getting something with the same issues, as well as I didn't want a refurb (no matter how new they make it look, a refurb always feels off - to me, anyway).
 
Lol as much as ZTE sucks, the sequent is quite alright. Same specs at the ultra just bigger screen and better ram as well as the 2 camera's. Its running ICS and is suppose to be getting jb 4.1 in the coming weeks and now we 3 jellybean 4.2 roms booting with only 3 or 4 issues but very good for enough for daily use. You head over to the lg Venice side of the forums they don't even have recovery on that poor little locked boot loader that lg put it. People complain about battery drain freezing etc. So if you want Dev support don't even bother looking at the venice. If your still not interested in zte I would suggest you go with the rush, 4.1 jb and its basically a Lil upgrade to the ultra for a good damn price too. Dev supports looks way more promising for it than it is for the Venice.
 
So far I like it. Sense is much different though so it's taking some getting used to. 4G seems pretty quick even though I only have 2 bars. I'll have to test it somewhere with better sig strength but I just got 7174kbps down and 3965kbps upload. :)
 
You could have tried bending the pin up inside the Transform Ultra, I've only had to do it twice on my phone but it has always fixed it anytime there's been charging issues.

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I tried it and it let me plug in the phone once or twice but that was it. When I tried bending it some more then the phone wouldn't even power up! Bent it back and now it at least turns on again. I have an external charger since I have 3 batteries but ended up buying a new phone anyway.
 
Mydian hows the sv coming along.....the development any good....i sometimes browse upon it but there forum doeant seem to be as friendly as ours
 
There appears to be some but I haven't messed with any of that yet. I saw some custom kernels, cwm recovery, and a few roms. I guess not bad considering how new the phone is.
