Root Baked Snacks 1.8

4G and WiFi both work fine on 1.8. I am sure it does on 1.7 as well.

I initially had some issues, after I donated, getting into the member's forum at BakedSnackShack.com. A couple of emails to hero_over (baked's dev) solved the issues for me, and I was in there pretty quickly.

As previously stated, he's not charging money or requiring donations for access to the rom or kernel. Bakedsnack 1.8 and kernel #6, from my understanding, are pre-release for donators only. Sort of like they do with fresh rom. The donation gets you access to the member's forum where there is direct support for the rom from the dev.

Part of the "perceived" secrecy comes from two things:
1) Baked's dev, Hero_Over, has had a lot of issues with XDA. I don't know much of the details surrounding the drama over there, but suffice it to say that Hero and XDA are not on good terms right now.
2) Bakedsnackshack's policy is that if someone leaks roms, they receive a permanent ban.

Also, their forum host recently changed up some things, and huoter and hero are sort of behind the 8ball.
It really is a good rom, though, and worth the $5 donation to get access to direct support and early access to the rom. This is my first custom rom, and I couldn't be happier that my rooting has gone so smoothly.

I'll make my way over to the shack and let hero and huoter know that people here are still having problems getting into the member's area. Hopefully that helps.

Yaa I actually just donated 10 bucks over to them because I figure that their site has ALL the answers and would rather go right to the source to get the facts. Plus I'm sure the people over there work their asses off and for things to leak would just suck..

I sent another email to huoter on the behalf of members here who are having problems after their donation. I hope he responds to you.

By the way, if it makes any difference for you to donate and support this awesome dev:

The member forum there has downloads to a baked AOSP rom. Members will also get Bakedsnack 1.9, out real soon. And sometime this month, they are releasing a "super secret project" that they've been working on and are real excited about.

I'm just trying to say, be kinda patient with these guys. They are working out some kinks in their forum at the same time as working on a bunch of Baked treats. Looks like it will be well worth it.

yaa this will be my first change pretty much and don't really know much about bakedsnacks everything but figured the site would know best and donating $5+ isn't a big deal for the help, and on their site somewhere does it show screen shots of changes from stock?

Rooted with unrEVOked 3 so im pretty sure that will be good for everything?

aznmode has a youtube video of baked snack 1.7 but I haven't seen much difference visually. The dock bar looks a little different than stock and the battery life indicator in the notification bar is circular but it basically looks like Sense...

Sorry for the confusion but I'm running Launcher Pro and LP Plus. That's why I have a different dock and app drawer. Also using Weather Toggle and Widget for my clock and weather. I prefer LP over Sense because of more customization and smoother transition. The circular battery meter is part of Baked rom.

that's right i just donated .. sorry to ruin the site.

when adding new ROM does it wipe everything out?

I realized after I posted that there might be a bit of confusion. The dock bar that is part of the Baked ROM is slightly different from the stock Sense dock. It's that semi-circular bar with the phone in the center, the app drawer arrow on the left and I can't remember what on the right.

I ran Sense in Snacks 1.8 for awhile but just recently went back to Launcher Pro Plus because I like to customize my dock. I'm not noticing any real speed difference between running LP versus Sense.

I ran unrevoked, and it was all good. So easy, I can't believe it took me so long to commit.
Screenies are pretty lacking across the board for roms in my opinion. As stated, you get the circle battery indicator, which is pretty cool. Other than that, bakedsnack is a sense based rom with a modded launcher bar at the bottom, which is semi-transparent. A lot of things are transparent, too.

I'm running launcherpro also. Maybe in a little bit, I'll go back to "stock" and post up a screenie.

I switched back to Sense for a sec to grab a screen.

I dont notice any significant speed difference either between sense and LP but the smoother transition from an app back to home is great. Also if you want to speed that up you can use spare parts and go to Basic Spareparts settings and change Window animations, and Transition animations to a higher number.

Adding rom as in flashing rom? You can flash a rom without wiping and it wont delete anything but it will overwrite some system files and essentially will cause problems. So it is best to do a complete wipe so you dont run into any issues.

yaa that's what i meant.

Well, Festo beat me to it, but here's mine. This is pretty much how the rom comes, except that I changed the wallpaper so you could see the launcher bar at bottom.

Ha! I don't throw stones, I live in a glass house. (I don't really know what that means) I'm just trying to drum up some love for Hero and the baked treats.

im thinking about trying this one out, im on fresh 3.3, i am hesitant because i cant download the #6 kernel, and for some reason the link for the radio isnt working either so i cant download and flash that. also i am would like to know if anyone out there can tell me if it really is necessary to flash the #6 kernel for it to work well. thanks.

I am running 1.8 with Kernel#6. I got 1.8 from the baked Snack website and after reading every page of the download forum I found that it came with #6 by default but 1.8 gives "access" to the OTA kernal if you want it. With that said I am getting really good battery on 1.8 without set CPU, juice defender or any other hocus pocus. when not in use I am getting 1% an hour battery drain, and I have exchange server set up to deliver emails as received, facebook every updates every hour. Also note I have a 3000 ebay battery.

sweet so pretty much the same as stock?

Yea. Its hard to see in my shot, see festo's above, but the launcher on bottom is transparent. I can't figure out how to get my shot bigger.
But yea, I didn't do any customizing for that shot 'cept the wallpaper.
Pretty much how I would describe it is stock sense tweaked.

Cool thanks alot guys you all have helped out a ton, but for the main questions what is the biggest advantage to switching?

There are some tweaks to the rom. One if which is removing bloatware from Sprint that you dont really need. Nascar, FM radio, and a few others. Also you get more room for apps to install compared to stock. Video recording imrovements. Tweaks for better internet speed. There is a long list in the forum and xda link below. So you are probably better of going to the link and reading. But for me the biggest advantage is in the kernel. See kernel #6 info also in the xda thread.

Ok so does this mean now you will not honor my donation and give me access to your forum and dl's? If so ok but it has been 3 days several emails and request and still not able to get in. So would you really expect me to be excited about that. I am an IT person and luv to test and play. I live on the cutting edge just so i know what is the latest greatest.

hey guys. Im super sorry about people having delayed account access. I honestly must have missed them in my emails or some requests are not being sent to me. please understand i am very dedicated to the site and ensuring everyone is happy. i guess the registration is sometimes wacky so here is the *proper* way to register.

After you made your donation, go ahead and register on the forum part of the website. once registered you will receive an email asking for and email confirmation. Once you click on that link it will say registration complete. On that page their will be a link to the Baked Snack forum on the top left. Click on that and you will be prompted to send a request. In that request state the email address you donated with and send it. Usually I will authorize you within minutes. But if I am sleeping I may not get it until the morning.
