Banned?

His no-posting probation apparently occurred following his participation in that thread.

that was my thought also but look at how long ago this thread was started and also he has more posts in that Racism... thread as of yesterday...

so unless it is a thing that comes in and out then it isn't an actual ban?

edit: i read where the mods said they do temp bands

also his ban was still showing under his name right after his post?

This thread we're in now was begun following an earlier in the year banning of Iowa, not the banning being talked about now, as the thread was revived by Eyebeam for the new banning.

oh i got cha, soooo i think i just missed it (read through it again just to make sure) how is IOWA still making posts though on "no-posting probation"?

What seems to have caused some of the confusion about posts appearing with time stamps later than the time stamps of the offending posts, is that those offending posts were likely not brought to the attention of the staff until Iowa had participated in other areas of the forums.

Hey, that's why I linked to the post where the pics started flying. Don't put your wasted half hour on me, pal! :D

ITS YOUR FAULT!!! jk
From reading it it seems he was PM'ing dude some shit also. Most likely that is what got him banned. Also that is deff a time delay you see being represented. Example; if i were to flame someone right now then after the mods catch it then EVERY post i have made anywhere would reflect my banning, even ones i made months ago

More than once it has been pointed out by staff that most sanctions are issued after a bit of PM dialog between mods; that takes time.

The "zero tolerance" policy is quite clear, but sometimes the thing that puts the user over the tolerance level is arrived at by volume of poor posting choices along with one or two particular really bad posts, I'm thinking.

That means we'll see junk from the person for a while before there's enough to cause a loss of privileges or a banning.

OTD was not a mod when she started this thread, and actually does a great job in her new found role. She strikes a good balance between wielding her mod power, and just being a "common" member. AND, Iowa is in my opinion, one of the most controversial members on this site. He pushes buttons in hot topics all the time. It is difficult not to be curious as to why he was hit with the ban hammer.....

I think Iowa has a ecentric personality that really shows in his posts. I don't mind that not everyone is just like me. On the other hand I'm actually surprised that "other" members are still members they are just plain mean and do not contribute in any way shape or form.

Hey, I totally agree with you, dude. I don't agree with a lot of what Iowa says, but I am sure my opinion isn't always agreed with either. I like a good debate as much as anybody, and even if it is off the wall, it is usually a good read when topics get heated around here.... I think that sometimes it really must be hard to police these threads fairly and I truly believe the mods do a great job at a thankless task.

EDIT

I also meant to say that Iowa does contribute useful info, too. He definitely isn't just some troll starting fights everywhere he goes... It may seem so, because he is always hanging out in the hot button threads.

Indeed IOWA posts some very useful information at times. He never, ever starts a troll thread but can't resist wading in if he finds one. :D

It's really entertaining when he does so it's a shame and a bit harsh that he is now on his 3rd ban to my knowledge.

I had no idea Iowa was banned again?

I think he is a pretty cool guy, I'd never want to get into a debate or argument with him but i appreciate the times he has came to my defense over pointless arguments i have gotten into.

He seems to be very passionate about what he believes and thinks is right and I respect a person who has no problem speaking their mind and expressing themselves and who do not allow others to push them around

I have had members messaging me telling me i should be banned and blah blah blah but ehhh

Here is the thread i am referring to

Why would ppl want to ban you? i mean from all your posts since i have been here have never been anything but nice and unoffensive. ... even when people hit on you non stop.

But also i think that ppl that go out of their way to start a fight are just no good. Now wether he is meaning to start fights or if that is just how he is idk... guess we wouldn't really know until he joins this thread and tells us :)

Alternate accounts. We call em PBM's( Previously Banned Members) on another forum I frequent. I don't think they can stop anyone from viewing the forums, but IP's can be traced to prevent alternate accounts. With the amount of internet available nowadays that may be tough though.

As to why this is still being discussed: I find this thread more interesting and entertaining that the zillion 2.1 threads.

The only problem with that is when more than 1 member of a household uses that same PC/IP address.

Oh my. This thread is interesting.

Or people like me, who have well over 50 IP address's.

And yeah, those pictures were funny. Honestly, I got tired of arguing with some guy across the pond about my disclosure of the truth or not, so I decided to make a joke out of it. And those pics were funny =D.

Welcome back Iowa! Pics were funny

He is Back! thats funny five posts ago i was just thinking when he was going to join his own thread... lol anyways

so question @ IOWA, truthfully do you like to start fights or is that just usually how people take what you give them?

I invite anyone/everyone to look up my post history. I *generally* never start any of the arguments, some people just don't like being corrected. B(some people even following me into threads and calling me a liar/names, pitiful really. )being a smartass doesn't help much though, but that's how I am. And the rest of my family >.>

I especially love the people that despite all the facts I post, science, research, they say "all that doesn't matter."

Somehow they believe their opinion is more reliable than stone cold fact, and despite their failures to invalidate those facts, they persist none the less.

I'd say the biggest reason some people don't like me, is I'll call their BS when I see it, and don't hold punches when proving them wrong. I guess it hurts their e-ego or something. In fact, that nice little write up of mine comparing cdma vs gsm, was spawned due to an argument by people clueless in the matter yet arguing like they worked for nokia's engineering deparrtment for ten years without any solid fact to stand on.

I don't know why you were banned, if you were, but might I suggest for the purpose of good and welfare that you have a grossly overinflated opinion of the value/validity of some of your posts, and that you tend to get a tad defensive when your posits are disputed?

It's hard to like/respect someone who works too hard at coming across as a know-it-all.

A little gentle humor goes a long way, eh? :D

Once a point of contention has been reached, and there appears to be no compromise on either side of a discussed issue, then it is probably best to break off the dialog in the best interest of the forums:

Point made > opposing views expressed > points not modifiable in the minds of each participant > discussion no longer productive > discussion over.

When we do that, we're also likely doing something that is in the best interest of our own account here. ;)

I think you're bang on here - while I might not always agree with your point of view, I do respect the way you call people on their crap, and you always try to provide more than just opinion. A lot of people don't like being called out on their bull.

Who said I was working at all? Some people are just smarter than you.

Now you hold something against people with a higher intellect than you? Why would you find it hard to repect someone who have you bested in the brain pan? Jealous much? If someone is better than you at something, don't hate them, learn from them.
