[Battery] Complaints and Problems

I use a battery app but I consider myself as getting pretty good battery life. But, yesterday I ran it dead. I was on the phone untill the battery was dead and cut itself off. I waited a few mins and put in on the charger. Waited 15 mins and cut the phone back on and it was at 25%, so I watched the LED light, it turned green in 1 hour. I woke the screen up and sure enough the battery widget said 100%. I unpluged it, turned the phone off and pluged it back up. It took 1 more hour before the LED turned back green. So it took 2 hours total to charge from fully dead. But, IDK why the green LED was on but after I cut the phone off took another hour to turn the light green again. Anyway after the light was green I turned it back on and unpluged it. That was yesterday afternoon. I was texting, listening to police scanner app, downloading from the market, browsing the internet, using google maps, watching videos, took a couple pictures, sleep for 6 hours threw the night, and still got 21 hours before it went completely dead again.

Consider yourself lucky. I think the best I've got so far was about 15 hours. That was with maybe 2 hours of phone conversations, maybe 50 text messages max. 10 minutes of YouTube, maybe 10 minutes of browsing the internet and the market.

Guess that's not too bad though. However still will be getting extended battery.

I love my Incredible to death... We all know that the battery isn't the greatest but I think I 'got issues'.....

I unplugged my phone at 12pm it's 2:43pm EST and my battery widget is showing 52%....

2h 13min since unplugged....
Cell Standby - 26%
Phone Idle - 26%
Android System - 24%
Wi-Fi - 11%
Dialer 4%
Display 4%
Voice Calls 3%
Engadget 2%

Uptime - 2:16:01
Awake - 2:16:14

kgreenel's Apps on the phone

When I unplugged at 12 I checked & deleted email & messages....
I feel asleep at b/t 12-1 and wasnt using the phone... I took a 5 min phone call around 2.....

How do I figure out what the problem is??? I work from home most of the time, but I fell like that if I'm going somewhere for an entire day I'll be SCREWED!

Something isn't allowing my phone to sleep... It doesnt even sleep when I'm sleep....

Good idea, I'm taking all suggestions... I don't even really use Flickr..... I checked it's settings and it's update frequency is once a day and it synced at 12:33pm....

And the battery life is pretty awesome. I have never had a smart phone that did stand by as well as this one.

I have had wifi on while I have been home and turned mobile internet on when I went out (probably only about 6 of the last 30 hours) I made a couple phone calls, sent a couple texts and checked my email

I am at 1 day, and almost 6 hours with 60% battery left.

Heres the reasoning behind this:

Li-Ion batteries, when they reach a certain charge level ( around 70-90% depending on the battery ) will hold a steady voltage, and as the battery fills up the current will slowly drop. When that current reaches 0, the battery is declared full.

However, if the device is still on, it uses some of that power. So, the battery may be receiving 0 charge, but that is because the phone is "stealing" a portion to use. Most people haven't noticed it before, because most things use so little power while charging. ( and people normally turn laptops off anyways. )

Turning the phone off allows all of the charge to go to the battery, so you get a true full charge.

That's what did it. Even on my relatively dumb phone the Voyager, or further back the vx8600...2 hours of talking would take a serious chunk of battery. I don't know if there is anything to improve that or not ( never really looked. I usually only talk about 30 mins every day or 2....lots of text though, lol )

Oh, and I'm with you. I can easily make it through the day on this battery if I want...but I want to go crazy on it. Soon as the 2150 comes out I'm getting it. ( I'm fine with a little extra thickness, just not the crazy amount of a 3200 or whatever. )

Hello all. I recently bought a battery and charger combination off eBay:

1
Li-ion Battery+Desktop Charger For HTC Droid Incredible - eBay (item 270569842940 end time May-26-10 06:01:02 PDT)

The seller [based in Hong Kong] says this battery is designed for the Sprint HTC Hero but will work in the Incredible. The battery is labeled as Model Number RHOD160, 1500mAh.

I received this charger and battery yesterday; the battery fits perfectly in the Incredible and the case snaps back on with no "gaps". A couple of observations:

1. After charging the battery using the accompanying charger, I snapped it into my Incredible and plugged in the charger that came with the Incredible. The charging light on my Incredible turned green after only a few seconds, indicating that the aftermarket charger had done a pretty complete job of charging the battery... avoiding the charge/unplug/charge situation mentioned elsewhere.

2. I unplugged my Incredible from its charger at 9:00pm last night, it is now 17.5 hours later and the Darshan Battery Indicator app is showing 60%. This is after light but continuous use all day.

Your mileage may vary, just thought I'd toss in my $ .02.

Wow, that's a great price! Think I'll hold off a while and see if yours blows up. Please keep us informed :D

Well, I received my TP2 Battery yesterday and all I can say is that it's night and day compared to the OEM Battery. It really seems like I have double the battery life and I haven't even cycled this through yet.

If you're running AIM it might not let it sleep. I read comments on the AIM page about battery draining. I don't use that app myself though, I use Meebo which also drains the battery.

Ok on this charge i again plugged the phone up while on and charged till the LED was green and the battery app said 100%. but left the phone on and made a couple of text without cutting off the phone and putting back on the charger. within a 10 min conversation via text, something like 15 texts, the battery dropped to 84%. there is no way this thing is charging anywhere near 100% if charged while the phone is still on.

EDIT: Just noticed you have BatteryLife installed. I've read in a number of spots this has been causing problems on various INCs. Reguardless if it is causing the immediate problem, it seems to eat battery life itself...so I'de recommend uninstalling that.

Also, really REALLY consider clearing that out a bit...That's a lot of apps! I don't know most of them, so can't really say anything except: If you use Google Goggles, your battery will kill you in your sleep:)

Unfortunately, to figure out what the actual culprit is, you will have to simply go 1 by 1 shutting things down. It most likely won't be an update that's causing it, as those sleep fine. The issue will be a program that is sort of stuck awake and can't go to sleep: Only solution is actually closing it.

Go to Menu->Settings-> Applications->Manage Applications.
Press Menu->Filter->Running.
This will show only things that are running.

Just go down the list ( Don't kill anything important like Android System! ) ONE at a time.
Click the program and scroll down to "Force Stop" and press it, then press OK.

Now, go check your awake time...and while looking at it press the power button. Write the time down or something so you don't forget it btw. Wait about 5-10 mins and wake the phone up. The awake time should only change by seconds, if it has gone up 5-10 mins or so...keep trying. ( You might need to do this with services also. Some have had the Obex service be the problem. )

It seems that pretty much anything can hang from what I've seen so far....and we haven't found a sign that points to which one is the problem yet.

I know it sucks, and is a pain: But your other option is to do a factory reset, and hope that it doesn't come back ( and I think you will agree that is far worse. ) Simply removing all 3rd part apps may or may not work, as some stock stuff can lock up too. Absolutely no clue what the cause is yet.

What kind of time awake and up time were you getting before, and now?

You can see my above reply to one of your other posts on why this happens. Theres not really anything mysterious or anything going on, no bug, glitch or problem. It's normal behavior.

I used Advanced Task Killer Free....it only gives you non-android processes running. You can pick them individually what you want to kill and see what helps by checking the battery awake time. I found that the FM Radio and my Lock Screen were killing my battery.

Good Lawd, there's a lot of crap running....Stuff that I haven't used in DAYS!!! Why is Skype always running?? I'm uninstalling it.... I wanted the convenience of having it installed for when I want to use it but it's always running...

Uptime 3:53
Awake 3:53

be back in 5 minutes......

FM Radio was running as well....... I haven't used it since FRIDAY!!! I have ATK Paid (carried over from my Eris), but uninstalled b/c I was trying to be all organic and letting android run how it's supposed to run....

I don't recommend users that don't know the ins and outs of Android download any task killers though, as they tend to cause quite a few problems if they are not held in control. I strongly recommend sticking with the stock method of killing tasks.

Ok, I'm back

Uptime - 4:04
Awake - 3:56

Better.... She's plugged in now... Poor baby was down to 35%....... Got a 2 minute nap.. Now I have to figure out which app was causing the problem.....

I hear that. I had a Voyager prior to getting this phone, and using the phone killed the battery big time. I ended up getting an extended battery for it and never had any issues with it after that. I could go a few days without charging it which was nice.

I hope extended battery for the Inc will pull that off as well. Not like I'm on the phone constantly, but I like to know if I need to use the phone for extended periods of time, I don't have to worry about running to a charger.

I used Spare Parts to figure out what had my awake and up time running exactly the same today. I went to battery history and then partial wake and found out it was that concert finder app Alice. The minute I uninstalled that everything went back to normal. It was the top drain on my battery over everything else! So try that and see what you find.

Wow. You got lucky:) Usually it is something simple like calendar that hangs, and it won't register on the usage.

@Mskgreenel : Hopefully she keeps being able to sleep, and GL with it!
