[Battery] Complaints and Problems

You were able to pin point the problem app with spare parts?? I'll give it whirl....
My appbrain is getting shorter...

You can see my above reply to one of your other posts on why this happens. Theres not really anything mysterious or anything going on, no bug, glitch or problem. It's normal behavior.

Ok so you are telling me if I charge the phone while on I will only get 50% of its total capacity? There is nothing that is running that will cause that much drain for it to think it is charged when on. I know how batteries work. And I have NEVER experienced this much of a differance before. Sure maybe 5% longer life if i charge to full while off. but not dropping 26% after 10 mins of usage of texting. The phone is not charging anywhere near full while on. I can charge from fully dead to full charge while on in 1 hour? but then if i turn the phone off and charge it takes another full hour to reach 100%? Thats 2 hours total. If I charge from dead to 100% while the phone is off it takes about 2.5 hours. There is something not right with the battery monitor software on the phone. I will uninstall the widget I am using and try again. Maybe this is causing the problem.

Using spare parts, it looks like my calendar app is keeping my phone awake the most. How do I remedy this? Thanks

Settings>Applications>Manage applications>scroll down to Calendar and Force stop.

I was having the same troubles where my phone was not sleeping and this did the trick. My battery is much much better :)

My calendar is always running too, but I have the widget on one of my screens. Will force closing just be pointless then? Once I go to view that widget it would start back up again right?

Ughhh, I opened my big mouth and mentioned this to my friend who works at VZW... He told me to re-install ATK.... He claims he wrote the code for it so that's his answer for everything.
I also have a calendar widget on one of my screens. It sucks that widgets seem to kill the battery.... It's like we have all this fun stuff available but you can't use it if you want your to last....

Check this post from marabuchi which howarmat mentioned up above (but to expand on things a little more):

Basically, some users have found that Flickr and the Calendar don't mix. So recommendation (which I have done and Uptime/Awake is great as is battery) is to go to Settings>Accounts & Sync>Flickr and Remove Account. Reboot phone, and see how things are.

People have then readded Flickr but unchecked the Sync buttons and still been fine after reboot.

Anyway, try that and see how things go.

There is an issue but not eveyone has it so they keep saying there is no issue. I got sick of listening to it so i started to ignore them. If you read all the threads there is obviously an issue and I can confirm and back it up %100.

There is no reason why some days i get 10 hours with NO use before it dies completely and then after cahrging it while the phone is off i get over 30 hours with some usage.

There is an issue just not everyone has it. Unfortunately I do :(

For everyone who says people are just expecting too much, you are wrong so please get that out of your head. A lot of us are coming from similar phones like iphone and its not even close to how bad the incredible is with regards to battery. There is a charging issue for starters but the problems dont end there. HTC really needs to fix these issues before they have a lot of returned incredibles on their hands. Ill be waiting it out for a fix since this phone is so awesome. :)

Amen :)

I really like the incredible, don't use it like mad, but the battery won't last a day.

On the charger at night, 100% in the AM (8-9ish) and she's gone by 11pm.

Seems to be getting worse too.

Today, off the charger at 9, hardly used it today, even shut off bluetooth, it's now not quite 7pm and it's showing 37% left.

Any one else with kind of sucky battery life on it or have I got something defective?

This was one of my biggest complaints about the Razr too.

thats actually pretty descent batterylife compared to what some get.

Mine dies after 10 hours with no use. there are been a big range of what peopel get from their batteries. Some people have reported barely getting 6 hours with medim usage and some people get 30 hours with some usage.

search the forum and you will find some hints to help

LOL...That sounds good to me!

Maybe restart the phone before you go to bed each night, that way there are no apps running and it gets a good charge. I do that just out of habit from my Storm heh.

Load Astro File Manager from the Market and run the process manager. It tells you what apps are using the processor by percentage. Kill anything thats using the processor in the background.

There's an issue, but not a wide spread issue like some posters are claiming it to be. Even then, some of those with battery issues fixed their problems using the tips others have presented. Every new technology will have a small minority that having trouble with their device. Remember when the Iphone 3g first came out, there were some who had theirs get really warn and some even caught on fire. That was an issue also. But it's just a small minority. No one actually thinks the Iphone is a fire hazard.

There are tons of threads in this forum about battery issues. But that's because it is forum where people come to get answers. If I google Iphone 3Gs and battery problems, I'll get a dozen threads saying the same thing. You just got to look at the big picture.

I'm not saying the battery on the Incredible is great. All I'm saying is, there's no reason you can't a good days worth with the incredible's battery. If you can't, it may just mean you got a bad battery and not an issue with the phone.

Going into setting and shutting off "enable always on mobile network" saves quite a bit. Shutting off mobile network saves even more. I am at 13 hrs right now unplugged with 50%. Mobile network was off almost all day along with BT and Wifi. Turned both on about an hour ago. Should last til 11 when I go to bed. I probably sent 100 texts today, made 10 minutes worth of calls, very little internet use.

I love my Incredible to death... We all know that the battery isn't the greatest but I think I 'got issues'.....

I unplugged my phone at 12pm it's 2:43pm EST and my battery widget is showing 52%....

2h 13min since unplugged....
Cell Standby - 26%
Phone Idle - 26%
Android System - 24%
Wi-Fi - 11%
Dialer 4%
Display 4%
Voice Calls 3%
Engadget 2%

Uptime - 2:16:01
Awake - 2:16:14

kgreenel's Apps on the phone

When I unplugged at 12 I checked & deleted email & messages....
I feel asleep at b/t 12-1 and wasnt using the phone... I took a 5 min phone call around 2.....

How do I figure out what the problem is??? I work from home most of the time, but I fell like that if I'm going somewhere for an entire day I'll be SCREWED!

Something isn't allowing my phone to sleep... It doesnt even sleep when I'm sleep....

Can someone tell me what phone idle is? what's the difference between that and cell standby?

I agree its a new phone and thats why I am waiting for a fix for it. Its actaully not the battery I have a freind that has the seido and he actually got worse battery life then i did until he went throught hte steps of turning the phone off after it is charged and then let it charge another 30 minutes.

This is an issue with the phone for sure. I wiped mine out and did not go through setup or install any apps and i got the same performance as i did with all my apps installed.

The workaround is good enough for me because there is no way in heck I am getting rid of this phone :) and I am confident the issue will get resolved either through a update or phone replacement.

Could you refresh my memory as to how that affects the phone? Like what won't work because it's shut off? :)

This setting lets the 3G mobile data go to sleep after a while when your screen goes off. Different people have had mixed results, but in my exp anything that needs to sync while your screen is off aka asleep will not sync on it's own....you have to do a manual refresh which is fine for some. My push gmail does not push when this setting is off, my pandora cut's off, and my YouMail visual voice mail will not sync until I wake my phone.

It would be nice if there was a certain (edit - as in positively accurate) way to determine which app(s) keep the phone awake when they shouldn't.

My up time is currently at 30 hours, awake time at 1:40, and battery at 70%, probably going on 60% - I don't have the battery life widget installed. I have not taken any battery saving measures, ie. "Enable always-on mobile" is checked as is "Background data", and GPS is enabled. I have my gmail account set up to sync the calendar and contacts, and the HTC mail app set up to grab my gmail via activesync "as they arrive", and IMAP for my Yahoo mail.

But yesterday was a different story. Everything was running fine, with numbers like above, but at some point I did something that caused it to stay awake continuously. As best I can remember, I used bluetooth on the phone, and turned it back off when finished. I listened to Slacker. Also the FM radio and turned it off when finished. bTunes as well, and used "Exit" to leave that app. The grand total time of usage with all music items above was probably 45 minutes. Oh and I also plugged it into the computer so that I could copy some MP3 files to it.

So today I haven't done any of those things and I haven't had any problems. Tomorrow I will start one by one and pay attention to what happens with my awake time. But this could be more difficult to track than by using my method. That's why an app like "spare parts" that is certain to track apps that keep the phone awake would be useful until the bugs are worked out.

Edit - I should point out that yesterday when it would no longer sleep, I did a battery pull.
