Help Battery discussions, maintaining battery life

If you had a rogue app, or an app with a bad installation or something, you may have something under the hood tangled now.

I recommend MyBackup Pro (paid app) along with a free SMS backup, and then factory data reset (be sure to reset Wallet from within the app before you do).

So even if you have to replace the phone, the backup may pay for itself in saved time.

No guarantee, but a good strategy.

After some soul searching I made the switch to the GS3. It's noticeably faster, noticeably better battery life, and thus far appears to have stronger radios (though I may have had a bunk device). Missing the kick stand, dedicated camera button, a noticeably nicer screen (I can see those stipid little pixels on the GS3 like on the Photon) and Sense. But other than that the GS3 trumps thus far, and the folks at Samsung had the common sense to put the power button (on such a large screen) on the side and the charging port on the bottom.

I've had my phone for about 2 weeks now and it hasn't died once.. I have it on Wifi when at home because it helps save battery. I Don't use very many widgets, I'm using the stock sense homescreen.. play games, text, internet, movies, and hasn't died once. I'm very impressed, compared to the OG EVO (with extended battery), which died all the time.

That's odd because my original OGEvo had pretty good battery life, then someone broke my window and stole it and my replacement one had good battery life as well (By good I mean pull it off the charger in the morning, use it moderately throughout the day, and need to charge it in the early evening).

Yea I can go about 3 days on a full charge,

Suddenly, my beloved HTC EVO LTE starts to drain its battery and the phone is warm to touch. I looked under settings, power to see what is using the battery, and the highest percentage is "android Services". I rebooted the phone twice: simple reboot and long press power button. I had to plug in the charger to get through one day. This is the first time this happened!

Any ideas at to the problem (and solution)?

Thanks!

My battery wasn't plugged in over night like usual but it was in the middle to high 90's and all it did was sit and it went off and my alarm never went off. I just woke up. And my phone was turned off. Mine says 78% screen 10% this desktop plus I had open maybe my screen somehow stayed on and I didn't know it. I always plug it in but last night I didn't.

Tap your battery graph and get your history details.. It will show you if your screen was on and when.. Awake wifi charging etc.. Post a screen shot also

I forgot you can do that it's probably too late now I've been out and the phones been on most of the day with me. I just won't take any chances anymore and make sure it's plugged in all the time at night.

The one thing I can see from your screen shot, is that your Wi-FI is on 100% of the time, searching for a Wi-Fi Signal. I use Juice Defender (paid app for Wi-Fi Location) that learns where I use my Wi-Fi like at home or work, and then turns off Wi-Fi when I am not at either location. When I get home or to work, it turns on Wi-Fi. I also use a free program called Sentry that can be set to turn on Wi-Fi when the screen comes on, and then wait 10 or 15 seconds for a connection and if there is not a connection available, it turns off Wi-Fi.

Edit: I also use BetterBatteryStats from the play store, that shows exactly what is using battery life.

I think my stock browser is going haywire. Can anyone chime in?

I tried using Chrome but it doesn't seem to help however.

Anyway that "Internet" bar seems to be awfully high, especially since I only used the internet on this phone for about 35 minutes on the train first thing this morning (the first big dip). After that, the entire dropping of battery life happened while in stand-by sitting on my desk at work. I'm not sure why "Wifi" is a solid bar as I haven't been connected to a wifi connection since early this morning. Is it because the radio is on?

Well, long story short, with much less use than the first few days (for obvious reasons, I was very excited to play with it) I am getting about half the battery life. While I am at around 44% right now, I was probably closer to 80% at this point during the day just a month ago. This seems to be a daily problem now and I have to put the phone on the charger at work just to get through another 35 minute train ride home. What is causing my phone to go from 100% to 10% over the course of a day when only about 1-2 hours of the 12 hours it's actually being used?

There also are apps/widgets that automatically turn on/off WiFi when in WiFi range: such as Auto WiFi Enabler and Auto WiFi On/Off. I also have 'Mobile Network' turned on and it connects to 3G when WiFi is not available. With this setup, my battery goes down 1-3% per hour depending on how much I use the phone.

I do that I have 3G on and when there's no wifi it knows and when I am at work on wifi my mobile network is disconnected. But I usually turn of my mobile network signal sucks in my work and I think it helps some. I need to get easy battery saver I think it was someone recommended.

I read information about the upcoming LG Optimus which included information the standard cellphone battery life is approximately 500 charges, and the Optimus' is approximately 800 charges due to an improved battery. Since the LTEvo's battery is not end user changeable, and since a two year service contract is more than 500 days (assuming daily charges), how will LTEvo owners have their batteries changed/serviced? (This ignores the fact that more efficient/powerful after market batteries sometimes become available to replace original batteries.)

Check the teardown thread and see post 11 that I put up... The battery is easier to get to than you may know :-)

Somehow some functionary moved the posting about battery replacement issues for the LTEvo non-consumer changeable battery, to this somewhat unrelated thread. I guess both threads involve batteries, BUT fixed battery issues are not the same a conserving juice per se.

Well, to further answer your question.. Servicing the battery will be quite easy.. The battery is not soldierd in and is easy to access.. The going price right now is 25 bucks at etradesupply.com ( note that they are currently out of stock) I know I know.. You will be voiding your warranty probably by taking it apart.. But we're talking far into the future near the end of our contracts and close to renewal. So i doubt anyone would even have a warranty still. I was asking myself the same question ;). "non servicable" batteries scare me... That's why when I bought a tablet I bought the Toshiba thrive :D

After I long press the power button to effect the equivalent to battery pull, the reset drains the battery about 4%. Why the significant battery drain?

Could also be because the battery reading is just an estimate based on usage.

When starting up its going to use more power than sitting there, so usage would be higher

Hi everyone, Since the latest update, my battery have been awesome. As of right now the phone have been on for 71 hrs and still have 34% left. I'm not a heavy user, only a moderate.

Teach us your ways! On meanrom4.4 I'm getting around 15hrs which is unheard of for me. I'm more than happy with that.

I probably use my phone too much though... Lol
