Are you able to replicate this same issue?

So I am testing this out and can also repeat it. I am seeing that my Handcent SMS seems to be very high on partial wake usage. Anyone else having problems with this?

Someone else reported this last week too. That was the thread that got me looking at this issue here.

I don't know. I still don't see a Galaxy S discussion of the exact issue we are talking about here.

I'll test this tonight and we'll have our definitive answer as to whether the Vibrant has the same bug. I kind of thought I did test when this came up and it didn't have the issue, but I'm not certain I did it.

Ok. I tested on my Vibrant and it does not have the bug. But, there's one part of the test that might question it's validity. I do have the issue where the gps doesn't get a lock. The GPS does activate though so I don't think it would matter. I still haven't seen a real discussion for another phone with the same bug. If someone can point one out, we can look at it, if not, let's just continue on as if it's a motorola issue.

The page that was linked to earlier didn't really make it seem to me that out was the same issue at all.

the one thing that ive been seeing alot lately is when put on charge. i use the multi media pod i dont knwo if thats a cause of it ccause it plugs in the hdmi. but when i pull it off, push sleep wait for a few mins and check the meters its tacked at 100%. makes me wonder if its something above the gps too, mind that i have the weather widget off of it when its in multimedia mode. so that dont come on and nothing is using the gps(so i dont think, correct me if im thinking wrong lol thats why im here). so yea......tbc

wow great guys i could go tho the day with my battery, but now i can go longer i just did the same test and it never slept like you all said. thanks for the tip i hope they fix this bug so i could leave gps on i use it alot

I replicated this problem as well (no surprise). I can confirm that creating tasker profiles that turn on GPS for apps that need them and turn it off again when the apps close _does_ seem to work, though I haven't done extensive testing yet. Alternatively, you could just create a tasker profile to shut GPS off every so often, but then you'd have to manually turn it on for each app.

Thanks OP, this was a great catch.

Same issue here - thanks for the heads up. But I am not sure how to fix it? The only thing I use GPS for is navigation really. So after I use navigation I need to reboot my phone? I had been manually turning off GPS but it still was running at 100% - thanks

No just cycle the GPS off (and back on again if you wish) and that is enough. A reboot isn't necessary.

This bug is not limited to GPS...

My DX WiFi was doing the exact same thing. While WiFi was On 100%, it was also Running 100%. Tried rebooting... didn't fix a thing.

After toggling WiFi Off, then back On, waited 5 min... WiFi On 97%, WiFi Running 91%.

I used the Moto widgets to toggle.

I wonder if more apps, services are not exiting properly.....sounds like it could be a memory leak?

I voted in the poll and just wanted to add that I have and have replicated the exact same issue! We need a fix. It's so annoying knowing my phone won't sleep and why. I hate not being able to use everything the way we're supposed to be.

it doesn't matter if you leave it on or off after you toggle it...

it seems that as soon as you manually turn of the gps it kills whatever script is still running in the background (no matter if you turn it back on or leave it off)...

that being said, ANYTIME the gps is then accessed afterwards, the "evil" script comes back on so you have to toggle the gps again...

for now i'm just leaving my gps off...i'm getting much better battery life...it sucks that something that should automatically work doesn't but i'm really fine with for now just manually adjusting the gps when i need it...

I have found that just "Turning it off" does not correct the problem. So, Is the Toggling part crucial? I have to test that next. IE. OFF, ON, Then off if you want to turn it off.

I have, on Two seperate occassions, turned off GPS and it did not go to sleep.

Turning off GPS fixes it for myself and others have reported that as well.

.
I'd suggest you start a new thread as this appears to be an entirely different issue. My guess is you still had something else running that was masking this problem. Try your issue with a fresh reboot, but let's not confuse the issue at hand here.

While we are waiting for our issue to get fixed here, does anyone have any real/valid ways to really see what kind of a battery hit we are taking? The only thing I can really think of is charge the phone to 100% and wait until it dies and then charge again to 100%, create the gps issue, then wait until it dies. Or just do each test for 6 or 8 hours. If the problem is great enough, that should expose a difference. We'd need a few different people running the same test a couple of times each to create a valid result, I think.

I had the GPS sleep issue even before I installed Facebook. So I know it's not that, at least not for me.

Seriously, you guys should go talk to the people in the Samsung Galaxy(i7500) forums, since they have the same gps - no sleep issue that we have
Now that i updated my FB, it does Not Sleep. So, Yes, i had the same issues with GPS in the pass, NOW, if i run FB, it will not sleep (unless you cycle GPS). IE. Even if GPS is off, and i go to FB. it will not sleep. If i Cycle GPS (in my case ON then OFF), it will sleep..

So, is there a program that will cycle the GPS automatically when the screen turns off?

I wish I had seen this thread yesterday! I have been having terrible battery issues the last 3-4 days.... fully charged, sits for 3-4 hours and when I pick it up again it's at 30% or less! I did see mention of FB causing the problem - and this only started for me once I updated to the newest (supposedly fixed) version just a few days ago.

However, my DX died last night and am now waiting for a new one to be shipped. Had I seen this yesterday I surely would have done some inspecting/research to see where the culprit may lie! Once the new one arrives I will surely be doing some checking to see just what is going on with my battery & will watch for this problem again.

Thanks for all of the info!

kapstone..I see the same. Toggling does not prevent running 100% for me. Only a reboot seems to work.

hmmm...not good to hear...i still cant get it to not run at 100% unless i reboot - tried everything. I may call Verizon tomorrow. Have you had any luck
