Battery Life Experience

One improvement that's much appreciated:
Charging time.

Mine had somewhere in the mid-high 30% range,out-of-the-box.

As someone who switches phones frequently, I like to keep the accessories unopened/intact in the original packaging, to help overall value in case of a sale.

Anyhoo, when JUMPING from the G2 to the M8 earlier today, the clerk was only interested in the phone & couldn't care less about the accessories,or, the box & instruction booklets for that matter.

So, I took her up on the generosity,& am using the G2 charger (1.8A,I believe) & cord.

Only took 1.5hrs to charge from 30% to 100%,a noticeable improvement over the M7.
With the improvement in battery life + quicker charge times, I'll definitely be foregoing the usual charging case this time around.

Seriously? This morning when I woke up I grabbed my phone to check the time, and it was only at 60%, and I remember it being about 18% when I plugged it in. It had been charging since around 1, which is when I went to sleep. I'm using the charger that came with the phone along with a cable I already had, not the one that came in the box with the phone. Maybe that's it?

Well,a couple things:

I have no idea what time you got up this morning. :p

Is it possible someone was using your phone during your snoozefest?
Was this a one-time/1st time charging the phone?

Anyhoo,if this has been a problem on a daily basis, try a different charger, similar in spec w/the OEM charger.

If the slow charging persists,a call to HTC,or,a visit to the point of purchase is in order.

Well, I woke up at around 8, so it was at least 7 hours on the charger. I don't think anyone was using my phone unless my roommate sneaked into my room and used it haha. It has a locked screen so I'm not really worried about her getting into it. This is only my second time charging it; the first time I went to sleep about the same time and left on it for about the same amount of time and it was fully charged by the time I woke up.

Based on using the wall charger (vs USB Charging via PC),if it's taking much longer than 3 hrs to charge from near zero to a full charge,I'd definitely try a different charger.

If slow charging persists w/a comparable charger,I'd request an exchange for a new phone,as this is the 1st instance I've seen/heard of a slow charge time w/the M8.

The cable you use can effect the ability of the phone to charge at a faster rate. This is caused by the active pins on the cable you are using. To check this you can plug in the cable, and go into settings >power and while plugged in it should say "Charging (AC)" If it is saying "Charging (USB)" you have a cheap 2 conductor cable that is designed for data only and is limiting the charge rage to 500ma, vs the capability of the charger which is 1.5A, greatly reducing the charging speed of the device.

Initially I thought the battery life was lacking. After a few charges, I feel like that battery life has gotten much, much better. In the first few days, it lasted about a day on moderate use. Now with moderate to heavier use I can go almost a full 48 hours. Granted, I've always used Power Saving mode from day one. Dunno how long it would last without it.

I did give it a bit of thought as to whether or not the cable would have anything to do with it. The first time I charged it and everything was fine, I used a cable that came with the xperia I had, and that worked fine. The reason I switched cables last night is because the one I used last night is way longer so gives me more movement freedom. I'll use the same one tonight and see if it still doesn't charge all the way overnight. If it doesn't, then I'll switch to the one that came in the box and see what happens.

As for battery life, I am having no problems using the phone throughout the day. No need to carry cables or chargers with me since the only time I need to charge my phone is when I'm ready to go to sleep. I like it.

I may have posted already but even if I did, it's a week since getting my M8 so I'll discuss. The charging time is still extremely fast, I can go from 0% to 100% in about an hour and a half. The battery doesn't last AS LONG while using heavily as it did the first full day I was using it. After 25 minutes of Game of Thrones via HBO Go my battery decreased about 12% or so, it had already gone down about 5% since I'd woken up just checking emails and Facebook. And then I left and came to work, and have woken the screen up maybe 9 or 10 times for a minute at a time each, and I'm at 69%, so streaming video so far is the fastest thing that kills my battery, but my GS3 was so shot (I replaced the batteries frequently) it would have decreased over 30-40% streaming HBO Go.

This is the first phone I've had that had a good battery life. As I frequently use my phone for torrenting and streaming either music or videos I've always had to charge three to four times a day (when I had the first EVO it got to the point where I'd just leave it charging in a portable battery when in use because that was awful battery life from day 1) and now I'm at two times a day IF I have lots of free time to watch stuff. And I've been making sure to let the battery get pretty low before charging, and to not overcharge it. Hopefully this awesome battery life continues at least 9 or 10 months before getting bad.

Useless stat for the day:
My un-activated M8 that has mostly not been used except to show a few people and mess around with a few things (very low on screen time) has remarkably lasted longer than 8d 6h 3m 15s on one charge.
No Power Saver modes configured or turned on

Not sure what I did but I my battery has been draining faster the last few days. I noticed in battery history that the "awake" row is constantly green all day. I don't think it was doing that before. It shouldn't be a solid green bar all day, right?

edit: I think it's this fitbit app. I setup an account just to see what it had to offer. I just checked the app and under permissions>show more, one of the things listed is Affects Battery - prevents phone from sleeping.

So, is anyone using this app, and if so is your "awake" bar in battery history constantly green?

You need to install GSAM BATTERY MONITOR to determine the app causing the problem. Sort it by power used and it will tell you the apps that consume the most battery power. If you think it's a particular app, uninstall it.

i like the fact that i can leave the device when i go to sleep with say 60% and if in flight mode when i get up it still has the same :-)

I'm pretty pleased with the battery life so far, coming from a 3100mah.

Mine is great.

Here's 9 hours up, 3.5 hours with the screen on near max, and only using 45%.

If I could stop plugging in to transfer root tools I'd find out how long it could really go.

It certainly depends on the cell signal but if it's decent, I'm looking at 6 to 8 hours screen on time over an 18 hour day with no babysitting.

I turned off Bluetooth and NFC, turned on GPS and haven't looked back.

This thing is outstanding! :)

Yes but I didn't debloat anything or play any tricks.

I've got Blinkfeed loaded with all sorts of stuff, running it as an activity shortcut in Nova (thank you SolApathy!) and I'm using the Sense lockscreen because I love the wake up gestures. Tap-tap lol.

I have an Exchange ActiveSync account running (so that's a push) and I'm syncing 8 Exchange calendars every 15 minutes.

Weather updates every 3 hours unless I look at it.

Location services with GPS is on.

Running the HK sound mod + Viper4Android audio.

And - Viper rom. :)

PS - no Sprint Connection Optimizer and the two other power savers are turned OFF.

Diggin' the BLINKFEED?
It was one of the main features that brought me back after the M7.

Battery life is awesome, noticeably better than the M7.
No compromises here either,I run everything available (except NFC,totally useless IMHO,YMMV) no battery saver settings & make it through a typical workday w/50%+ remaining.

Back in Sense 1, HTC had a great news app. Ever since I've been adrift going from app to app.

I'm way digging the Blinkfeed. And I like it even better as a traditional app launch.

Were you able to extract the apk,or,is it defunct/non-functional outside of Sense1?

I just used SolApathy's trick linked in the general M8 forum FAQ. :)

No apk extraction required or contemplated - no question it's a part of Sense, no need to try otherwise.

Trick is to collapse the Sense browser down to just the Blinkfeed page, use Nova launcher, and make a Nova shortcut to the Sense launcher. There's your app. :)

Viper is a Sense rom and I could just simply run the Sense launcher - and I did try that for several days. Until I saw Sol's tip. Nova is just that much better.

Viper is a great rom with great battery life.

I do that w/BLINKFEED,I was referring to the old news app in SENSE 1 (sorry for the lack of clarity, should be calling it a day now).........

I still use an old GOOGLE NEWS apk ,especially on the non-HTC devices,it's a decent substitute.

Ah, got it.

No, they change the interfaces from version to version, you can get away with that sometimes for a revision or two, then it's done.

Four years ago I hated Sense Footprints because it was a bloated battery killer. They did away with it. Now with the new tech, I'd like to have it back. No soap trying to get that one to run.
