I have the Samsung Prevail with the new Shabbymod .7 which is absolutely awesome.
I just read a review of the phone and it said this.. The device is said to last for 6.50 hours of talk time and 216 hours of standby time, which is pretty good.
Which doesn't even come close to what I get.. It is dying after 8-10 hours of idle time after being full charged should I look into getting a new one. Every time I forget the phone in my pocket and wake up the next morning it is dead... I have chargers at work, home and the car one to avoid it dying but it is just a pain.
I have GPS turned off but I usually leave wireless turned on since it is the only way I can get anything on it when I am home.. Sprint reception kinda sucks down here..
Thanks
My Prevail is "stock", with the March 2012 OTA Android 2.3.6 update.
By combining all of the battery saving tips I have read on Android Forums, and elsewhere, I can get 24 hours per charge with moderate use and up to 48 hours with light use.
I use the "Power Widget" that comes with the Prevail to turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Synch. I use the free "Data Switch" widget to turn off 3G. I manually turn off "locations" and "Google Maps". I set the screen brightness at about 20% indoors.
The Prevail works fine for phone calls and texts with all of those apps turned off. Two or three times a day, I turn on either Wi-Fi or 3G to download my Gmail and check news headlines and weather. When I am done, I turn them off, and then use the Prevail's Task Manager to do a "level 2" memory clear, which closes any apps running in the background.
Using the Task Manager to do a "level 2" memory clear also makes it possible for apps to open quickly and work rapidly without the Prevail ever "freezing". A "level 2" clear drops RAM use to below 150mb. When the Prevail's RAM use gets above 220mb (due to numerous apps running in the background) the battery drains rapidly, apps are slow to open, and some apps will crash or freeze up.
When I first got my Prevail, my "default" mode was to have all functions turned on, thinking that it would be inconvenient to have to turn on 3G, GPS, and "Google Maps" to use Google Navigation the five or ten minutes a week that is typical for me. And, with all functions turned on, I was lucky to get 12 hours per charge.
So, now I charge at 10 p.m. at night, and 24 hours later, I still have a 40% to 60% charge remaining. All it takes is the willingness to take ten or fifteen seconds to turn on apps only when they are needed and ten or fifteen seconds to turn them back off when you are finished.
One BIG exception: this tips have no impact on what happens when you begin using "Google Navigation" or are watching VEVO videos using 3G. Those high drain functions will run your battery to zero in about two hours. For high drain functions, have your charger handy.
By the way, clearing internal memory is helpful to the Prevail's overall quality of operation. When my internal memory had less than about 20mb free, I was unable to download new apps, and some apps were freezing up because they could not open an adequate size memory cache.
I deleted apps that I don't use every day, uninstalled the updates from the apps that can't be removed, turned off the Google Market's "automatic update" function, and moved every app that can be moved over to the SD card. I now have 60MB of open internal memory, and all of my apps open quickly, and work quickly and well.
