Battery Life

Just bought battery #3. Now I have 3 batteries in rotation, giving me ample power to max out my screen brightness all the time, stream music on Slacker, surf the web and talk all I want and not have to worry about having enough battery left at the end of the day.

I learned long ago that carrying Motorola product means having at least 1 extra battery on hand. Now that we use our phones not only for voice, but to surf the web, stream music and video, play mp3s and games, and have very attractive displays at full brightness, I'm not surprised that one - even two - extra batteries are not enough for me.

I thought about doing that too, but when I'm out hiking I will need the GPS on for the whole time. Changing batteries really isn't an option, unfortunately.

Fadelight, you are asking questions that a bunch of phone geeks can't answer...we don't hike...we are inside all day sitting a cpu with a phone! lol

lol aww come on... no need to be a hiker. Just the ability to turn your gps on and leave it until your phone dies, then tell me how long it took.


That solar charger would be pretty sweet, and I am definitely bookmarking it, but it wouldn't serve my purpose for day trips. that would be more for 3 day hikes and such.

Well this thread is very confusing as the OP says he left his phone alone until it died. Then said while running gps on. So this is not a battery test for people but to me seems this is a test for fadelights own benefit as he wants a better battery life for hiking or for gps location so people know where he is. I mean thats cool and all but don't take this as this is going to be your battery life as this thread makes you think if you dont touch your phone it will die in under 40 hours. I think the OP and thread name should be changed to correct any confusion.

Here's mine with between 20 to 30 percent left. Died about 11 hours later.

I see what you did there. You are running together pretty much every post I ever made in this thread and assuming it is all the same test. Different posts = different events. Try to keep them separated.

The first test WAS with leaving my phone completely alone until the battery died.

The next post you referred to was when the discussion started up about what constitutes "heavy usage" and how long everyones battery lasts under those circumstances. That is the point where I mentioned that I usually run my GPS the whole night while I am at work.

Which brings us to the hiking bit, as I am sure you can see I did specify "at work" at that point. My last post you made reference to was made last night in which I talked about options for extended batteries when charging is not an option and you NEED to run something such as GPS for long periods of time.


Feel free to join in on the conversation and add anything you see fit to add... but just make sure you are keeping various events separated as you do so.


And as for changing the OP and title... absolutely not. You are the only one confusing the posts.

Off topic... No i don't play Urt. It means army of two. I am a forza player more then anything . Back to topic don't think i was attacking you in any ways. If your rooted i would try led hack for turning off the bottom led. Helps a notch with battery life if your the kind that keeps the screen on while not plugged in. Also i like sometimes not seeing them bottom home,menu keys lit up when watching a movie or just playing a game. If you use led hack make sure to go to settings and uncheck top led to make sure your light notification comes in.

Nah, I didn't think you were attacking me. Just wanted to make sure you knew what was what. The thread is more or less just a catch-all for comparing batteries, battery life, what apps drain how much, etc.

I'm really interested to see what kind of battery life the extended battery gets with full and constant GPS use, but I have a feeling I'm going to end up buying one in order to find out.

I was having some issues with my battery life and called Verizon. The tech had me use my advance task killer to kill all running apps right before I went to bed. The night before last, I did this and had 60% battery left. I did not have any apps running and did not have GPS, wifi, or Bluetooth turned on. When I woke up about 8 hours later, my phone was dead. I took it to Verizon and the tech immediately said that it was my battery. He pulled my battery and showed me that there was a small lump in it. He said that when the battery goes bad, something in it bursts and creates the lump. He gave me a new battery and I charged it fully yesterday at about 1400. I have not plugged it in since and have been using my phone somewhat heavily. I am only down to 70% battery and its been 20 hours.

I just got my phone two months ago. I must've had a bad battery from the get-go.

Wow Kratos, if that's the case then I've had a bad battery as well. Lol at least I hope Verizon sees it that way. I'm going to Verizon on Friday to get a Droid for my Bro, I'm going to ask them to look at my battery as well. Really, the goal is to get a new battery.
