Battery Life

My battery life is TERRIBLE. I start with 100%, drive to class listening to a podcast: down to low 90%.
Surf a bit in two classes, down to low 70%.
Use navigator for 20 minutes, drive home after two classes, closing in on 50%.

That's 100% to 50 percent in four or five hours, with the phone mostly being unused. No games, no videos. Just podcasts on low volume, small amount of navigation, no phone calls...

That gives me 1/4 or 1/3 of a day with the terrible battery life.

Extended battery, you can't come soon enough!!!

In my experience, every "activity" will drain the battery a few percentages.

Open up google maps to do a search, lose 3%.
Download a podcast, lose 2%.
Download class schedule, lose 2%.
Make a phone call...

That means if you do about 40 things/"activities" in one day, your phone is dead.
To me, that is not good battery life.

The original iBook had a good battery life.

The iPad has great battery life. This phone is simply not below average.

Edit to add: The amount of times I've busted my phone open, battery here, battery cover over there...why??? Because I got out to put gas in my car, and I HAVE to keep the damn thing charging all the damn time, and I forgot it was out of my pocket with a cacophony of headphone and power chords tying me down like Japanese rope bondage!

My Samsung Admire was usable with the 2400mAH, but I had to charge it a little bit if I had a long work day as well. For those who use their phone for nav, music, and a bit of internet, it's probably a 1/3 to 1/2 day phone. I'll be doing some battery extending research in the meantime. I did download memory killer, but of course I've read opposing views on that sort of thing.

Your phone has a defective battery!

It could be; I could be misunderestimating my actual usage; or maybe doing those initial charge cycles really would have helped me...?
I do have the 1.5ghz btw.

The only program that ever should be running in the background is google listen for podcasts, which will drain it slightly.
I did install Adobe Flash, but I don't recall ever using a flash page while on mobile.

Initial charge cycles may have helped...just go to a metro store and tell them your battery dies faster than normal.

If I'm working, I'm listening to them all day. They'll download on 4g to the HD, but 50% of them are probably downloaded while charging.

[EDIT below resolved]:
I have installed two programs that I don't think are draining battery but I'm not sure. I uninstalled Barnacle yet my PC still sees the network. Am I constantly broadcasting wireless?

How do I prevent this if uninstalling, re-installing and stopping the service, uninstalling a second time doesn't do it?

I'm hoping that that's the problem but I don't really think it is...
Edit: another computer does not see the wireless network from my phone. So I doubt it is being broadcast but it's probably cached on the computer than can see it (this computer will list the network even when phone is in airplane mode). So wireless broadcasting shouldn't be a problem.
On my phone I toggle GPS, and leave blutooth, wireless off.

Also, I realized my approximation doesn't take into account power saver, which I would leave on always but only has the option to come on at 50%.

Your phone has a defective battery!

That's what I'm thinking as well. I have 1.5 hours on screen time, 6.5 hours idle time and it is dead. That 1.5hours is only 25mins of Chrome, a little email, and I let the girlfriend's kid watch half a movie. Since other people seem to be getting at least 2.5-3 hours on screen time I think it might be a battery issue. edit: screen brightness is at 35%

so who else is having battery issues that are completely stock?

everyone is pretty much stock root just gets rid of some of the other bloat the other bloat can be deleted without root. unless your using your phone constantly battery life is pretty good regardless root or not

I listened to music from the SD card for 6 hours and did a bit of texting and that took out 50 percent of my battery. The longest I've gone with one charge is 32 hours with light use. I always run two apps, Easy Battery Widget and Battery Monitor Widget to track battery consumption which probably takes some juice out too. I try to make sure my wifi, GPS are off if I'm not using them... except when I'm home so only my wifi is on.

You'll get to know your phone the more you use it. Speakerphone drains a chunk even with the screen off.

Apparently this is what's keeping me from deep sleep mode. Anyone know what this is and hope I can fix it?

You should also fully charge the phone, let it completely die and shutdown on its own and recharge completely while phone off to maximize the full life of the battery... for new phones of course

Myth.

Lithium ion batteries have no memory effect unlike older battery technologies. Your battery isn't gonna care about ritualistic charging methods. Quite contrary, completely depleting a li ion battery can actually have a negative impact on battery life. It will last you longer by plugging it in before a full discharge, say 30 to 40%. This is also why manufacturers recommend storing your battery at 40% if it won't be used for a long period of time.

The only benefit to fully discharging a li ion battery is to help calibrate your battery icon to match the battery's actual capacity. Which is unnecessary, it will calibrate itself over time anyways, even if you replace your stock battery with a larger extended one.
