Battery Life

Was just about to post literally the same thing

this is my first day of real heavy useage for me. So happy about the battery.

On light useage I'm charging every 2 days. Unbelievable, especially coming from my last phone that died after 6 hours light useage.

That is very decent!

What are your brightness settings? I'm running at around 50% set. I never did like auto.

I'm on auto.

I also have Google Now totally disabled. Never have and never will see the hype of it tbh. So that may add a bit more life to the battery.

Absolutely love this battery. I put it through it's paces yesterday these are the stats. Under normal useage, I'm left with 30 to 40 percent at the end of the day. Nice knowing what the limits are on this thing.

So I am having an issue with the having to reboot my phone about twice a day to keep it from draining the battery. It will randomly start to drain the battery 2 or 3% every 5-10 minutes. I checked and the Google play service in running under the running apps. I stop all of it, but it does not seem to help that much. It does not stop until I reboot the device. Is this normal, or do I have a bad unit?

Do you use location? I had this problem with Google Play services completely draining my battery, and I only use location for weather occasionally. So try either:

- Ensuring location settings are not on 'high accuracy' and just on battery saving mode

- turn location services off

Both those solutions have worked for me :)

Thanks man I will give a try

My battery life is going to be lower than most from just having bluetooth running all the time.

What ROM are you running Rx?

My WiFi and Bluetooth stay on and I get great mileage with FKU undervolted -50 Cataclysm ROM.
Location off, battery saving mode.
Im normally at about 60 by end of the day.
Cant show pic just took off the charger. Ill post tonight with details.

Only odd thing about my battery life is it will drop from %100 to %80 in about 2 hours. But then I can run Pandora constantly, browse the web and some gaming and I still have %40 6 hours later.

I think it's just bad at measuring battery capacity.

My bluetooth is always connected and is actively tethering to my Google glass when I'm out and about. It's quite the battery drain

I never manage to get much more than 2 hours on screen battery life. My phone's barely used since I'm at school for like 6 hours, I do keep it on during then though.

I'm using Franco's Kernel 14 as well and I haven't seen any change compared to the stock kernel! Have I got a faulty model or something?

I've also got the Battery Guru app installed. Still didn't improve once learning mode finished. It can get me through the day but I just wondered why I'm not getting anywhere near as much on screen time even though I'm a pretty light / moderate user

For a different perspective here are my findings.
I still have a few days with verizon contract but I received my N5 a few days ago. Since I haven't switched over yet, my N5 is not activated on a network. However, its rooted and I more or less mirrored it to my GN.

So for the last 4 days the N5 is:
-rooted
-no cell network
-wifi on 24/7
-bt on 24/7
-google back up Disabled
-running nova launcher
-google now enabled
-location on
-live wallpaper in use
-3 widgets

For the past 9 hours I haven't touched it. It was 100% charged last night when I unplugged and went to bed. Its now at 94% charged.

Using GSAM battery monitor. 30% of the battery use is reported from wifi. Interestingly 19% of battery use is from phone radio (seeking a network?).

Google play is near the top of the list of battery usage and has been every day. For the first few days it was way up on top with lots of wake locks. I use app ops to turn off location and wake. Play is no longer at the top but still demanding. After google play, the next set of apps that uses the most battery are the widgets and live wallpaper but not really significant though all of them added up does make a dent. One thing I realized from GSAM is that the widgets in my default launcher is also using up batteries so I went and removed those since I'm on nova most of the time.

Next I will restore tasker. I know that on the GN, tasker really eats up my battery. But the usefulness outweighs the battery drain. I'll do this on my N5 and see how it holds up.

I got the same issue. Google play services just eat my battery away. I have even turned the location setting off completely. The only way I have found to fix it. Is the reboot the phone.

You should try different kernels. For some reason Franco's kernel drains my battery so much. Once I switched to a different kernel my battery got way better. There are many kernels and Roms over at XDA forums you should check it out

Do you have any recommendations? Which one are you using now?

I'm gonna flash Paranoid Android once that comes out.

Do you have any opinions on faux's kernel? What would you say about the kernel you're currently testing? I just need something that gives me the battery life that I see everyone else getting on stock

How can I check? I thought all the battery monitoring apps would not work with KitKat. Google search seems to be the thing that keeps popping up on my battery stock app.

You need root to use the really detailed ones. Other than that, they work just fine.
