Help Battery problem Q/A thread.

Hi
I did a quick search but couldnt find any answers, i have just bought a S3 but im having massive problems with the battery, when im using the phone and surfing the net etc. the battery is very impressive, however when i put the phone on standby my battery seems to drain, i use more power say on half an hour standby than i do in half an hour of phone operation, cell standy is 56% surely this is not right, anyone else got these issues or know any fixes?
thanks

What do you mean you lose more power on half hour standby than half hour operation? I think you just don't know yet how to read the battery usage data. Cell standby 56% simply means that over the last few minutes, cell standby (antenna) used the greatest amount of power, which is normal. For example since I last charged, I left my phone on standby, and battery usage says cell standby used 56%. If I look at battery charge I see 10%. That means that 5.6% was used by the antenna.

I moved your post into our general battery thread. I hope this thread can help you with your issues.

Cell Standby is not draining your battery. At least not as much as it appears to be. Please read the link in my signature

Hi, I have a Galaxy S3, been using it for a week or so. It's my first Android Phone after switching from an iPhone 4.

I can't help but notice that my phone's battery keeps sapping itself even when I'm doing nothing.

I've turned off 3g, gps, blue tooth, but left wi-fi on. I turned off the whole syncing thing with email and facebook and other social media apps, and I also stopped as many apps as possible. Then I went to sleep. 7 hours later, the battery life dropped by 30+%.

Just now, I went out for 1 hour or so and did not bring my phone. Battery dropped by 10%. Is it my battery spoilt? I've got a spare one, which also behaves more or less the same. ***I've charged both batteries for 8 hours before I started using the phone for the first time***

Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance

I used to have alot of battery issues but it seems to be fixed. Currently on 44% after 9hours and 19min.
What I did was look at the Advanced Task Killer and I saw that S-voice opened itself up every time I killed selected apps. Since I don't use it I disabled the app altogether.

Also there appears to be a diffrence in between batteries. (I got a preorder package with an extra battery, charger etc.) After I drained the first one I went on to the second one and noticed the second one lasted longer than the original. So there might be something in that.

I also disabled the NFC android beam, S beam (why is this all on by default?) and other stuff I wasn't using.

And now the phone seems to be running for alot longer than before.
Hope there is some actual truth in this as opposed to simple coincidence.

How do you disable S Voice completely?

Also here's my battery usage:

Not sure how that measures up?

when I was an iphone user, i found out that even when I had 20% battery and I would not touch or charge the phone until the following morning...the battery would more or less drop 3-4-5% the most. With Android....at 30%...you might wake up the next morning with the phone completely switched off as a result of no battery. which sucks.

This happened to me recently where the battery was draining significantly when not in use. I uninstalled any apps I wasn't in need of, then rebooted the phone and this took care of it. However, I also installed Power Controls and Tasker from Play store, and now my battery life is as good as I can imagine or need it to be. I am averaging 5-6 hours of screen time per charge and roughly 1% per 2 hours when the screen is off and unused (slept ~6 hours last night and it went from 71 to 68% by the morning when I checked it as the alarm went off).

I can't recommend Tasker enough, I have set up profiles like Car Mode, Night Mode, Face Down, Power >25% and Flipboard (screen on when in Flipboard). As an example with Face Down, when I'm doing paperwork or reading and need to focus, I just turn the phone over and it turns off Bluetooth and Wifi (if they're on) and turns on Silent Mode in Vibrate. Saves battery like crazy by just turning the phone over as opposed to a bunch of buttons/shortcuts that are easy to forget.

The past 3-4 days my Exchange services has been killing my battery. Any ideas? Today I reduced my sync schedule, but it has been just as bad.

I'll answer my own question...

After a bit of Google-fu I discovered this is a "known issue" and the only solution is to remove your Exchange account and then re-add it.

I did that last night. Today, I was at 88% at lunch time and at 63% at 3:30pm. A huge improvement.
