i just noticed something in the recovery....there is an option that says wipe DATA : Battery Stats??? could you just do that when you want to reset the battery stats to get it accurate again instead of doing the whole thing with terminal emulator?

Yes you can, but make sure you have a full charge, wipe the stats, then boot normally. Give the piece a serious work over, and drain that biatch to 0, let it shut off. Fully recharge, then boot normally.

so after you've reset it you want to drain it all the way down so it shuts off by itself, then fully recharge it again correct? should the phone be off and charge it full or dont it matter?

yes that is correct. and yes leave it off until full then boot up.
