not posting data, but I made a very interesting discovery..
Like ALOT of you, I bought this phone to use ALL the features, and, I really wasnt interested in turning things on and off all day, whether I needed to use them or not..
But; I know how much power Bluetooth uses, and, since I only use bluetooth for streaming music in my car, and when I am using my BT headset to make calls, I thought I would try turning it off when I wasnt using it...there is a HTC Bluetooth Widget you can put on your home screen for ease of use, and, thats what I did..
Lo and Behold, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!
I had been losing AT LEAST 25% battery overnight, even though I had silent mode on, and didnt even look at the phone overnight, but, after turning off blue tooth, the last few days I have lost only 6% overnight!!
Plus, during the day, my rate of loss has definately slowed down from what it used to be...
I have left everything else as is, but just turned off blu tooth when I dont need it, which, is about 50% of the time..Try it, you'll like it!!!

I shut my phone off last night and let it charge up overnight. Just unplugged it and using BatteryTimeLite, I see the following for "availability":

Idle Time 373 hours
Talk Time 3.12 hours (or is that 3 hours, 12 minutes?)
Video 1.50 hours
Audio 3.29 hours
WebSurf 2.09 hours

I keep WiFi and 3G off, usually, unless *I* want to check/send email.

Everything except Talk Time seems reasonable to me. My old LG flipphone would produce more than five hours of talk talk, which I "tested" many times.

I suspect the "2150" battery supposedly out this week will bring me up to a potential of five hours of talk time.

Just posting to report in, since I've done a somewhat conclusive test over the last 12 hours.

First I drained the battery. I had never done that previously, and only did so for testing purposes. Then I charged it while on standby. Then I turned off the phone and plugged it back in to give it a maximum charge.

This also allowed me to use awake and uptime as measuring sticks.

My results are the following. The phone has been up for 12 hours. It is at 50 percent capacity. The awake time is just under 2 hours and 30 minutes.

I find this performance dissapointing. I would categorize my usage as moderate on average. This indicares that I can expect no more than 5 hours of productivity between charges.

Heya cheezy those are great results! 2 hrs 20 min with your screen on (do you use auto brightness? or what % if not?) with 100% cpu utilization clocked at 1 Ghz palying robo. Just imagine if you never played it at all....all that power going to less intensive tasks!!....I dig my SEIDIO and as I've said 1000 times I would buy one again in a heartbeat :)

Can you please go back and check the OPs post on posting your details ( currently post 3 ) and we can see if there might be anything that can be tweaked without you losing any functionality....but don't expect much. Sorry, but welcome to smart phones. The iPhone itself doesn't claim too awfully much more than this, and those claims are usually well beyond reality....NTM the Inc is probably about twice as powerful:)

It's just the nature of the beast. Same as a gaming laptop. Great for traveling...as long as theres an electrical outlet around.

OK, new to android and the Droid Incredible. Looking at the battery stats, I see an entry that says "cell standby" and "battery used by cell radio." Is this just referring to the juice required to keep the phone on in a standby mode? Not sure what "battery used by cell radio" refers to.

zemerick---Sorry said:
AMEN...people should quit whining about battery life..this is more like a mini computer than a cell phone, so how much battery life can you expect from it?

get an extra battery, carry a micro usb cable in your briefcase, and have a cig lighter charger in your car, and you'll be fine..

The first week I had the phone it only made it from 8 AM to about 4:00 pm with medium use. I think the reception at work has something to do with it.

This weekend I'm sick and at home, and it's lasting forever because I'm not using it at all (except to check the battery life as a curiosity).

bluetooth off
wifi on (but using 3g instead of wifi didn't make much difference)
mobile network always on set to on
sync: background data, auto sync on
background assistant, google, weather checked, facebook not checked

1d 4h 20m since unplugged

awake time: 2 hr 12 min

cell standby: 42%
phone idle: 41 %
android system: 8%
wi-fi: 7%
display: 2%

I've sent 2 texts and haven't done much else with it.

Battery left: 50% (32h 14 min remaining)

so.. if you don't use your phone it will last you almost 3 days.

Im not posting for help but for unbiased info to others.

My point was that you are in a statistics and reports thread, with a clearly defined method for posting useful statistics and reports.

I can mention that I am currently at 50 hours unplugged time with moderate usage and over 50% battery remaining. However, this does not help anyone until I add in details that show what programs I actually used, and the amounts in a clear and concise manner. (Which, obviously, would show that I haven't hardly used the phone at all, and the most intense thing I have done on it is open 1 picture message. )

Interesting. What's your Time Without a Signal? Though, I guess it's also having mobile data always on: but I am doing basically the same thing and getting almost double the lifespan:) I passed 2 days unplugged not long ago, and still had like 52% remaining. Only other thing I see immediately is I don't have weather updating, but I do have Facebook.

Yo, yeah I use Auto for screen brightness. Man, these OLED screens sip the battery huh? My previous LCD phone sucked power down like cheap whiskey. I would suggest that anyone who values their time not buy Robo Defense!:D I will be running both stock and 1700 again at work so better results to come..

Yea robo, once I start, I can't put the dang thing down! Look forward to more results

Hey Everyone,

Got another set of statswith the stock battery. Again, not so impressive as my nephew got a hold of Super KO Boxing 2 on my Incredible and was playing it for about 15 minutes! Look what happened when he did that!

UpTime: 11:35:25
AwakeTime: 3:57:48
Battery %: 14%
Wifi: Off
GPS: On (Used for about 10 minutes)
Bluetooth: Off
Always on Mobile data: On
Sync: Weather widget every 3 hrs and push on Exchange

Super KO Boxing 2 91%
cell standby 3%
android sys 2%
phone idle 2%
Dialer 2%

UnPlugged time: 11:27:22 (Moderate usage after gameplaying allowed it to last all day)

So, high quality games or ones with intense graphics and high responsiveness from the touch screen DESTROY the battery on this phone! It went from like 60% to about 45% in the 15 mins he was playing it! Yowza!! Yet, I want more high quality games on the Android platform!

Time to get to optimizing intense graphics and games Google!! :D

Hope this helps the data!

The iPhone itself doesn't claim too awfully much more than this, and those claims are usually well beyond reality

the iPhone 3Gs claims 10 hours of video playback time. that is nearly twice as good as I got with the stock DINC battery. this is easy to test yourself, see my signature thread.

and in my experience, the iPhone battery claims are accurate, I have tested them myself. you really think, given how ubiquitous those devices are, Apple could just flat out lie about something so easily tested by anyone?

hint: if you have an Ipod touch lying around, charge it up, and start to play music or video. it will die right around the claimed battery times, I have done this myself.

the problem comes when testing subjective things like "moderate" or "heavy" use b/c people are really bad at actually keeping track of things and defining usage in a common way.

edit: from the CNET review of the 1st gen Ipod touch:

Apple rates the iPod Touch's battery life at 22 hours for music playback and 5 hours for video. Our CNET labs found that the iPod Touch lasted an average of 23 hours for audio playback and 6 hours for video--which is better than expected, and more than adequate for a few in-flight movies.
another test I found of the 3rg gen touch:

During our testing, the new iPod touch ran a looping playlist of test 640x480 videos for 7 hours and 52 minutes before expiring, a two-hour boost over the prior version that put this model in the same league as last year’s iPhone 3G and the 120GB iPod classic for video playback—with Wi-Fi off. By comparison, when we ran an audio runtime test with Wi-Fi on—the way Apple measures it—the new touch ran for 30 hours and 20 minutes before expiring, just surpassing the company’s 30-hour promise. Oddly, we found that Apple has changed its performance estimate for the second-generation iPod touch to claim the same 30 hours. In any case, the device does match or outperform the company’s claims when used purely for media playback purposes, and when Wi-Fi was turned off, audio run time jumped by 2 hours and 4 minutes to 32 hours, 24 minutes.

Well, I'm not going to make it to 4 days, so I'm going to go ahead and stop now ( else I'de have to be staying up til like 8AM to keep an eye for when the battery does die. )

As I said though, this was without removing any features like Sync, wifi, etc...all I did was let it sit in standby the vast majority of the time. Still managed almost 4 hours of use, including a 23 min phone call ( It was mothers day, of course I called my mom! ) As of about 12 hours ago I could have made it, but my Time Without Signal took a climb from about 9% all the way to 14%, and my battery showed it clearly. I went from probably about 4 days 2 hours, down to 3 days and 22 hours ( and falling. )

That's amazing to me....I felt I could do this as well (as others), but did not have the time or patience to pull it off. Just goes to show how well the snapdragon clocks down (maybe even idle states) and HTC's/androids implementation of different states of sleep works. Thx for taking the time to do this....Back to fun with your phone! ;)
