Be glad you picked up your Optimus V before this week.

Dealing with Ebay and Paypal simply aren't worth it. Remember, you got to pay Ebay almost 11% of your final selling value, then you got to fork over another 3% to Paypal.......Now, it doesnt seem such a good deal.
(Of course, most ebayers just add those costs to the product, do it definately depends on how much one's willing to pay for one of these phones).
Heck, I've had no luck selling mine with two months of free service and three extra batteries for $165. (of course, NO PAYPAL).

People want to use Paypal, because it is secure, and also a safety net. There is more protection...I have spoken to many about it, and not using Paypal is not advised.

I was just replying to your comment about not being able to sell it because of Paypal...

Also, the price on Ebay has already trickled...the cheapest I have seen it is $200 plus shipping...

So sell it..Anyprice over $150 is pure profit.

Two days ago I called Radio Shack, they said "$149!" so I went down to see the phone. I knew they were out of stock, but I'd just found out about it.

Got there and it said $199. I was like, I just called! And of course that was the guy I was talking to and he was putting out the new prices right then.

If I'd called 20 minutes later I wouldn't have ever know how jacked I'm getting. They couldn't keep them on the shelves at $149 apparently, and like everyone else all phones are $199+ that I can find.

Really wanted to get two phones too, since this is for my wife and I gave up a cell years ago myself... it was an opportunity to get back, but at $100 more it's not so much.

Not sure what to do, will probably wait for a sale or look for a deal. Hopefully nobody buys them and it goes back down.

So, you'd essentially have to sell the phone for ~ $171 to make up for the fees.

$190+ shouldn't be a problem shortly for normal people that accept Paypal, which I'm assuming m-cman is. Also, you're forgetting that he said he got $20 GGc with those phones. We can continue to go in circles if you want but I'm done.

Exactly.

while I was in the city, I just stopped by Wal-Mart for some groceries.....Still $149 there.
Stopped by the local Radio Shack (franchise), and they were still $149.

So, It appears each store can dictate their own price.

My local Radio Shack and Wal-Mart have them for $149.99 still.

Actually only got the $20 GC on the one from Target. The rainchecks are from Best Buy at $129 + tax . I am thinking of buying one just to keep as insurance since I am liking the phone and am not having any of the problems that have been discussed here.

The data issue seems to have been addressed (for now). i'm only on a (1) T-1 fed tower here, and I was getting 1.2mbps down today.
Every once in a while it drops to 1xRTT, but only seems temporarily. could be due to signal strength decreasing (inside house).

I went everywhere locally today to try and find one for my wife. I checked several Sprint stores, Best Buys, Targets, and Radio Shacks, and they were all sold out, and they don't have a firm idea on when they will get more. A Sprint manager told me that there is a nationwide shortage because they oversold the product, and how it is in high demand due to the phone itself and especially when combined with VM plans.

Btw, pricing did vary at all of these stores, even in the same chain, either still showing $149 or the new $199 price.

While this is true, I tend to agree with Greg about paypal. I've been selling here and there on ebay for a couple of years and decided to stop. With the increasing fees from both ebay and paypal, bidders who never pay, and buyers who bitch about the delivery time even though I provide a confirmation # so they can track it-the headaches and costs aren't worth it anymore.

I'm very interested in seeing how American Express' Serve program works out and hopefully it will be a good alternative to paypal. Till then anything I have to sell (which isn't much these days) will end up on craigslist.

thanks Scott. EBAY is a hassle! EBAY *AND* PAYPAL together are more of a hassle! Paypal got to where they HELD my ebay payments for 21 days (just because ebay TOLD them to). i've actually never had any issues with PAYPAL by itself. But I think EBAY owns PAYPAL now.

Anyway, I turned my PAYPAL account back "ON" for the mean time in hopes of selling this phone.

I was banned by ebay and glad,i sold a PS3 for parts only to somebody, they contacted me and said they wanted a refund because unit did not work,I wrote in my post inop for parts only, no refunds,he filed a complaint against and won so he shipped the unit back to me missing parts so i filed a claim against him and ebay did nothing,so i refused to pay ebay, they turned it over to a collection agency who would call me everyday.i still refuse to pay and have filed claims against ebay with the BBB.i use Craigslist to sell and have no problems and it's free to post.

Hello all,
I live in Ohio and everyone is at 199.00. I called my mom in Tennessee around the Knoxville area and the wal mart there has them in stock and at 149.97. I guess it just depends on what area you live in. I am about to switch to VM in a month or so when my current contract ends. I either need to have her pick me one up now and hold it for me or hope that everyone else comes back down to 149.00 in a month or so.

That's why paypal and ebay are terrible now. They always, always, always, always side with the buyer which also happens to often times be a scammer if they are filing a claim.

Wal-Mart here went to $199.00 TODAY. Radio Shack, Target, and BestBuy are $199.00 as well.

Here's the scoop. Insider information tells me that Virgin Mobile went up on the COST of the phone, so in turn, the retailers are going UP on the phone to match the original profilt margin of ~ 35%. My sources store's cost went from 97 to 129, so therefore the cost soared to 199 (margin %age stayed the same).

So, retailers aren't raising the price to be greedy. They went up on their price because Virgin Mobile raised their cost (the price at which they sell it to the retailer)..

SO, BLAME VIRGIN MOBILE for the price increase, not the retailer.

Thanks for the scoop Greg. My mom is supposed to get to town on Friday to see if they are still 149.97 or if they have went up to the 199.99. My guess is that the phone will be 199.99 by Friday if it isn't already.

That's interesting. Yesterday, a store manager at Sprint told me that the $149 price was an introductory price that was going on thru April 16th. They were out of stock (as were basically all Sprint stores), but their price was $149 while another Sprint store 15 miles away had the price at $199, but also out of stock. I found one at a BB today for $199, bought it for the wife, but will not use it for a couple of weeks in case store inventories are restocked and I can get one at the $149 price and then return the other.

Once stores have raised the price to $199. that's probably the new perm. price (unless there are sales).

Like I said earlier, Virgin Mobile raised the COST on the phones to the retailers, so naturally, the retailers went to $199 because the phone cost them more to buy. average markup on the Optimus V is 35%.

So, unlikely, you'll see much lower than $199 any longer. Wal-Mart was the last of the $149's i'd seen, that then changed just today.

I'm going back to the AT&T Inspire 4G. Costco has them for $19, and I'm on a family plan line. ( I really really hate at&t, but I really like this phone, and planning running off wi-fi most of the time).

Went to Best Buy today to use my $129 raincheck. They were at $199. Went by Wal-Mart and they were at $199 also so it seems everyone is now at $199. I have one more raincheck. Thinking of using it but then I will have 3 Optimus V's. Wanted one for backup, may get the other one for resale. So far love the phone and my 3g is working fine. :)
