What ROM you running?
There are beats audio mods out there,

Beats is overrated IMHO. It's just an equalizer setting....it doesn't really do anything to the sound since the phone's hardware is the phone's hardware. Anything with DSP Manager (or whatever it's called, it's on all the AOSP roms and some Sense roms) works better for me anyway. I set it to moderate bass boost and the Rock preset.

Man I use power amp. for some reason the feedback in the market hasn't been great lately, but I love it. I love the eq, I love the interface, and I love that I can customize it, plus it has gesture support and can ddownload lyrics. Give the trial a run and I guarantee when it runs out you'll be buying it.

I had my ipod until this year.
But, I only used it when cutting the grass. Didn't want to ruin my EVO
I have Beats on my tablet and it is nice but DSP does the job as well.

I'll have to try to move my music to my evo to try out that preamp app.
I use my ipod also when doing yard work etc.

Play a song with no preamp or adjusted eq, or even use stock. Then apply preamp and one of the stock eq settings or your own. You'll notice the difference. It'll help to have a decent set of cans or buds as well. Saying that I got a $15 set of Panasonic buds and apart from being a bit loose decent enough once in!

Scrobbling I believe is when you play music the application will recommend music based on what you listen too. A good place to start with eq is to turn the bass and treble up and the mids down on the eq. The other things are things that will muddy up the sound if you get too extreme.
Oh and by the way the more you turn up the eq the lower you should have the preamp, I have blown a few headsets by pushing too much power in em.

I don't know about the Evo 4G, but the sound quality on my 3vo actually sounds so good to me using PowerAmp or ttpod that I've actually retired my Creative and Cowen players. Considering the equalizer included with PowerAmp about the only time that I'll use Beats is It has an exceptional Wolfson dac instead of the run of the mill Yamaha, very quiet and linear op-amp and for those times that I throw my inefficient and hard to drive Sennheisers it pairs up very well with a Fiio E6 without overdriving the amp. I was surprised at how good it sounds using headphone jack output instead of line level that I was used to with the Cowen. I actually sold it on eBay for about the price of the Evo and killed two birds with one stone by having a phone and a great pmp in one unit.
Heh, while most of that went over my head,
(words in bold), I surmise you now have a great phone with a great sound

I not sure if it works on gb roms but check out the acid music mod. That plus power amp is epic! It's baked in to the provision rom and the sounds are super!
