Root ***Before you take the impending Gingerbread OTA, PLEASE READ THIS***

Just making shore but if on froyo and rooted you just have to freeze a few apps to make update fail. I have Blockbuster and Madden in the deep freeze.

Your missing the point. Being able to sbf has always been our safeguard. If something goes wrong while rooting, romming your phone u could always sbf. If moto changed something preventing that on GB and u start messing with ur phone and something goes wrong.....u sir will have a brick.
not really, you would effectively have a BlackBerry... Too soon?

I pretty much think I'm gonna go for it. Here's my rationale; If it takes and runs well, I can report that info. If I can root it with GingerBreak, I can report that also. If it messes up my device, I will have already made a backup (on my desktop computer) of all my stuff and I will go directly to the Verizon store and tell them the update messed up my phone. One way or another, I think this will be fine.
...And I still have a Blackberry I can use in a SHTF situation....still too soon, trophy? lol

We'll find that out when the update is released by TBH, I don't think we will be able to to this (I hope we will be able to though :D), but it's all speculation until tomorrow.

unfortunately...i think our best hope is that MAYBE we will get a .596 SBF file...that is probably the best thing that could happen anyway...

i agree i think a full GB SBF will be the best option. ...Unless we have to flash a pre rooted zip...it sure would be nice if we could just load the .596 SBF then use something like Gbreak

Could we also assume if Moto had time to modify GB's code to get around Gingerbreak, TBH and/or P3 should be able to modify Gingerbreaks code again to get around Moto. Could I be wrong? It's quite possible they will just dump the Gingerbreak method in favor of something entirely new?

Either way, I'm not touching that OTA till it's rootable and can be safely SBF'ed back. To all noobs, if you want to flash roms, themes, and be able to root stay away from that ATO for the time being. Freeze your crapware to avoid getting the OTA if you are running completely stock.

P3Droid/TBH did not create Gingerbreak, so they won't be the ones modifyng the Gingerbreak code.

Yeah, I remembered that after I posted......lol.......but none the less, we are still playing the waiting game.
