Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

I can't remember if it's been asked before, but BestBuy can't do the annual upgrade deal for the primary line, correct?

I'm currently battling Verizon to change my upgrade date from 10/23/10 to the 15th.

Correct, we can't do the annual upgrades at Best Buy.

The checker came back and said I have to wait until 7/25/10 for the upgrade price.

I called Verizon and they said the same thing.

They also said I should wait until 7/25 to get an additional $100 discount.

If I wait until 7/25 would I get this additional discount from BB?

Thanks.

Hmm, I wonder if they are referring to the NE2 or just the regular upgrade?

On 7/25 you will get the phone for 199.99 at Best Buy.

Okay, here's another hypothetical question:

Let's assume I go to the Verizon store on Thursday and buy the Droid X with a 1-year contract. I use the phone for a couple of weeks and decide to bring in my wife and mother for a Family Plan. Can they purchase phones with a 2-year contract, or would they also have to buy at the 1-year contract price? Meaning, can the primary line be under a different term than the additional lines?

Ideally, I would buy my Droid X with a 1-year contract so I can upgrade in 10 months. My wife and mother, on the other hand, have no problem keeping their phones for the full 20 months until they are eligible for upgrading.

If that's possible, then let's say in 1 year I decide to go with another carrier. My contract would be expired but theirs would not. If I cancel, I would assume i would just have to pay the ETF for their lines, right? They will not have Smartphones, so the ETF should be lower.

Aookay, can BB employees order phones out of this first batch? Is this up to the store/store manager, or is it told to each store through corporate?

Yes, they would be able to do that. If you cancelled your line, you wouldn't have to cancel the other two, if that's what you mean.

But yes, if you were going to another carrier you would.

People and their upgrading every year

/signs 1 year contract

From what I understand, they were able to Preorder in the first wave of preorders, but not the second. Though, if there are limited supplies, we will generally fill the customer preorders before the employees. This is only if we get a memo for it, which as of this moment, we have not.

But until we get the go ahead from our District Manager, employees can't order new phones until the customers preorders are all done.

Yes, they can do that all for you in store if you like. As far as anything later, you can always come in, but unless you get the Black Tie Protection from us, you would have to go to Verizon to get the phone replaced after 30 days if there is any problems.

You can go to any Best Buy :) Really, we do much of the same things the carrier stores do, the only exception being specific account things we don't have access to. Like annual upgrades and billing.

Hope that helps!

Great to hear. Thanks for the help!

Quick question, how long will Best Buy hold the phone for preorder.

Because it's looking more unlikely that I will have enough money by tomorrow. Would they hold it until monday?

Is black tie better or worse than the verizon insurance ?

I personally think it's better, but it's different for each person. Some people will get more of a benefit out of it than others.

I'm not here to make that decision for you, you are :)

For me, I would rather use a backup phone for a few weeks while they fix it, then have to pay that deductable each time. Because paying extra money once your phone breaks, sucks.

For preorders, yes. I know we held some of the White preorders for a few days, but call and let them know of the situation anyways, just to make sure there is communication there :)

Plus, I'm sure we will get more in before monday as well ;)

Aookay, How many Droid X's did your store receive? I pre ordered during the first wave( I'm Number 7) and when I called my BB today the employee told me that they did not have any in stock yet.

5, but I expect more today. Same thing happened with the EVO (we got two shipments before launch).

Some stores might get them all on wednesday though, instead of the two, so I wouldn't be surprised if they said they had none.

Wow only 5? Crazy.

Hey Aookay, so I got my call yesterday and we set up an appointment. He brought up something that isn't too big of a deal but still kind of sucks. He said that the tax applied would be from the full retail price of the phone. So about 55 bucks tax added on! Is that normally standard?

Yeah, it's a state tax law. I know california and a few other states do it, unfortunately.

The worst part is having to tell customers this and not even being in control of it, you know? Though, it's always easy to blame the government :)
