Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

the latter, please.

i am eligible for the 1 year upgrade pricing that vzw offers to customers with a higher-end plan. the d-inc shows as $199 for me on their website currently.

can i expect the $199 price from BB if i preorder and agree to a 2 year ext.?

(thanks so much for falling on the grenade...)
yes. As long as it marked on your account (which the website says it is), then you use the upgrade in store with the new 2 year pricing :)

actually both local BBs looked up my account, confirmed they saw the early upgrade eligibility, but said that they could not offer the $199 price except at the normal upgrade interval (20mos for me). both quoted me $329 in my current 'early' state.

i then called vzw, raised hell, and got my upgrade date changed.

just called back the BB that has my preorder and asked them to re-check. shazam! they confirm that i am good to go on 7/15 @ $199 and am #2 on the preorder list...

dx here i come...

hello...

i have few questions

i called Verizon to make sure that im eligible to upgrade
-they said that my upgrade is on Nov but i still can get early upgrade now and it will cost little more

-so will BB mobile allows me to do early upgrade so i can get Droid X because i just pre ordered few days ago

-if they allows me to do early upgrade now and im planning to renewal my 2 years contract

lemme know thanks

I tried to buy an incredible at Best Buy this weekend, but couldn't because they wouldn't allow for early upgrades like verizon stores do. Big let down...

Oops missed previous post sorry

1st, thanks for starting this thread! Ok, on to my question:

This is a biggie: Does the Droid X have a Gorilla Glass screen?

Thanks in advance!

"Motorola also confirmed to us — via email — that The X uses the same Gorilla Glass as the original DROID"

Found it out for you, awesome!

When you say early upgrade, do you mean the smartphone early upgrade one, or one of the mailers you get? We can only do it if it shows us through the Verizon system, usually we can see if an account has been flagged for the early upgrade. The employee just has to know where to look :)

Hey Aookay, what do you have to say about how all the sites are now saying BB is no longer taking pre-orders? Did you hear any details on that at your store or even hear the same thing?
Is this at ALL Best Buy stores?

Also, I pre-ordered the X last week at BB and I didn't really get to ask this- I know the guy at my store said they call people who pre-ordered the day before, I assume the 14th, to confirm and to "schdeule an appointment". Can you explain this? I was the 8th person to pre-order at mine, and I figured you could go in any time to get the phone/activation. Is this not the case? I work until 5ish so I wouldn't be able to go until after that anyway.
Also, he mentioned something about it being shipped before that, and I said no I wanted to pick it up in-store. Do I have to worry about them shipping it to me instead without me wanting them to?
I really would rather go to the store and get it activated there.

Thanks!

What is gorilla glass and is it good or bad ?

I went into a goWireless store and they told me that I could do an early upgrade, however, it would cost me an extra $50 (which I am willing to pay, they appear to be eager to add new smartphone customers). The gentleman at Best Buy said that Best Buy's contract at verizon would only honor the "new every 2" date in the system and they didn't have a way to upgrade early without paying full list.

We can do the early upgrades, we got a memo on it, we just have to do it through a different system in store. That being said, your account has to be flagged for us to be able to do it. Maybe the employee didn't check both systems? Though if this is one of the mailers that you received, they usually don't flag the account and it has to be done through telesales or the corporate store, unfortunately.

yeah, i left best buy and they told me i couldn't upgrade. it seems that i'm eligible for a year upgrade or something like that. which means it's only honorable at verizon wireless. i'm done trying to do the preorder, i'm just going to wait it out till the 15th lol...

Yeah, I've been reading this along with the rest of you. I have not heard this at my store yet, but I can only go off what the co-workers I got a hold of today said. We might not of had a lot of preorders (we only had 3 or 4 last I checked) since I last checked, and maybe that is why. Unless I hear otherwise, it's not a Best Buy wide policy, but a store by store policy. I also talked to a few friends from other stores, and some places are still doing them.

So, it looks to be a Store by Store basis right now, as some are and some aren't.

The way preorders work, is we have a list with timestamps on it, to show the order in which they were received. We then call the list once we get them in, and allow for people to choose which time they want to come in at. We have had times where people come in earlier than their appointments, and I would recommend you call first to make sure that is okay. Most of the time we are booked the whole day, and if you come in early you may have to wait longer, but I would always call ahead. You can ask for any timeslot you wish :)

We have a thing called Instant-ship, and what it does is we do the upgrade, ring you up, and then the phone gets shipped to your house instead of us doing it in store. This is mostly used for when we are out of stock, or don't carry a color of a phone in store (mostly the latter, people are so picky about colors =P). We did this also for a few Evos, because we didn't have any in store but the warehouse did. You will not have to worry about them shipping it to you, as that is a completely different system that we use, plus we activate it on your account right then and there :)

Well if you activate it right there with no phone peole will have to wait til the next day to have a phone? so everything would be sent there this to me seems dumb to activate it before they have the phone some people rely on their phones and are unable to go a day without having a phone

We activate it on the account, meaning your upgrade gets used, but the new phone doesn't become active until you receive it at your house and hit *228 on the new phone. Sorry if I didn't clarify, activate is a very broad term :)

Oh yeah thanks for clarifying i was a little confused. But that sounds smart as long as they get the phone and dont have to wait for long backorders

Thanks for the reply!! Looks like I'll have to try to guess what time I want the appointment at, but I am not 100% sure when I can get there, since lunchtime is always at a different time.

Oh well, I'm sure it will work out fine! Thanks bud..

So if you're eligible for a phone upgrade (but your contract hasn't ended yet) you can't get the phone at Best Buy for $200?

Aookay

Quick question for ya, I pre order my Droid X a few days ago and was told I was #4 in line. Now when I pre order the phone and the only reason why I did, was because all 3 of the people working in the BB mobile area told me the phone I pre order was held for me.

The reason why I asked them if it was held for me was because I will be out of the country on launch day and will not return back to the states until July 22nd. I told them I would be in bright and early on the 23rd to get the phone. They made a note of this on my Droid X paper and told me yes, That phone will be held for me when I get back.

Is this true? I called back yesturday and a different person working back in the mobile are told me the same thing.

What's up man, thanks for answering all these questions.

Here is my situation. My mom has an upgrade on her phone that I am going to be using for my phone to get the X, and then she is going to take my phone that I currently have (the Eris). She currently has a "dumb" phone, so she is going to need to add Verizon's data package on her plan as well. I know this is all possible in the Verizon store, but is this possible in Best Buy?

Yes. As long as the employee told you they would do it, and you were both at an understanding it would be held till the 24th, you are good. We definitely honor our promises, and they dont have to hold it for you, but if they said they would, you're good. If you didn't talk to them, and they didn't make the note, it would be different .

Yes, we can do the alternate upgrade and then swap the hardware on the account/add the data package. It takes two swoops into our system to do, but not a hassle :)

I just went and pre-ordered my phone from Best Buy today at about 1pm Central time so I either just beat the cut off date, or they really haven't stopped pre-orders.

My question is this though: I went in, and they didn't check my account or anything (At least it didn't appear he did, although he had me fill out a paper that had my mobile number on it). I know I'm up for an upgrade because I was able to pre-order the Droid Incredible from Verizon Online without any problems regarding the early upgrade. My NE2 date was 11/21 though. Will I encounter any problems when I go in the store? Is there anything I can do with Verizon to make sure the 15th will go as smooth as possible?

Thanks for answering so many questions. It's great to see a retail employee go above and beyond.

Awesome. If I do it all at Best Buy, am I going to have to do the mail in rebate, or will it just be $100 less? Sorry if you have already answered this, but I didn't read through all 3 pages haha.
