Best DUAL SIM android phone?

I found this dual sim Samsung on the internet.
Samsung GT E 2652W Champ Dual- SIM
Any comments or tips please?

My teenage daughter has this phone. As AD2554 says, it is not Android and the memory is very limited. Not only does this restrict the number of contacts, but she has to keep on deleting all the saved messages every couple of days.

I don't particularly like the UI and, unlike an Android, it is difficult to change anything.

Guys,
It seems XT532 is now being sold in the UK through a UK seller on Ebay. I am sure Amazon and Expansys will follow soon.

Hoping people will update with their review comments. Initial feedback seems positive but it would be great if more people can comment. Specifically, please add what other handsets (Android) you have used in the past so that we know the basis for your comparison/review.

Many thanks

Please let us know ASAP when the android market works properly.

Does flash player work on this device? Navigation? How long to get a GPS fix?

The same goes for the XT532

RE: XT532

Can you get data down sim 2, even if it is only at GPRS or EDGE rates? If so is it easy to switch between the 2 SIMS for data?

Does skype video work with the front facing camera?

Is there any news about wether this phone will get ICS?

I doubt that Skype works with the front camera looking at the comments on the Market. There are not many devices that Skype for Android supports the front camera...

There is a chance that the phone might be eligible for ICS as Google is acquiring Motorola mobility...... but don't get your hopes high...... to be followed !!!

BUT there is a BIG problem. Android Market crashing always with this error: 'the process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly'. Also if I use browser. I have tried many versions of Android Market and some guides on Internet. Same error. So I can't get any applications from the Market. Because of that I think that the ZTE U960 is useless. There is some others functions who also crash.

Hi KimDK,

To bad that Android Market does not work - it is quite a important function on Android. I have a couple of questions:

- What other apps is crashing?
- Do you know if Gmail works as it should?
- Are you able to setup a Google account from Settings -> Accounts and Sync?

Hi
I booght it by Etotalk for US$466.00 all inclusive. The phone come with chinese language :-(. I'm danish ;-). I succeeded to change it to english after a while. The phone is very fast and smooth and SIM2 i working with 3G (europe).

I have also tried af factory reset. Same problems.

Manual I can install apps. whitout problems :-).

there is a program with the phone 'JOIN ME' who should could make contact with the phone but it can't see the phone and I can't se the phone's memory card in my computer with Windows 7 32 bit.

I send Etotalk an e-mail 3 days ago and they went back that Etotalk's engineers is working at the problem. I hope that something happend soon.

Anyway. I would make af video and put it on youtube later this week so everybody can se how fast it is etc.

Any question then ask me :-)

KimDK

Hi KimDK, here are my questions:

1. Are the messages for both SIMS managed in only one messaging app? What does it look like?

2. How fast is the data connection via 3G like? Is it comparable to the normal phone's data speed?

3. What are the complete hardware specs of the phone? Can you post some images of the hardware specs?

This are all my questions for now, hope you can give me an insightful response. I'm looking forward for your video review, if you can include these areas on the video then that would be great!

Thumbs up to you man!

A heads up.

I got my new XT532 from a friend from China. The phone does not have any Google applications. Not gmail, not market, nothing. You can't even add your Google account. Rooted the phone through some instructions I found on a Chinese forum, it rooted OK, installed market using root, and still can't loginin to my Google Account.

So a heads up, If you're ordering the phone, ask the seller about google apps.

The Galaxy Y Pro Duos and the Galaxy Y Duos. Both the phones have similar features such as compatibility with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz bands, a HSDPA modem, support for microSD card up to 32 GB, 832MHz processor, 3-megapixel camera and Samsung’s TouchWiz Android user interface. Both the phones run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. The only difference between the two phones seems to be the presence of a full touch screen on the Galaxy Y Duos and the absence of it on the Galaxy Y Pro Duos.

Hi djbuan

Q1: Yes both are managed by same app. But in the message it shows a little 1 or 2 so you can see with sim you have been used to sent or recieve a message.

Q2: I have just testing and the ZTE U960 dataspeed here where I am now is 5 MBit/s down and 2 MBit/s up. I do the same with a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it have 8 MBit/s down an 2 MBit/s (the same) up. I tested it many time and it looks like the Samsung S2 has a little better download speed.

Q3:I not quite sure about all this... But in 'task manager' it says System Total memory 362,36 MB. In 'storrage use' internal storage shows 990 MB. I come back with more.

KimDK

If i m not wrong all dual sim phones need to have 2 IMEI numbers for the two sim to be operating at the same time, that's just a pre-requisit for dual-sim anything, be it dual standby or dual active.

LG customer service answered this: "P698 phone is a dual sim single talk phone means if you have call on one sim & at the same time if call come on the other sim then phone shows not reachable."

Anyway, this is the first time I've heard the feature called dual sim dual talk. Actually it describes more precisely what we request from the dual sim phones: the expressions dual standby and dual active are often used incorrectly.

I have a question - What is the advantage of a dual SIM phone?
A dual sim phone needs more battery it will produce more radiation. Already the android phones have the issue of low battery life. Battery life will be very less for the deal sim phones. I would suggest to use a cheap secondary phone.

my XT532 from ebay Taiwan: GPS very fast and accurate, market is perfect. Flash as well (at least youtube is doing very well)

Been using this now for a few days.

Impressions:
The size is really good. The capactive screen works well.
Battery life is easily 1 and a half to 2 day with a good bit of usage (Charged it up yesterday morning and it now has 30 percent left at 10 o'clock tonight)

Comes with quite a few good apps installed (Tunein Radio, a few games etc, Facebook, Navigation, Google Maps)

The dual sim management works great and you can just select which sim to call and text on.

The drop down status menus has an easy access list for turning on wifi, data, flight mode etc.

Navigation/Maps works great.

The data connection works flawlessly, tested it now with a German, Dutch and Irish sim, picked up the settings from the SIM and connected fine, also handles crossing the German Border without problems, switching SIM for data also switches the APN, so I can easily swap between work mail and personal stuff.

It charges with Micro USB so you can use any charger (I use the one from my HTC Desire)

eBay, Facebook, Podkicker, Browser and the Google Market + Apps work fine.

Turning off Animations also increases the performance a good bit.

Overall its perfect for me, does the navigation, perfect for mail, listening to Podcasts in the Car, and the SMS Manager is really good, says what sim the message came on but keeps it all threaded to one contact.

The Camera is poor, no Flash, but to be honest I think all Phone cameras are crap compared to a standard Camera.

Two gripes I have.

No automatic dimming for the light level, although its easily adjustable through the drop down menu.

Overall I'm happy, 105 euros and I can carry my Work phone around and have a Data Only sim for WhatsAPP, Fring and SIP Calls (Which is also builtin)

Comes loaded with Android 2.3.5

Comes Preloaded with Android Sync Manager too:
Downloads - MobileAction

So I can sync my Phone over Wifi or connect to the VPN at home and sync remotely.

Hi KimDK, since you have got the ZTE U960, can I check with you when
you are using one sim to access internet online, making call to the other
sim will it get through or unreachable (or diverted to voice mail)?
Like to know is this smartphone really true dual sim dual active. Thanks.

slightly off topic but kind of related.

If your purpose of having a dual sim phone is to have easy roaming/use numbers from different countries, a good alternative to dual sim phone could be using Tru Phone as mobile operator.

Advantage:
- One sim card but multiple numbers from different countries, currently UK, US, Australia, with Hong Kong (and few others) supposed to go live this year. calls/text to all these numbers will reach you.
- Pay local rate in all these countries when u are roaming within, or calling between these countries.
- relatively cheap PAYG calling rate.

Disadvantages:
- No free minutes and no package at the moment (Calling or Data), only PAYG

Depends on your reason for having a dual sim phone, this could be a good alternative as Tru Phone sim will work in any unlocked phone. The lack of data package is a bit of a deal killer, thought their PAYG data rate is cheap compared with most operators.

Hi Cybermall

If i'm on Internet on sim 2 I can recieve call's at both Sim 1 and Sim 2.

did you try opera mobile 11.50?
works best for me

I tried, still doesn't work. Opera prompts me to install flash player, but then adobe says flash player is not available for my device. I also tried intalling flash player seperately, it installed ok but still doesn't display flash on the websites.

Dual Sim for incoming isn't the issue for me, I use pbxes.org to forward my Irish, UK, German and Dutch numbers to my Mobile number.

The numbers cost me nothing, except for the Dutch one which was 1 euro.

I can even use my own dialin to use my Cheap VOIP Plan, so basically make a Landline call to almost anywhere in the world for the price of a local Landline call from my mobile.

Mainly its becuase I carry a Work phone, hence want to have a Work Phone and Personal phone without having to carry two handsets around.

At the moment I use my Dutch SIM with the Albert Heijn prepaid internet package as it only occasionally use the internet from my phone with Whatsapp and Fring. For phonecalls I forward my Landline numbers to my German mobile number.

My circumstances are a little bit unusual in that I cross the border between Germany and the Netherlands.

Here's a question...

Is there any fundamental difference between the XT532 which comes from mainland China (without google apps) and the XT532 from Taiwan (with google apps)? I have assumed the only difference is the firmware.

Now that we know the XT532 can be rooted, wouldn't it be a relatively easy process to completely replace the restrictive firmware? Or is it more a question of availability of the firmware which includes google apps?
