Best DUAL SIM android phone?

Motorola likes to protect the bootloader and kernel.
Which means even if you root the phone you are still stuck with kernels signed by Motorola. You can replace the system and data partion but not the kernel or the bootloader. So the firmware stays restrictive.

Here's a question...

Is there any fundamental difference between the XT532 which comes from mainland China (without google apps) and the XT532 from Taiwan (with google apps)? I have assumed the only difference is the firmware.

Now that we know the XT532 can be rooted, wouldn't it be a relatively easy process to completely replace the restrictive firmware? Or is it more a question of availability of the firmware which includes google apps?

How is the experience with the speed of the dual sim phones?

If I compare a new phone like the Samsung Galaxy or the newest HTC in a phone shop, they are a lot more responsive than my T8888 with 600Mhz cpu.

Although the XT532 is running smoothly and fast in general (fast compared to my HD Mini converted to froyo) there seems to be a hick up every now and then with the back button. It sometimes seems to stop responding. So if you want to go back within the application in which this happends, you have to kill it. Or just wait, normally it gets back to normal wihtin a minute. But still anoying. Is there anyone out there with the same experience (or better, a solution)?
thx

Hi. I bought my xt532 from Yupitek just before Chinese New year and so far, it's great. Camera is good only for near distanced objects. The zoom funtion cant capture pictures clearly esp far away faces.... becomes blur... probably because we're talking digital zoom and not lens zoom.

The back button "problem" you described is real. I have the same thing.. notice all other 3 touch buttons are very sensitive except for the back button. The lack of response is more pronounced if you lay the phone on the desk and touch the back key with one finger. I have fiddled with it and discovered that the problem is minimised if you have another finger resting on the phone - front, side or back. Seems like a break in the loop of current flow. How does capacitive screens work? It appears to be related to our touch. Hold the phone on the left palm and touch the button, you have no problems at all.

BTW, I got most accessories through eBay looking under XT531. The shell is the same.

Just bought a XT532 while visiting HK, cost HKD $2260. This is the stock version for Asia ex mainland China, has full google apps onboard.
First impression: good travel phone. average look but quality is solid, screen resolution is not top notch.

Will post more detail review when I have the chance to use it more often.

Hi
Opdate ZTE-U960:
I become some new files (rom) from Etotalk. I updated my U960 with the new files and now the Android Marked works :-). Right now it seems like everything works perfekt :-).

I have been using the Lenovo P70 (ordered through Hotmid) for some time now. After flashing firmware version P70_S155_120109, ROOT and adding Google apps eveything is working fine. One minor problem remains: Whatsapp will not install :(

This seems to have something to do with the 'build.prop' file, replacing it with the buil.prop file from a Spice MI350 ROM does solve the whatsapp problem but causes lots of diffent ones (no reception on SIM2, camera not working etc.)

My verdict on the Lenovo P70: Comparing it with my previous HTC Desire the P70 is slow, has low resolution and it quite heavy and bulky. So not the perfect dual SIM I was hoping for.. I will sell it and might try the ZTE U960 or HDC 9100 S2

Hi Kingcedz,

Can you possibly confirm whether this phone is UMTS 850/2100 or 900/2100 MHz?

Also, can you PM me with store name and address (I assume they don't have an online store). I have some friends in HK who could pick this up for me, though I need to make sure it's got the correct specs.

Cheers

A heads up.

I got my new XT532 from a friend from China. The phone does not have any Google applications. Not gmail, not market, nothing. You can't even add your Google account. Rooted the phone through some instructions I found on a Chinese forum, it rooted OK, installed market using root, and still can't loginin to my Google Account.

So a heads up, If you're ordering the phone, ask the seller about google apps.

A point to bare in mind for anyone considering Android phones and tablets intended for and sold in Mainland China(PRC), is that non of them have Google. Some of them can have the Google Market and Google apps added by changing the ROM or rooting etc, but so often there are problems. Best to check forums etc, before ordering one.

I can confirm, the problems with the android market.

2 days ago I recieved my LG P698.
Overall I'm very pleased with the phone. It took me just a couple of minuts to get both sim's working properly. To make the G3 internet connection took me a little longer, but by trial and error I was able to manage.

The touch screen gives a good response and the battary life seems ok.
I've used it very intensively for 1 day and at the end of the day the battery still had 60% left...
The pre-installed flashplayer works, it's no problem to view items from youtube.

The only problem I encounter right now is that the Android Market is not working properly.
On my request the supplier already rooted the phone and installed the market a couple of app's..
I can open the market but as soon as I wanted to accept&download something from the market it displays the following message:
"Sorry, the application market has stopped unexpectedly. please try again"

Thanks KimDK for the info! I'm still hoping that you can upload a video review, i'm so anticipating that :)

Anyone knows a forum/topic dedicated to the new ZTE U960 ??
It is my natural choice, but there is a lack of information of it...
Thanks.

Dual sim smart phones have been popular in Asia. According to me, C7i Budget Touch Screen Dual Sim Mobile Phone is best, you can get all features which you want. I hope that it would be useful for you.

I have just bought a ZTE U960, I waited until someone confirmed market was working first, so thanks KimDK. Should arrive next week so I too will post a review as soon as it arrives.

If anyone else has one and has any tips it will be greatly appreciated! I am hoping it comes with market loaded already by Etotalk, but I have experience of rooting and loading new ROM's etc so not too worried.

I'm planning to get one too... If you're not too busy, can you post a video review? I'm looking forward for that...

Thanks!

kingcedz, do you know if stock rom for this version is available from somewhere? I thought I backed up everything before removing some apps but apparantly I forgot a few. So I want to flash the original ROM back on it.

Hi, do you have the whole stock rom or just the google apps file ?

Can you share them ?

I have two main problems:

#1 the sim meant to be used on the slot 1 (a 128k from vodafone Italy) doesn't work (anithyng else I tried works perfectly, including a 64k vodafone italy SIM), so I hope in an updated firmware to fix this bug.

#2 the recovery image I got from the old owner doesn't work too, so any experiment can be the last one: If the phone become stuck I can't even hard reset it

So any useful file will be really appreciated :)

Other than that that phone is great: I managed to root it and to install the gapps in a creative way (because the lack of a working recovery), anything I tried worked perfectly, the phone is fast, the display is amazing, BT works perfectly, WIFI is the N flavour, the battery last for a reasonable amount of time, wifi tethering works very well too, and the true dual radio is a very handy feature.

Too bad the guys from etotalk are really unhelpful, likely the worst Chinese vendors I've dealt with.

Given that is not so easy to get the ADB drivers installed (it should be happen automagically), especially on x64 windows, I believe that sharing the join me package is a good idea

ZTE Join Me

It's password protected:

PW is: zte_u780

The exe will install all the needed drivers (for both x86 or x64 windows versions) and the PC suite

Hi

Here can you download the new rom:
gapps-2.3-u960-signed.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

1. Rename the file to update.zip and put it on the sd-card.
2. Hold 'volume up' in and power up the phone. The phone will reboot in Recovery mode.
3. Select 'apply update from sdcard'. The U960 will update with new rom.

Etotalk has been kind to me so i don't understand why you all have problem with them.
