Root Best ROM for Moment?

The one thing I really want with root right now is to be able to keep my apps on the SD card and not on the minimal 256 MB internal memory. Is there a way to do this on the Moment? How?

I'm running rooted Radioactive 1.8.22

Is anyone having issues with the Voicemail? Mine keep disappearing, for some reason! (The whole app, apparently...and i did *not* delete Sprint's Visual Voicemail)
It works for awhile (days/weeks)...then suddenly, I get: "Could not launch the requested activity"
i have to go to the Dialer, and call my own number to get my Voicemail status and any messages.
Any ideas?

Ohh...and i'm running RA FroYo v22, also.

I've been running the latest radioactive rom for about a week and I have to say this rom isn't that great at all. I think I'll try Keebler and if that doesn't amaze me I'm going back to Ultimate Dream 5... My phone was damned near perfect when I was running that without ext2...

I tried zROM and it was okay, but things like settings for mail kept force closing, MomentFlash kept force closing.

I tried out Radioactive FroYo 1.8.22 and it seems to be working well, better than zROM. I can't vouch for the voicemail thing since my Moment is not active on my line currently.

ok..quik question..first time rooter here too...I recently rooted my phone (moment) when i rooted i used the Ultimate Dream 5.0 now..its fun..i like it..but i know there are more roms out there...my question is..how do i go about installing a different rom now that i have a rom installed...like do i have to back up everything again? does it erase everything? do i still have to flash my phone thru that sprint thing..or do i just save it to the SD and install it on safe mode or whichever screen that is..

It's recommend you flash back to a stock ROM before flashing a new custom ROM to clear things out. I use the http://sdx-downloads.com/stock-mod/..._1-forcsytos-recovery-3.1.1-Littlejth-1.5.tar recovery in between custom ROMs.

This will erase everything. So you should back things up. I use Astro File Manager to back up apps. You can also Titanium backup as well.

I see...so do i just put that file on my sd card and open it on safe mode? and load it to my phone from there? n then it erases everything n pretty much puts everything to stock..and i do use Astro for backing up..

Nope. You have to use the Samsung SW upgrade tool to flash the stock ROM. This process ensures the protected OS areas are written properly with the stock ROM.

The Stock ROM is a .tar file, whereas the custom ROMs are .zip files you can apply from the SD card.

You can only apply the .tar file from the SW upgrade tool. I understand that only with this process can the software properly be written to the Moment for stock recovery.

oh i get what u mean..pretty much like go back to stock to wipe it all out and have a flat layout of the new rom ....but uhm..is there a write-up somewhere to do this? I mean from changing from a rom to another rom..i rooted my phone following a stepby step guide on youtube... ..also what really is the best over all rom rightnow at the moment..

samaruf ... I've had the best luck with froyo 0pre3 and inxane 0.5.4 kernel. Is your GPS working with Google navigation? Mine works great with Sprint Navigation but Google navigation drops out after about a minute of use.

I actually don't use Google Navigation. I don't like the fact that I have to be in Data service area to get the app going. Instead I use CoPilot Live 8 which I bought for 5 bucks and so far it's holding up well. I have a 35 mile commute to work and it has the gps locked for the whole hour it takes to reach home or work.

it is almost funny to think that the 6 ish months it has been means that this thread is "out dated" but that's the way technology goes.
Especially phones.

I know the Froyo rom is no longer being supported. You can still get it, but it is as good as it is going to get and if there are any problems, we're on our own to figure it out.

Doesn't seem like many of the other popular roms have gotten much attention lately either.

I remember a little while ago, the meatkernel was the latest and greatest, fastest kernel you could get. Now it seems that it has been replaced with the Xsane kernel.

Personally, I have the latest version of the Froyo rom on my Moment.
My only complaints thus far is that it seems to have a hard time with playing Videos. Before the rom, (back when I was stock) I could get it to play pretty much everything. The only thing I had to worry about was data lock up. Now, data lock up doesn't happen, but a majority of videos (ones that I know used to play on my phone) just get stuck at the "loading video" screen and never get past that.

Anyone else have that experience? any good way to fix it?

GPS didn't get a huge improvement. Well, let me rephrase that. When it works, it locks on and is nice and fast. Problem is, it still only works, when it would have worked before. Still researching possible GPS fixes.
For those brave enough to open up their phone, it seems that a simple clean of the antenna wires works wonders. There isn't anything that keeps dirt from getting in through the speaker and mic "vents" and into the rest of the phone. A q-tip with a touch of alcohol seems to work wonders. Not done it personally, but it is on my to do list for the very near future.

More to the point.
What's the latest and greatest?

Or if it isn't the latest, then what is the greatest?

I get that each rom has its ups and downs, but given what is supported, its long term stability, the general impovement over stock, battery life and speed, there has to be something that has come out on top after this much time.
There are some roms that look really good, like the Amstel 2.0 rom, but it doesn't look like it has been updated for a really long time.
I could be missing some info, but it almost looks like the Froyo rom is the only one that is on the latest Dj07

is it too much to ask for all known and working, updated or not, rom list to be made in the OP, i thought since it was a sticky, id see a list but its hard to tell one from the other
