Root Best ROMs for the Eris...

Ok so when I try to download the Gscript.zip off of Megaupload it hangs on 'Unknown Upload' for about 3 mins, then it says complete, but it's only 19.54 kbs big, can that be possible? Is there a mirror or something?

I'm trying the download on my X...looks like its doing the same thing as what you described...(I'll update this post if the download finishes soon...)

Yeah, something is wack with this... I just downloaded to my phone and its only 20,351 bytes long and won't extract at all.

I've got this file on my PC at home, but don't have access to it here...

Maybe erisuser1 or doogald is still listening and can upload it to a new location (and/or double-check the download)???

...or you can try jcase's 1-click app if you don't want to wait...

If you do use that app, but sure to power off and back on where it says to reboot in step #3 (that's the step that will actually install Amon_RA's custom recovery).

Here is a copy of gscript.zip on my Dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/220420/gscript.zip

I'd still check the MD5, or at least try to extract to make sure that it's valid.

Thanks doogald!

Outlaw, by the way, I'm having better success using Opera Mini to download the file (it worked for me this way and the MD5 checksum verified correctly).

Sounds like you won't need this, but if you need me to, PM me with your email address and I'll Gmail it to you.

Cheers!

Ok I've tried downloading that zip several times and nothing doing. So I downloaded it to the desktop on my computer and it went just fine, now how do I push it onto my SD card on my phone?

Oh awesome, thanks a lot guys. Now all of a sudden there aren't any 'Thanks' buttons by your names, what's that about? Is there a 'thank' daily limit or something?

Outlaw,

That is a little strange about the 'thanks' button...not sure what is going on there... Mhotovec, are you out there?

To get the file from your desktop to the phone, connect them up together with your USB cable, pull down the notification shade from the top of the screen on your phone, and put it in "Mount as Disk Drive" mode (I think that's right, lol...don't have my Eris here at work ;)).

Then, you should be able to copy and paste (or drag and drop) from your PC (your phone's /sdcard will show up as a new disk drive) and copy it to the base /sdcard directory (I believe that is right, but check erisuser1's thread for confirmation).

After you've copied it over, do an "eject" or "safe eject" on your PC of the drive corresponding to your phone's SD card. You can also put your phone back to "charge only" mode in the notification pull-down.

You might want to double-check the MD5 sum of the gscript.zip, but I'm pretty sure that the extact operation will also verify that its an intact and good .zip too (at least Astro File Manager did when I extracted mine).

Good luck and cheers!

Just tried the download from the link provided in the lead-off post of the Dummies thread - worked fine.

3,915,189 bytes, MD5 checks out (92796a8c6e61e8f1ee36e315c0acae7d).

Maybe just a temporary problem?

Dont know if you have already chosen the rom but I use kaos v39 and I love it its fast, stable, and is the best rom ive used.

bobcat did you see theres a froshedyo vanilla update? :)

on the roms id have to agree with the froshedyo vanilla. ive used it and liked it pretty well. i used the latest tazz vanilla for a couple days and had no real complaints with it either.

just switched to CELB 4.3 to see how it goes. i tried 4.1 and it was smooth, but like to hang up every now and then- once badly enuff that i had to pull the battery.

tazz has some "sense familiarity" with looks some of the shortcuts, menus and widgets.but dont get me wrong, its NOT a sense based rom.

CELB and froshedyo vanilla are pure basic vanilla,i personally like these because im used to the way things look(also have a droid 1),especially the keyboard.

if you want a neat theme defiantely check out froshedyo v10

I'll check out the update. Is it just me or are the signatures not showing up on posts.
Scotty are you talking about the bat mod?

im not sure if youd have to wipe and reflash to get the benefits? or could you just flash overtop if what you have?

Here is what I do with CELB: I Nandroid backup and flash over the update. If something weird happens, then I will either go in and wipe or I will Nandroid restore what I had before.

Whatever; I have been running CELB as my main ROM since 2.9 and I have been able to flash over what I had every time. For vanilla FroShedYo, I suspect that the same would be true.

Oh, I do usually Dalvik wipe before I restart but I'm not sure it's necessary.

good info... i thot that was the case but wasnt sure.

edit:
after some when do you wipe the dalvik cache?

1)nand backup
2)wipe dalvik cache
3)flash from zip
4) reboot

-or-

1)nand backup
2)flash from zip
3)wipe dalvik cache
4)reboot

or is it 6 if 1 half dozen of the other? up to now i have only dalvik cache wiped after a data wipe when installing new roms. :)

You can do it either way. You just wipe the Dalvik cache before you restart after flashing the ROM. It may not be necessary, but in the odd case that a system file is updated without updating the timestamp or something it's possible that the wrong code could be run from cache, so it doesn't hurt.
