Root Best Root path?

EvoJake

Newbie
So I've spent a few hours reading and studying how to root the LTEVO.

Is the Regaw method the first and best step to be taken when starting this process?

I've read that it contacts HTC, but it uses 'fake' credentials so that the unlock is 'anonymous'? Is that correct?

If this thread is basically clutter and a mod/guide would rather delete it and just handle this through pm's I understand.

This is different than my OGEVO and I tend to over-analyze things.

TIA
Jake

When I rooted I did it like 15 minutes after it hit my hand. I did this method using windows :
How to Root/Unroot HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Windows/Mac/Linux][One-Click][<=1.22.651.1] - xda-developers

Then did the S-off Lazy Panda

Then Regaw's tool here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...mod-bootloader-customizer-xda-developers.html

made bootloader say S-on and everything as it came from the factory.

that was my way and it all happend in a matter of 10 minutes. That was my experience hope yours is even better :)

I just decided to stop being a wuss and dive in.

I only researched about 50 times as long as I needed to.

Did Regaw's then LazyPanda... no problems. Now rooted with s-off.

I need to learn twrp and find a good rom to flash!

Tomorrow is my 30th day of ownership, so I figured I need to go ahead and screw it up :D

Congratulations! :)

This is your next step - go to -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738462

Physical sd card = /sdcard2

If you don't have a physical sd card, keep that on your to-do list.

Following that, go to -

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...21-recovery-twrp-2-2-0-7-12-2012-teamwin.html

Then, boot into recovery. Make a nandroid backup and you'll be ready for anything. :)

Any of us can walk you through any steps above.

You are way over the hump now. :)

You seriously want the updates.

The bootloader lets you use fastboot if you ever need it and the new TWRP lets you rename your backups as you go, as well as much better internal /external sd card handling.

Updated with argedions link and twrp2 through goo manager (man thats nice).

Nanding next.

I would like to take advantage of the ota firmware updates, but obviously need to flash it instead. I saw a post by sgt slaughter (maybe it was Capn Throwback? now ive lost it) that applied the updates but did not update the bootloader. Is that what you would recommend next if I don't mind staying stock rooted for a while?

Think most would prefer the Mean ROM route I actually don't go the popular route cause well thats what everyone else does. I went with ViperBoy's Elite ROM it is a sweet ROM in my eyes anyways. Very Stable.

Agreed. Many enjoy flashing the latest and greatest but I like stability. I'm on a modified Charmeleon rom - the Viper and Charmeleon development teams have come together and are about to release the Venom4G rom. It will be coming any day, and I will likely run that myself for some time to come.

If you're looking for a ROM to try, I highly recommend MeanROM. It's very fast and super stable. Not to mention that the devs update it about every other day, sometimes multiple times in one day. :D A lot of other people are happy with Charmeleon ROM, it just wasn't the ROM for me.

Updated the stock rom to 1.22****

Wallet works :)
Everything else seems to be doing well also.

I can now breathe. I realized that while the phone is going through reboots while rooting, unlocking, changing hboot, and flashing roms I don't breathe.

Now I'm wondering how long I will be able to resist trying one of the new custom roms. ;)

Thanks again guys!

You've already been assimilated....resistence is futile. :D

Mean ROM is always a good go to rom. Clean ROM is also good. You've got nandroid capabilities now, make a backup and try them all!! :)
