BGR: GNEX users "Plagued" by reboots

If you're getting 10 reboots per day/week I might suggest seriously giving some thought to exchanging your device (assuming you are stock).

Factory reset might be a good first troubleshooting step too.

hth

Normally I would agree, but the fact that it kept happening in Maps/Navigation made me think it was just an odd bug I happened to find. The phone has been flawless outside of those two days.

Have never had a reboot issue, nor have six of my coworkers. Isn't BGR sort of pro-Apple and anti-Android anyway?

Were you doing anything outside of normal navigation/map use? I use the navigation quite a bit, so far without fault.

FWIW, Stock;unrooted, 4.0.2. Same with my wife's Gnex.

Verizon rooted. Whenever, I use the equalizer on the music app it reboots. Also after 3 or 4 days it freezes when I access setting through the notification bar. Plan on doing a factory reset to see if it fixes it.

Stock unrooted, 4.0.2 with Lite Flow and used Navagation without a reboot.

5-10 reboots a day? Really? cruzer why do you put up with that, take it back, as with ANYTHING that is ever made, some products are broken out of the box.

This is pretty sound logic - especially from a troubleshooting standpoint.

But I think then the next step (to see if this is the app or the device) would be to have other users describe their experiences with Navigation.

Basically, my thinking here is that Navigation, being a system app, may have some low level access to the hardware. Additionally it could be triggering a specific component that has gone bad (say some type of special location cache). If that were the case, then only users with a hardware problem would get a reset while using an app that triggers the specific piece of hardware where the problem is located.

If the problem was the app, then (probably) every/most GNex users would get the reset (at least at some point) from using the Navigation app.

I'll try and test this today as I haven't used Navigation much, but I have some errands to run in the car. Maybe I'll have Navigation tell me how to drive down the block :D

I've had a handful of reboots. Some while I'm using it, and one or two while it was sitting idle, and I just happened to glance at it and notice the boot animation. I wouldn't say I've been "plagued" by random reboots, though I would like to see a fix.

wouldn't be the first time bgr got caught stirring the pot. ...whilst clutching their holy all perfect fruit product.

I've had three "middle of the night" reboots. The only way I know is that the phone is in a very "fresh" state when I wake up in the morning. It has NEVER done it during the day or while I'm using it (unlike my original Droid). It is almost like it's intentional :)

Rooted, NO Lightflow app.

The first time I really needed to use navigation, it kept rebooting. In was un-usable. I then disabled nova launcher (went back to stock) and it worked fine for the rest of the trip (couple hours). Haven't used nav since...maybe I'll fire tomorrow and test.

But, yes...I believe something is wrong. I get a reboot every couple days under normal (no nav) use.

Stock os..no root..just the nova launcher.

Yup i get the reboot as well and this is my 3rd new nexus. I even done 3 factory resets nothing wont help does it about 2-3 times a day. But google is aware of it so hope update comes soon.

usually reboots are caused by overheat/bad RAM/software conflict including drivers/power supply for desktop/laptop/smarmtphone/tablet
memory overload due to multi tasking cause reboot as well.
also when cache become full, it slows down performance and it closes programs or reboot.

so keep limit background process (multitasking), and clear cache one a while..when things slows down..

I think I've had one random reboot since launch. I don't know of any android phone that hasn't random rebooted every once in awhile.

i have a 4.0.2 rooted and unlocked vzw galaxy nexus and it seems to reboot a few times at night while i am using the music app

The BGR article is not surprising. Apple likely pays for Jonathan's lavish lifestyle with all the nonsense he posts on BGR regarding the superiority of the iPhone over any Android phone. It would not surprise me if BGR saw one person complain of reboots and rolled with it to boost hits and take yet another shot at Android.
