Root [BIN] VV5 + CWM - Need testers

The Esteem has a totally different chipset then the Connect (1GHz single core / 1.2GHz Dual core. Flashing Esteem firmware to COnnect or vice versa would most likely be a brick.

I also tried the only AIO root kit I could find for the Esteem, no dice. Same errors you get with any other root kit I've tried with VV5....

Hey, well you know I that I put vv5 on my connect and it worked great so what's the deeleeo? Is there 2 different vv5's or what?

I just talked to z80cpu over the phone and he has a lawsuit against metro cause the connects no longer work (except for mine on zva) so if you wanna join in pm him. I'm going to join him in it.

No, there aren't 2 different VV5s. The VV(3/4/5) cab files sammyz posted in that thread are direct from LG, and are tagged MS840V. ***LG Esteem factory firmware is ZVB, ZVC and ZVD, so I don't know where z80 is getting this information from. Perhaps he could elaborate a bit more on this??

VV(3/4/5) I believe is the firmware for the MS840(V) model Connect, which is the VoLTE compatible model. This firmware was also showing up on old factory refurbished MS840 Connects some people were receiving from insurance claims. :D

And I don't think I can join in on that. Yes I bought one new, but my Connect's service has since been deactivated...

.... And think about this. MetroPCS has to pay LG for firmware updates, like from GB to ICS, or ICS to JB etc. I'm wondering what would cost more: Handing out a new LG Motion for every Connect traded back, or just upgrading current Connect owners to at LEAST ICS or JB?

Metro has upgraded firmware for only two Android phones: Huawei Ascend (Froyo to GB) and Samsung GS3 (ICS to JB), so I doubt they will offer an upgrade to us LOL. Our Connects are more than capable of running Jellybean and I'm sure LG has JB firmware that would work on it. But somebody has to pay them........ LOL I wish I could just buy the JB upgrade from LG. Even if it cost me $100, which I would gladly pay, it would have been cheaper than the Premia I just bought :D

Right,, when I got a refurbished one 2 months ago it came with vv3 and it was just the old ms840. I don't know where z80cpu is getting that info but I could not convince him that vv5 was for the connect... :-)

Well when I talked to z80cpu he got in touch with the corporate office for metropcs and they upgraded him to the Samsung SG3 (after they gave him the motion) but the SG3 can't be rooted or have cm10 put on it right? He also said that on the sg3 u can't move apps to the sd card? He also had to pay 50 bucks difference. I doubt I would have that kind of luck they would just stick me with the motion no matter how hard I complained. But is it true that there is no root for the SG3?

Um, there is root AND it's unlocked so you can run custom ROMs:

http://androidforums.com/metropcs-g...metropcs-galaxy-s3-all-things-root-guide.html

If z80 really got an S3 out of the deal, you should push harder for one. I wouldn't take a Motion in trade for a phone that they STILL sell for over $300. Hell, I'll reactivate my Connect and go lay a mushroom cloud in a corporate store when it acts up :D:D

Don't know if anyone has seen this but the app "superSU" has added a daemon mode for hard-to-root firmwares. Maybe we can use that?

Wow! What a SL of roms they have for it! Man, if I did manage to get one I'm gonna need your help on that SG3, too much stuff to choose from! Wow!

You need to look through more forums LOL... I don't think I could help with a GS3, looks like a totally different ballgame :D

And yeah, lots of goodies because it's a VERY popular phone, hence lots of developer attention!

So as you said in bold it was a update from 2.1 to 2.2.x just correcting you

So does anyone think this vv5 and root is gona happen? If not I am taking my phone in to a MPCS corp store and have a $hit storm with them.... :-P

Take it in. I've tried over 15 different root kits and nothing. I've read up on finding root exploits, including the newest LG phones, and somewhat understand how, but I can't waste hours and possibly days trying find it, not on Gingerbread LOL. I'll poke around some more but I can't promise anything

I have to talk to z80cpu first, no way am I swapping it for a motion.... :-(

Did u see this? The app "superSU" has added a daemon mode for hard-to-root firmwares!

On another note, what about taking the phone app and com.android.phone from vv5 (which works with mpcs new towers) and putting the app and whatever runs 4G into the vv3 firmware? Wouldn't that be easy? We know we can root vv3 but the 4G software in it doesn't work with the new towers, so we just replace the stuff that works from vv5 into vv3... Whata you think?

Who said vv5 qas for the esteem?

Also, does vv4/5 have an app called "Backup"?

The user z80cpu... He still swears that vv5 is for the esteem...

Don't know about vv4 or vv5, never used them. I had to go back to zva to be able to use my phone with root. I hate mpcs now that they merged with Tmobile. They screwed me big time! :-(

Has anyone tried rooting vv5 using the app "SuperSU"? The newest update says it can root hard-to-root FW's.... B-)
