Bionic Cancelled?

Im super sick of these games. Can't stand it. And there's no VZW phone worth sticking around for.

Where u thinkin bout goin? Don't even entertain at&t...terrible right now, maybe once the merger goes through with Tmo they'll have decent data again.

Agreed. I've been on Verizon for 11 years and their inability to release higher end phones in a timely manner in addition to their policy changes has me thinking.

I would maybe entertain Sprint, but in reality, Verizon is holding me hostage with their great 3G/4G networks here in Seattle.

new rumor of the day - galaxy 2 is going to have a flip out 50 inch lcd monitor. 1080p of course with built in wifi.

I don't know where some of you are getting that Atix has DDR memory. It has LPDDR2 type memory according to Motorola site. So there won't be meaningful memory speed different between Bionic and Atrix, leaving only RAM size to equation.

The only phone that has significantly better memory speed is LG Optimus 3D (Thrill on AT&T soon). It has dual channel memory bus unlike single channel memory bus in most other phones.

I don't care about the Networks if it's going to cost me that much more. And annoy me just as much.

Not really. I remember the rumors about it being delayed for several months (which it should have been) and VZW nor HTC said a peep. I only recall them saying anything about a week before actual release.

I'd have to side with rushmore on this one lucidot. The reason they didn't comment/ refute lauch date rumors is because, in their words "If they annouced a specific date and missed it, customers would be angry." That's been Verizon's M.O. for pretty much everything (device launches, software updates, etc.)

The difference here is the rumor is that the phone is not lauching AT ALL. Unless there is some truth to this rumor, they should be telling anyone who will listen that it is false. If they don't, they could potentially lose customers to other devices (which would hurt Motorola) or other carriers (which would hurt both Motorola & Verizon). That's the difference. So really the only reason to keep quiet is either 1. they are scrapping it, or 2. they are entertaining the idea of scrapping it.

P.S. Phonearena is reporting today:
UPDATE 4-15-2011: We recieved new information from our sources that Verizon has asked all their "testers" to return their Motorola Etna DROID BIONIC testing units, as the device will not be released.

Again, still only a rumor, but without Moto or Verizon debunking it, it doesn't look good.

Oy vey. I don't know what to make of this. Usually companies are on the ball squashing rumors or at least responding to concerns like this. All I know is I'm very unhappy with both Verizon and Motorola right now. Verizon constantly takes one step forward, two steps back when it comes to pleasing customers. However, I finally got my plan and bill revised to where I'd be stupid to leave.

So when's the SGS2 coming out? lol Dare I speak of that rumored Motorola phone?

Is it possible Moto is making a hardware upgrade, or has done so already and Verizon needs the old designed ones back?

I pretty much gave up on waiting....well sorta.

After hearing that it was canceled, i picked up a tbolt on a one year contract for 199$. I figured that if the bionic were to be announced in the next two weeks, i would return the tbolt and wait for it. Worst case, i got a pretty sweet phone for 199, unlimited 4g, and the option to upgrade in ten months. All in all, its a pretty big upgrade from the OG droid i had and that battery life is actually not bad at all. But we shall see.

I'm just waiting for Verizon to get their 4G coverage footprint closer to their 3G footprint, then I'll see what LTE phones are available and jump in..... 'til then, I'm just watching, waiting, and learning.....

Best of luck to all of us,

I currently have a Droid X, and as nice as the DX2 looks spec-wise, it is a carbon copy on the outside (almost). I hate looking at the same damn phone after a little over half a year, let alone 2 years. Then getting the same aesthetic phone with better specs? I'll pass... too boring. Waiting for Targa.

Well I'm new to smart phone and been waiting on the Bionic to take the plunge. I litterally was offered a free Atrix 4G and iPhone 4 (family plan) with a UVerse TV bundle today, but really don't want to deal with ATT, I mean at the ATT stpe with their "4G" the Atirx on web felt slow, TB at VZ flet lightning fast, but I also don't want my phone to live cable to the charger! If VZ can't get their heads out of their butts with the Bionic rumors I may take up ATT get the 2 free phones and then decide in 6 or 12 months to jump ship. ATT ETF is $325 minus $10 for each completed month, well after 6 months the phones are about a break even especially once I e-bay them.

Wow....this is crappy news!

True. Since the phone is most likely cancelled, I don't feel bad for going offtopic with some good news: Source: Samsung Will Not Lock Bootloaders Unless Google Requires It

HTC + Motorola = Locked Bootloaders
Samsung = Fully Modifiable, until Google forces them to lock it (hopefully never because Google likes Open-Sourced phones)

Sure, Moto+HTC make the best phones, but I'll take a slightly obsolete unlocked phone over a locked one any day.

Just my 2-cents.

I still have yet to see an official statement or article verifying this.

You probably wont since there was never an official statement of a release date for this phone..now we know why carriers don't like to announce phones too far in advance..gives them some wiggle room in case something happens..

Engadget is also reported that the Bionic is a gonner.

Nice phone in theory. Apparently the processor wasn't playing nice with the 4G LTE radio and stuff like that.

Thunderbolt ftw.

I can't believe this...has this ever happened before with such an anticipated device? I called a corporate store today to see what my options are since I had returned my Thunderbolt. After confirming that he too was hearing Bionic is being canceled, I was told that I can use my upgrade on TB...again. He did point out that the Samsung Charge (and he did call it Charge) might be released next week. I don't know about buying Samsung. I might give it a week after release and see what folks are saying.

But I'm very, very disappointed. I really wanted a Moto LTE.

This is true. By not refuting the news that has been covered prolifically in the media, Motorola and VZW are more than confirming the Bionic's demise.

This means a relatively long gap for a dual core with VZW, but supports their pushing mid level device for premium price strategy. The Bionic would have conflicted with this.

Considering the Atrix choked and the Xoom is limping along (100K sales is NOT good, no matter how folks want to spin it), Motorola could be close to cashing out of the mobile business. Android was 70% of their revenue growth before this year.

If folks recall, Motorola was going to cash out and the Droid 1 was their final shot of survival.

Engadget also is going off of the sites the OP posted. They are not adding any validity to the rumor. Did you read the report?
